I invited a party of five to Union Cafe.
The decor is lovely.
Drinks were nice- coffees, teas and Bellinis.

However the food was a big let down. It was underwhelming and very disappointing.
It was served lacking any finesse and even the taste was lacking. I ordered the Caesar salad which to be honest was anything but a salad! I was offered chicken with my salad and received 1/2 a chicken! It was on the menu (I hadn’t checked) but would never consider 1/2 a chicken to be appropriate to serve with a salad- I struggled to find the leaves!

Other items ordered were scones (as we were still hungry) but they’d run out and a pain au chocolate which turned out to be stale. It was 3.95 which is extortionate!

Will not be recommending or returning.

The ambiance and decor is lovely and staff are very friendly, but the food can do with some improvement. French toast was not cooked properly, the rosemary fries barely have the taste of rosemary and the chicken wings are the worst I have ever tasted; dissapointed on that aspect as it is pretty difficult to make a balls of chicken wings. I think the chefs need to taste the food they are dishing out before plating up or they need to taste what their competitors are offering alike. Small changes to attention to detail, could really make a big culinary difference to a lack lustre eating experience. It is a shame how difficult it is to get a showing stopping brunch experience in Dublin.

We were a bit late, 10 mins but I'd rang ahead to let them know. Still sent to bar to wait along with other diners. Not sure if that's policy ? Anyway, starter came out fine but approx 40 mins wait for mains ( 2 burgers) . The presentation was terrible and most unseasoned burger I've ever had. It was my husband's birthday but tbh we didn't hang around for desert. White Wine was warm too....overall a big let down. Sorry won't be back.

Taste of food and presentation very poor. Hake Tempura was soft and soggy. No flavor. Eggs were the smallest I’ve ever seen. Overall very disappointing.

Service and staff were excellent. I would certainly recommend this Restaurant but it was a cold night on Friday - we had a lovely seat by the window but freezing cold - we had to move to sit at the Bar when we finished our meal - i was also a bit disappointed with my Caesar Salad - the chicken was super and the portion was great but the salad was a bit lacking

I will be back and as i said i would recommend this restaurant. The staff were wonderful.

I was kind of disappointed with our meal and service. On arrival we were shown to our seats but never told the specials of the day unlike the table that were seated next to us who came at a later stage. Although the restaurant wasn’t very busy they weren’t very attentive. We had to keep asking for water and some tables were left with the jug. We ordered burgers and my sisters burger was raw in the middle so she sent it back. It then came out over done and dry. All burgers were over cooked on the outside and mine and my sons burger was quite pink on the inside but not as bad as my sisters. We also ordered a pizza to go and they never told us it was ready so it sat on the counter for awhile. Although the staff were very nice their attention to detail was very poor.

Went for breakfast. Nice atmosphere. Lovely decor. Food overpriced. Friendly staff but slow. Nice granola but more yoghurt than granola. Fry came with burnt rashers and hard potatoes with one slice of toast. Good portion sizes. Child’s sausage & soldiers came with hard unbuttered sourdough toast soldiers (too hard for a child to chew)
Overall, nice experience as restaurant is lovely but food needs to be improved as they are charging high prices for many items on the menu.

I love Union Cafe - But the food is SO bland - I had a burger -It was very disappointing . My mother had the breakfast and the portion was piled high on her plate with no real care given. It's seems to be the same in all your venues. The prices are very high for what you get. I really love the actual restaurant but the food needs to improve for me to go back. The service & staff are fantastic.

Overall we did enjoy our meal. However, the service was very slow. Starters arrived quick enough, but our girls had both ordered garlic bread but only one arrived and it took a good 15 minutes before the second came and the rest of our group were finished there starters by this time. Plus the portion size of the garlic bread is too big for one person, should state on menu it’s for 2 people. We waited a good 30 minutes before our main courses came out. The main courses were good however my husband felt there could have been more blue cheese on his burger. Our girls didn’t like the pasta Alfredo at all and left most of it. Said it had no flavor.

We had a brilliant brunch at this American style diner. The staff were very knowledgeable about food content and allergies and put our mind at rest. The coffee was excellent and the presentation of all food careful. Our waiter had a great attitude but gave us the space for a private conversation.

We went here last week with my husband and daughter who is 8yrs old. My daughter loved it and the dessert of course was her favourite. The service was excellent however I was disappointed by the food. It's slightly above average in price but the food does not reflect the cost. I had mozzarella fritters to start. They were OK, overdone and way too big for a starter. My husband had the chicken wings which he said we're nice, same as most chicken wings from a pub. For my main course I ordered the pasta Alfredo with chicken which was €19(bit steep for a pasta) but what arrived was a chicken marinara. I explained to the waiter it's not what I ordered so he went and reordered the Alfredo. He was apologetic and mistakes happen. But my family was finished their meal by the time I got my pasta which ended up being bland and lacked taste. It was like someone just threw cream over it. So I didn't finish it. They still however charged us for it which I think under the circumstances they should of removed it from the bill. My husband ordered the ragu pizza which he said was OK not great. So overall not sure it warrants another chance in my book. I don't mind paying more money for good food but unfortunately it did not live up to its standards.

This has been my 4th time in this restaurant and unfortunately it is going to be my last. Despite my efforts to really like this place, it's just not up to par.
The service is ok but the food unfortunately is no even close to ok.
On my last visit, we had the kids pasta which was completely overcooked.
2 Bacon and egg, one with scrambled and one with poached eggs. The scrambled eggs were overdone and the potatoes on one of the dishes were underdone. The bacon was rock hard and the coffee I ordered was watery. I did receive a replacement coffee which I wasn't charged for.
The service is good and it's a crying shame the food isn't, as Churchtown really could do with a restaurant that serves decent brunch and dinner.

The food is served very quickly and is good quality. My only complaint was the wait for teas and coffees which were ordered with our brunch but did not arrive until after the food- due to backlog !

Went to Union Cafe on a Sunday night. Restaurant was busy without being packed. The service was excellent, very friendly and efficient. Food was good, as you might expect from the menu, but well prepared and presented. Ambiance was good, nice setting, reasonably quiet so good for catching up with people. Food was served reasonably quickly but there was no rush to leave the table. Overall very good experience, good value for money.

Food & service ok to good. We had worst table in the house, lit by the glare of the service light in the kitchen, immediately beside the entrance to the bathroom. Of course one table has to be the closest to the bathroom, but surely there’s a better place to store a dustpan and brush (right next to one of our seats, “behind” the curtain on the bathroom door), and the credit card machine (on the back of the seat, behind the head of whoever takes the couch seat). Our meal was constantly disturbed by these items being reached for and replaced by staff without so much as an apology.
The other thing that struck me was the cleanliness of the place. The rough wood walls were dusty and cobwebbed. The floor tiles were filthy (a victim of a trendy but impractical decor choice... pale pink & white maybe not a good choice for a high-traffic area). The cleaning record sheet showed the bathroom had not been cleaned even once on the day we visited, for an evening meal. The bright light from the service hatch illuminated a large dusty spider web over the service area too. Not ideal to think of one’s meal coming from underneath.
Service was pretty good, until we were waiting to pay, when we were left for 10 minutes. We ended up giving a more generous tip than deserved as we were under tome pressure to get to cinema. The food (we both had a burger) was tasty, with a generous portion of fries.
We would return but would not stay if offered the same table again. The owner should perhaps consider removing this table entirely if a cleaning equipment/ credit card machine storage area is required, or provide some sort of screening from the glaring light and find somewhere else to store those items.

3 out of 4 of us ordered the pancake stack. The berry compote that cane with it was very bitter & would be better if served on the side & not on top of the pancakes. All 3 of us pushed them to the side as too bitter.

There was one bar man rushed off his feet trying to do the orders for all of the tables. We got a free round of drinks only when one of our guests suggested this due to the very long wait.
