Union 30 has the potential to be outstanding. It is beautiful. The surround bar is lovely. Perfect for a night out with good friends and conversation. The food prices were extraordinarily high for the quality of food. Someone take that salt shaker away from the chef!
New chef, new menu and probably a few more wait staff would bring this gem to life.
I had not been downtown in St Louis for several months and this was my first visit to Union 30. I had a business lunch with a friend and colleague an thought to try this restaurant which is located in the hotel. I really enjoyed my sandwich (smoked turkey club) and my colleague had their Caesar salad with shrimp. I very much enjoyed my lunch and I thought the service was excellent. Although it is adjacent to the hotel lobby, the restaurant is quiet for a business conversation. I would highly recommend Union 30 for lunch and I am thinking that I might try it it some day soon for dinner.
What lovely staff. Dinner and drinks were great! Beautiful ambiance too :)
I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the steak and service. For starters, we waited over 30 minutes for a soup and salad at 6pm. The French onion soup was okay. My wedge salad was good. We ordered medium rare and medium steaks which both appeared to be prepared medium well. When discussing the issues with the steaks, the server chose to argue about the steak temperature instead of fixing the steaks. He finally agreed to have the steaks redone. The server told us that NY strips were no longer available when he delivered 8oz filets, which now were both medium rare. My son said his medium rare filet was very good. The bill amount was adjusted to the price of the filet but still listed NY strip. Huh?
$150+ for a meal that I could not finish and was not adjusted for the experience. Ridiculous. Then on top of that, the server appeared to be discussing the problems of our meal with other customers. Inconceivable. My son who works in the hospitality industry insisted on leaving a tip because the server appeared to be working alone for most of the 2 1/2 hours of our time there. Yep thank goodness we were not in a hurry.
I'm from Atlanta. This was the first night of a visit with my son who is a student at Mizzou...not the best way to start.
We enjoyed our Easter Brunch at Union 30. Beautiful hotel. Our server, Ellis, was awesome and the food was great!
Great small restaurant in a beautiful old hotel. Great location and food we delicious. Service was slow but our server was covering two different areas. Drinks were great!
We made a last minute reservation and it was wonderful!!!
Wrong food came out. Very slow. Over priced
It was St. Patricks Day special was corned beef -- could not eat it...tough and gristle. but everything else was good. Should have to been charged for it. Husband's dish was very good....
Reservation online but they had the wrong hours, tried to call to double check but no one answered but hours listed in VM also wrong. Made a 8:45 reservation and got there on time only to be told they will close at 9. Food was very mediocre... bartender/server very argumentative... we told him what happened and they need to fix their listed hours and he never really apologized for any of this, said he took off 10% at the end
We had all the intention to go back and try the rooms but will not due to this poor experience
Pre-wedding family brunch
This is our 3rd time there...they are chronically understaffed - even before Covid. The food is good but the service is sparse.
We would recommend going for a drink...
The acoustics are poor - it’s REALLY loud...
Great food, a bit of a wait. Great service!!
They excepted a reservation on a night when they had one server for the whole room. The server went to a table of 15 that arrived after we did to take their order before they took ours. We got up and left. Don't overpromise by taking a reservation when you don't have staff.
Great service and delicious food! We would definitely eat there again.
Made My Valentines Day Perfect Thank you
Made a reservation and didn’t get seated until 45 minutes after the time of my reservation. The tables were not safety socially distanced, dishes were not clean and they ran out of several dishes on the menu.
It was a great place to have breakfast in downtown !
Lovely quiet place. Was not rushed.
The staff was very friendly when we walked in, everyone had masks on.
The drinks were great and the food was absolutely delicious!
The decor is beautiful and just about everywhere you looked was a picture worthy shot.
The food was great, The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant was very much into a New Year celebration. The only problem We had was that the serves was very slow. It looked like the restaurant was not properly staffed for a large group. That took away from a great night.
The Hotel St Louis and the Union 30 restaurant are both magnificent. What a great restoration.
The specialty cocktails and food were outstanding! Fantastic ambiance and great service.
My husband ordered a prime rib med rare and it came over done.
We had to ask for sheets for the sofa bed, they should have been in room already, we had 2 adults and 2 kids.
Website just says $50 pet fee, nothing about $50 each.
There was hair on bathroom floor.
Staff at front desk was very helpful.
Everything was wonderful as always
Full Disclosure: My visit was during f*ckjng-but-understandable COVID limitations:
I based my reservation on the menu posted on Union 30’s OT page, lots of really interesting, not-so-ubiquitous items that we were looking forward to getting into. Unfortunately, the posted menu was not the paired down menu optimized for low volume business. This was my only disappointment.
With that stated, the steak I ordered was much better than I expected given the sullen state of affairs and our server could not have been more eager to ensure we had a great meal. I look forward to coming back when the world is right again and giving the full creatively of the menu the once over.
Waited 30 minutes for our drinks and then another 30 minutes went by when our waiter come by with ALL of our food. Appetizers, salad, soup, and entrees. Yes, he brought ALL of the food we ordered at the same time.
Really enjoyed the salmon wish pesto sauce. Service was excellent as usual.
Excellent service! Food is really good! I would definitely go back!
Excellent food, service needs to improve to match the good quality / food in a nice area to eat.
The restaurant/hotel is beautiful. Service was awesome. The scallops and prime rib were delicious. I wouldn’t recommend the Hill Chicken. It was bland.
Ordered bbq med rare and came well done. Menu listed on open table is not up to date. Food very average in general and drinks seemed watered down.
Service was not good - we felt like we were putting the server out when we asked for additional items. Salad had brown lettuce. Water glasses went unfilled.
John and Shelby did a roundabout way of smoothing over a terrible menu description from what was served! Menu stated prosciutto with the Caesar salad but bacon bits were served. Menu stated cooked to ordered filet but was served loose tasteless sous-vide beef filet while the menu misspelled the type of beef! I was comped a $100 bottle of wine, given $50 off that total, and thanked wholeheartedly for speaking up! I know education is expensive sometimes, but seriously, wake up or find a new way to contribute and provide!
Valentines dinner was very good and reasonably priced gourmet dinner.
Good Afternoon Joe, Thank you for your feedback and so glad that you enjoyed your Valentines Dinner with us at Union 30. Chef Birk
Let me preface this review. I don't know how the food or ambiance is because we didn't actually get a chance to eat here. We left after being ignored for more than 20 minutes after being seated.
We came the day after Valentine's Day at 6:30 in the evening. There were only a handful of tables occupied. We were informed at the host stand that they were doing a Valentine's prix fix menu, even though it wasn't Valentine's day, which we were not made aware of when we made the reservation. The only other option was the late nite bar-snack menu.
Despite not being interested in the prix fix, we decided since we were there, we'd go ahead and try the bar menu. We were seated and waited 15 minutes before a server even addressed us (despite us sitting at a table right by the bar, and the person I can only assume was the manager was just steps from us). When a server did speak to us, she said she wasn't sure who our server was supposed to be, but she would take our drink orders. We then had to ask for drink menus, because we had none. She left after getting us the menu and we waited another 10 minutes, all the while listening to the manager-ish person discuss with the wait staff who should have the next table.
We finally left, since no one had come back to our table to take our drink order or ask about food. This is not a cheap restaurant. It's in a boutique hotel and is priced accordingly. It should have service that matches its price point and setting. We'd really been looking forward to trying Union 30, but after this, we are unlikely to return.
We were initially seated in area where 15 degree air blew directly on us when the door opened. Our waitress was inexperienced and unfamiliar with the menu. Her supervisor, restaurant director and chef were all great in rectifying a very unsatisfactory situation where a pre-fixe menu did not fully accommodate a vegan. In a 3-course menu, only the entree options included a a vegan entree. To mollify me, they offered the “late-night” menu on which I found a suitable salad minus the blue cheese. (They served it with the cheese and I sent it back). I opted for the offered ”appetizers” (poached pear) as my dessert minus the cheese. That came out as requested. The pre-fixe menu was advertised at $100 / couple. They charged us $123! Our waitress did not know why she was doing. I’ll go again but will request an experienced server.
Union 30's team was accommodating to kids! The food was excellent!
Super fantastic so glad that you all enjoyed everything. Chef Birk
The food has been hit and miss with me. I've gone here several times. The staff during dinner offered water about 6-7 times and kept interrupting our dinner, which was a business dinner. One of the meals also came out wrong, and the correct meal for that person didn't come out until after everyone else had finished. I order a bourbon, and that brand was out of stock (after going and checking). We ordered wine, and the bottled we ordered, was also out of stock. I hope it was just a bad night for them.
