This place closed January 31st and is permanently closed. Why are you still allowing reservations?
The restaurant closed (sold) back on 1/30/20 and neither the restaurant nor OpenTable notified me until 2 days prior to Valentine's Day, making it impossible to secure alternative plans. Fail!
The restaurant had permanently closed but open table sent out a reminder to me and did not notify me that it was closed.
Restaurant was closed, found out when we got there and the lights were out/doors closed.
This review is for a business lunch with 7 people. I usually love the vibe at Union Common, it’s a beautiful restaurant and I’ve had great experiences and dinner and brunch, however, lunch is a completely different story. I ordered the kale salad ($8) with shrimp ($8) and for $16 I received a very small bowl of kale with 3 smaller shrimp. Everyone at our business lunch was disappointed with either the portions or the quality. Aside from the salads, there aren’t really any healthy options on the lunch menu. The service was also not great as our server didn’t say more than a couple words the whole time and wasn’t very friendly.
You know how, when you go to a restaurant, you're hoping for a dazzling, memorable experience? We've all had a few. Unfortunately, Union Common did not deliver. Our experience was, by no means bad. We ordered on the less-expensive end of the menu for the most part. With what we experience, I'm glad we chose the lower end.
For appetizers, we had a cheese plate that was covered 80% with other stuff: bland olives, uninteresting nuts, mustard, and an ok jam. The cheese wedges were pretty skimpy for the price. The breads with them were good. We also ordered the crab hushpuppies that had no visible or otherwise discernible crab in them. They were overcooked in oil that tasted like it needed a change. The cheese plate is salvageable. The hushpuppies should be dropped from the menu.
One at the table ordered a salad course and chose the salt-roasted beets with mozzarella. The beets were fine, but when topped with a salty, bacony sauce, the salt content overwhelms. We asked for some vinegar that we added to the dish and that resolved the bulk of the problem. I'd order this dish again, WITH the vinegar.
Two of the three of us ordered shrimp dishes. Kudos to the restaurant for using fresh, head-on shrimp. The shrimp with red beans dish failed to excite. The kale salad with shrimp seemed to be better...but when you eat all the kale and leave a whole shrimp...what does that say about the shrimp? The other ordered the bison burger with blue cheese. The burger came overcooked. The blue cheese was indistinguishable. The rest of the construction of the burger was pretty good, but the stars of the show were M.I.A.
Overall, if this were a weekday neighborhood dinner, it's fine. If this is a special occasion, there are many, MANY better options in Nashville.
Our party of 7 enjoyed brunch and the food was very good. We especially liked the $3 mimosas! Our service was a little spotty but like every restaurant in Nashville, they are thinly staffed, not their fault but more the robust economy and the need for more workers all over town.
Sister and brother-in-law’s birthday
Music too loud
We were a party of 4 with two out of town guests. I had been to the restaurant numerous times and never had a problem. This time two guests ordered the special Sword Fish when it arrived with my steak and one of my guest's scallops, both sword fish orders were uncooked inside. Server was made aware and both meals taken back to the kitchen. The problem was not only that, but it took another (kidding not 20 additional minutes) for the meal to return correctly. Apparently they had to start from scratch. So, two of us finished our meals while the other two waited. It was unfortunate that we were not able to dine together. The Manager on duty was apologetic and did take the two meals off our bill. I also sent a personal contact to the restaurant thru open-table and did receive a personal phone call from the Manager. Overall I will be back, and give them the benefit of one of those bad days.
Super disappointed in our cold dinner. If it had been warm, it would have been good. It was an expensive New Year’s Eve for a disappointing dinner.
Server was good: kitchen was very behind and confused.
Fabulous food and service. Loved the deco feel and the music was perfect. Traditional old fashioned cocktail the best I've ever had
Great service. Our server was A+
The service, food, and ambiance were great. They have valet parking and nice wine selection.
Love this place. Always great food and service. Brought clients from LA here, and they loved it as well. I'll definitely be back.
Our waiter was outstanding!! As always, food and ambience was wonderful. Never a disappointment.
I have recommended Union Common to several of my friends and colleagues.
Outstanding experience all around.
Always a good choice when in Nashville; close to Vandy
Order the steak frites and lobster sliders!
Very below average food. The appetizer (pork belly) was average at best. The scallops were cooked well but lacked flavor and the sides were horrible. The sea bass was very “fishy” and the sides were burnt. Not good food for the money. Great location but overall our worst meal in Nashville.
Unfortunately along with a new menu, the restaurant this time just didn’t seem quite as good as it has been on our many visits in the past. Some the best and most popular appetizers are no longer available, and it’s not really a steakhouse format menu any longer. I understand there’s an attempt to focus on fewer items of higher ingredient quality, such as all prime beef (a great call), but although they do have a couple steaks on offer, the ribeye was overcooked, very much under-salted and pretty flavorless (in spite of an advertised “umami butter” the presence of which we couldn’t really detect). They do have the same wonderful fries, and although we didn’t order it this time, the burger with raclette is still on the menu. It didn’t appear as though they were offering the special drinks menu any longer (mixed at the table with explanation of the ingredients and drink inspiration, a very nice touch in the past). The service was really outstanding and the space is our favorite in Nashville, but unfortunately it just feels like the restaurant is not headed in the best direction from the food perspective. Will at least be back for lunch to see if that burger is still as good!
Great Service Great Food Will be back. Great Location
Try the bananas foster bread pudding! Had I know I would have ordered one for my meal and one for dessert
Two friends celebrating my birthday. We were disappointed!!! Not what we expected. We ordered the Caesar salad with fried oysters. The lettuce was chopped and dull. Salad dressing was lack luster, the oysters tasted like a ball of burnt cornmeal. We exchanged the salad for Rueben sandwiches and fries. The fries were excellent, but the sandwiches were disappointing. Charred bread with dull dressing and cheese.
I can not recommend this restaurant!
Service was terrible friend meal came out after we were done then the only thing the manager said was he would take friends meal off bill ...funny because he never touched it and sent it back as soon as waiter brought it out. I have eaten any lot of fine dining restaurants and never had such a bad experience!
Decided to sit at the bar. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Food was great. Loved the bourbon selection.
We were warmly greeted and served by a nice young man. The appetizers were good - especially the lobster sliders. The mains were good but not inspired. The gnocchi were not very fluffy but the filet was good. The duck fat fries was a generous helping (like, enough for 3) and were very good. All in all, good but a little pricey for what you get.
Had some one come up to me and multiple other tables asking for money. Not ideal.
Outstanding service, great food, beautiful atmosphere.
We needed a reprieve from the fun but busy streets around Broadway! We wanted an exceptional meal for our friends birthday. We were so happy with the ambiance, food and service! Perfect night! Great choice!
Fortunately for Union Common, we've had numerous other experiences that met or exceeded our expectations. This was not one of them. This was our first time coming for the weekend brunch menu. Most of us enjoyed our food, though several in our party ordered one of the omelettes and they seemed generally unimpressed. But my chief complaint would be the service we received that morning. The restaurant was fairly quiet, especially when we first arrived, and yet everything seemed to take forever. I'm all for a leisurely brunch, but it shouldn't take two hours. We love the menu at Union Common and we will be back, but our friends, for whom this was the first time at Union Common, likely have little reason to return.
Always love dinner at Union Common. T
Service was terrible. Don’t dine. Just enjoy a drink at the bar.
Great place for a business lunch
hidden gem in midtown brunch. great food, big menu, and not hectic like other spots. very relaxing
Everything was perfection. The staff was extremely friendly and our waitress was knowledgeable and wonderful. The atmosphere was great. The cocktails were delicious and the food ...oh the food. I can't say enough about the food. Next time I'm in Nashville I will definitely be back at Union Common!!
Great waitress. Knew when to serve & how to serve
I would absolutely recommend this spot for a cozy dinner for two or with friends. The atmosphere is wonderful and peaceful, food was fantastic, and the service was amazing! This place is above average in every way!! A must visit!
Lovely restaurant but food was very poor & service was none existing. If your going to charge steakhouse prices the food & level of service should match these prices.
A great place for a date night! We will be return.
