Service -under staffed and waiter was rude
- Host could not find our confirmed “open table” reservation.
- the dining area was in semi darkness (lights were on but on fade)
- plenty of staff around the place but an air of general disorganisation
- cappuccino very poorly made (no froth, it was like a latte)
- server was quite impatient with children.
- simple enough food order took an age to arrive and then there was a five minute delay between the first plate and last plate being served.
- server refused a nine year old’s request for a small caesar salad , when mother explained the child had had the caesar here before and the portion was way too big, the server replied the salad cannot be made smaller! (An enormous Caesar salad was served and half was wasted)
- all toast on every brunch dish was cold
- plates were cold
- poached eggs were on the cold side warm
- avocado was deeply chilled
- the avocado did not taste fresh
- I wasn’t asked if was enjoying my brunch
- on the positive side the location is terrific and despite the service delays and the poor food quality we all enjoyed each other’s company.

Family brunch was a poor experience. Food of 2 eggs Benedict, 1 royale, 1 pancakes, plus full Irish. Barely warm plus the rashers were fatty scraps, no back bacon. Totally overpriced and could not stay longer than required to eat and get out.
Really nice place but I booked well in advance for a table for lunch and we were sat by the main entrance and it was freezing every time the door opened which was annoying in the middle of winter. We all kept our coats on and to be honest it made us want to leave ASAP 😕. Great service, food and friendly staff though so it was just the cold aspect annoyed us.
It was twins birthday and staff were nice, no special effort made but we had a nice meal and nice service.
Menu a bit limited and very "eggy". Ambiance and decor overshaddow mediocre food. Lovely and spacious. Friendly staff.
Very relaxed dining experience. Prompt friendly service. Good wholesome food- not overly pretentious but very nice tasty meals.
Casual and it’s a feel good experience.
Our service was horrendous.
There was a party in the function room upstairs that was painfully loud.
The food was ok
The restaurant wasn't busy, which left the atmosphere a little awkward.
Service was good, our server being a lovely pleasant girl.
Food was just fair. Pasta with fish a little tasteless and whether I consider it value for money, no!!
All in all, the experience wouldn't have me running back. Sorry!!
Lovely spot for a cosy Sunday brunch with friends. The food is tasty and very reasonably priced. Servers are really friendly and attended to us really quickly when we wanted to order another round of coffees or cocktails. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with a mix of groups, couples, and young families.
Ordered the BBQ beef sandwich. Beef was so chewy I couldn't even bite through it. Left it on the plate & informed staff when they cleared up. No comment. No discount. Food not that good value in any case. Would be hesitant about going back.
The service keeps me coming back. Extremely attentive and aware. Never waiting long for someone to come over and take an order or check in. Pancakes are amazing too!
I have been to union cafe a number of times and always found the food lovely. It was really disappointing on Sunday. We had invited friends for lunch and a few of us were not satisfied. The goats cheese salad was particularly poor...iceberg lettuce cold baby corn and crumbled goats cheese on top.
It's a first so hopefully it was just a bad day!!
Very disappointing experience.
1 Our table was near the main door and we were frozen by a stiff breeze every time it opened.
2 We were staggered to hear there were no hamburgers available on the menu! No specials, or seafood we could understand, but running out of hamburgers on a Friday night is incredible.
3 The service was very slow.
4 The bill of €55 per head, even including the "gesture" of free coffees was expensive.
Even though the Union Cafe is located conveniently to where I live, I won't be rushing back and I will be telling others of our bad experience.
I came here with my brother and his family who live in Dubai. We had excellent, friendly service, very good food. Great kids menu and had a lovely night.
Disappointed. No decent gluten free options on the brunch menu. Asked for gluten free bread with salmon and poached egg which arrived on cold bread with no spread. Staff seemed to be unfamiliar with suitable gluten free foods thinking egg, milk and butter needed to be avoided also.
Its a pity as was such a nice location, friendly staff and will a little imagination for providing a few coeliac options would be a good place for people requiring a gluten free diet for medical reasons
Service amateur and slow.
Food mixed, the beef stew and mash was very good, but could have been hotter.
The hake was perfectly cooked, but the chips were awful. They appeared to be the seivings of a chip factory (mainly small end bits) which were then overcooked in oil that was none too fresh.
We would add that the staff were pleasant if, inexperienced and needed experienced management.
Overall ambience reasonable.
But hard to recommend.
Lovely, we were table of 6 with 3 children and enjoyed our Sunday brunch a lot. Kids had pancakes and French toast, nice choice to suit variety of tastes. Service was very good, friendly greeting at door and shown to table very quickly.
Had been for breakfast/brunch many times and enjoyed it but dinner was a disaster. The burgers were badly over cooked, chips underdone and the spaghetti dish tasted terrible and wasn’t as advertised. The staff were very attentive and really apologetic but the quality of food let them down
Lovely lunch in Union Cafe. We went for lunch but they don't seem to really have a proper lunch menu with only 2 sandwich options which is a shame so we ended up getting the chicken burger.
Lovely cafe with good service and tasty food! Really enjoyed brunch here! Loads of parking too.
Food was delicious (had a gorgeous Caesar salad), was lovely to be able to sit outside. Staff were lovely and friendly (but a tad forgetful when it came to our beverage order). Would definitely go back again!
Had lunch on Sunday with father and family. Dad in wheelchair and has level of dementia . he enjoyed it but the wait for food was quite long.
Our toddler pasta had arrived and been eaten before our food arrived. Dad didn't understand the delay and it was quite long.
Food was lovely but ordered Rosemary fries which arrived as normal fries.
Our server was lovely but possibly too busy,. She took my plate as i took last bit of food but both husband and dad were still eating. They finished and it was a good 15 mins before someone cleared their plates and brought desert menus. She seemed to be pulled in all directions .
In general lovely lunch .
Lovely spot for coffee but dinner was way overpriced. Service was good but food not up to standard for the prices and wouldn’t return.
I have been here for dinner but Brunch is a highlight for myself and my friends. Great setting, fab staff, amazing food, lots of parking. Everything is great. Last time I was here the waitress overheard us talk about how it was my friends birthday and she brought her out ice cream. Amazing.
Pleasant ambience, but inside too dark for daytime. Rather ‘speak-easy’ style. Service good. Food v disappointing for all 3of us. Soggy chips & too many on plate. Too much boring little gem lettuce on Caesar salad, with only bacon, no croutons or Parmesan. Chicken tough. I was hungry & ate mine except for some really unappetizing chips. Prices way up there with Avoca’s without the cachet, a poor imitation. ( we are v familiar with avoca & other nice casual eateries). Only playing distant catch-up. Staff unexpectedly concerned, willing to listen, make amends: plaudits there! Outdoor area nice, casual. Would drop in for coffee, but not for food.
Very enjoyable visit to the Union Cafe as a treat for Mum on Mother’s Day. Good food from a varied Brunch menu, very friendly service and great value. Will certainly be back and have already recommended to friends
We had family brunch here in March 2018. Great service, good atmosphere and excellent food with quality ingredients. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help with a special request. Would highly recommend.
We were given a lovely round table in an alcove that was perfect for our group! Thank you x
lovely food and desert was divine. Super helpful friendly staff, looking forward to a return visit.
Service was great food was good but the portions are enormous. Unless you’re super hungry the size of the salad was a little off putting
Lovely staff, great atmosphere, family friendly & super tasty food. Also side note great location beside Deer Park for a walk
lovely atmosphere, great staff very friendly - food was excellent and great value
This meal was at best OK. The seafood pasta was molten hot and overcooked. The chilli burger was ok but the avodaco burger was quite thin and overcooked. The price of €75 for two people with a bottle of wine per couple was not good value. I have spent more in other establishments and felt I got better value.
Excellent value for money. Great brunch options. Good coeliac options.
Lovely big open space with nice mix of alcoves and table sizes. Staff were the stand out - so happy, positive and genuinely interested in helping you.
Excellent brunch options. Really enjoyed our meal. Our guests were extremely impressed.
Nice atmosphere and decor. Decent brunch menu but could add few more options. We were 6 adults and 3 kids, the kids food arrived a long time before ours did so not ideal. Service was good and friendly. Busy cafe, particularly at the weekends, we booked ahead and got a good table.
lovely working lunch - one colleague who was pregnant wanted burger cooked a little bit more no issues at all apologies and a lovely fresh meal 5 minutes later
