Very Good food and setting. Nice amount of food just high cost for large salad with chicken
Enjoyed our service and good food. Friendliness of staff great. Enjoyed having a chance to visit with Matt Bivens a bit. Nice experience.
Food was great! Service was superb! We had a date night and the atmosphere was perfect:
The concept of local Food was so appealing and the food when we got it was quite good. However the service was totally lackluster after such a positive buildup. We were greeted warmly when we were seated and noted that we didn’t have enough water glasses and flatware for the entire party. “I take care of it right away.” We had to ask 3 more times for enough water glasses and flatware. The menu was innovative and we were excited to taste our meals. However only 4 of the 5 meals arrived, and we were still waiting for flatware. Then we waited for the last meal, and we waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, one of us spotted our waiter and got up and went over to tell him that one of the orders didn’t come out. You know how no one wants to eat until all the meals are delivered, meanwhile everything is getting cold and the person without dinner feels awkward and telling everyone to go ahead, which no one feels comfortable doing. So our waiter, says the kitchen messed up and they’re “whipping up” the meal right now. Eventually it comes but our waiter isn’t remorseful, doesn’t offer tea refills and ignores us. I so wanted to rate this restaurant higher but until the service matches the flavors the kitchen produces, it only deserves a 2 star.
Food was very good, but very expensive. No side, bread or salad with meal. Had to wait 5 minutes to be seated even though restaurant not busy. Waitress was excellent.
Good food and great atmosphere
Atmosphere is great, although a little loud. The scallops dish is light, fresh, and awesome. One scallop was gritty from not being cleaned well, but the dish tasted great. The pork tenderloin sticks habe great potential. They had very very little flavor. The sauces that it came with were good and helped a bit. Our server was friendly. I had an email offer for $25 off of $50 or over food purchase. I showed the server my email offer on my phone and he had to take my phone to the back to show hia supervisor which was weird, but the discount was applied and all was well.
Union 29 looked like a fun place and the menu online looked yummy. Although the restaurant hasn't been at this location for very long, some of the menu items had changed already and one of the things my husband was interested in wasn't on the menu anymore. My husband, daughter, and I all really liked our food though. Service was not very good, however. Our server was not very friendly - just kind of seemed like she was only going to put in the energy she had to, but not be overly friendly or helpful. She didn't know much when we asked questions about the menu items. The dessert menu only had 4 things on it and when we asked about the first item on the menu, she told us they no longer served that. Maybe your menu should be updated so people don't ask for things you don't have!! The donuts on the kids' dessert menu were warm and fresh, but the "berries and cream" had hardly any berry syrup and a tiny dollop of whip cream. Disappointing. Oh, and after we ordered dessert, but before it was served, our server walked by and plopped the bill down in front of me. Didn't say anything, didn't explain why the bill was attached to a journal??? And didn't leave a pen with the journal that we assumed we were supposed to comment in. She was NOT my favorite. We'd probably return just for the good food, but hopefully get a different server and go somewhere else for dessert.
Easy to make reservations. The fact that you even take reservations a plus. Food was good with large portions. Your potato chip appetizer was delicious. Sat next to your large party room. If barn doors are closed they can’t open from inside. Had to get up from our table twice to help people get out of the room.
Ordered a drink they didn’t end up having, and the same thing happened with my food order, but they didn’t realize that until 20-30 minutes later. They are new so hopefully they get things straightened out. The food was pretty tasty once we got it.
Food was very good,, service was good as well!! We enjoyed it a lot,, would definitely come back!
Great service and great food! Online reservation was so convenient.
Overall experience was good. Nice variety of food. Wine selection did not include any wines we were familiar with. The recommended wine, Cherry Pie, was not very good.
I wanted to like Union 29. It’s a lovely remodeled space. As planned, we sat down a few minutes before happy hour ended to enjoy a drink before our meal but our hostess said we “just missed out” on it. After waiting 15 minutes without so much as a, “Hello, I’ll be right with you.” it became obvious they’re understaffed and under trained. We did receive our 2nd choice cocktail when the hostess saw we hadn’t been tended to.m yet. Timely as we considered leaving. The food was good and arrived in decent time once we connected with our server. But because of the subpar service, I can’t say I’ll dine here again anytime soon.
Great place and menu. Enjoyed the service and food. However, we were there celebrating a birthday and nothing was offered for it. Dessert menu, dessert etc.
Great trendy atmosphere. Friendly staff! Good was amazing!! Highly recommend!!
Great experience from start to finiah
First visit and we enjoyed it! Great atmosphere on patio and inside. Relaxed, family friendly but not annoyingly so. Food was good and server was a peach!
The food was amazing, the wait staff was not very good.
It was our first time visiting. My husband, and teenage daughter thought we would enjoy a night out. We sat outside and it was very quiet and a nice night. Food was great, service was efficient and went a little above and beyond. My husband spilled his beer on his plate and the waiter brought out new food, no questions asked. Definitely a place we will go to again!
Good menu selection. Very nice happy hour with app specials. Food was very good (fish and chips and burger ordered this visit). Quick, attentive service.
Went out for Father’s Day. Great food, great service!
We were excited to try this new restaurant before going to a movie in the mall. Local menu and beer offerings sounded promising, but there was not much available for the vegetarian (not even a veggie patty option for the burgers) and the beer choices were not terribly interesting. That would have been fine if the food and drinks were priced a bit more reasonably, but paying the bill was a little painful considering that we were a little disappointed in the quality of one entree and generally don't feel we got our money's worth. Wait staff was good, if a little new.
I enjoyed the decor and the food was wonderful. Several things on the menu I'd like to go back and try. A very nice setting for a nice meal.
Everything was wonderful. The only issue we had was our waitress was under age and could not serve our drinks so we had to wait on those and that took forever and those orders got messed up every time. But being new...I Figure those kinks will get worked out
Awesome drinks, service and food! Would highly recommend!
Food was incredible, Eric gave outstanding service. Between five we had the deviled eggs, calamari (which was huge!), farm house burgers, fish and chips, brisket sandwich and chicken bucatini — very impressive menu — will be back!
Great food! We will be back very soon!
The food was interesting, we tried the broccoli and cheese appetizer and chicken and doughnuts. The sauce for the chicken and doughnuts had a pretty hefty spice to it so beware if you get it. Derek, our server was awesome and fun. The drinks are pretty pricey but I understand that's where the profit is.
This was my 4th time to Union 29. My husband and I took our friends who had never been there. They loved it and can't wait to go back.
My brisket sandwich had barely any meat on it and it was cold. I ordered a Manhattan and it was made incorrectly. My husband's tenderloin was so greasy he couldn't eat it. On a positive note the waitress was very friendly.
SLOW. Excruciating slow and no one seemed to know what was going on. Fingers all over drink rims when served to us, 6 different waiters---took 20 minutes to even flag down the first one. Food is average and it seems EVERYTHING is smoked. Potato gnocchi tasted like a campfire and looked like it was served in a dried out potato skin canoe. The decor is elegant in one area and then the bar area has neon green watch gears on the ceiling. Main dining area is too bright. The techno-dance music was plenty loud for a restaurant wanting to give off a farm-to-table vibe. Pick a motif, train the staff, stop smoking everything.
Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect. Our server did a great job. We will be back. The brisket grilled cheese is fabulous. I loved the Brussel sprouts.
The service was super slow from the moment we sat down. Took us 10 minutes to even see our server, another 10 minutes to get our server to bring us glasses for the water pitcher and 20 minutes for drinks. Someone in our party had ordered a 2nd drink before our food arrived; they finally brought the drink as were handing over the bill to pay. Our server wasn’t very friendly and didn’t know the menu at all. We had questions on some items and he always answered with something along the lines of “I think” or “I can go ask”. 3 people in our party ordered burgers and one of them was very undercooked with the other two being just fine. Waited awhile for our bill and ended up having to flag down our server so we could pay the bill and leave. Needless to say everyone in our party agreed that we wouldn’t be back.
Great food and great service. Love the Iowa theme to everything.
We were on time for our reservation and greeted by the host at the front desk and opted for patio seating. The host offered to seat us immediately, and we made our way to the patio- the area was clean and noise level low. We were greeted by our waiter, who explained the menus and took our drink order right away. Upon returning with our drinks, we chose to begin our meal with the cast iron cinnamon roll. The roll was delivered at about the 10 minute mark after ordering and was hot, crisp on the top and lightly doughy inside, with a slight hint of cinnamon. The cream cheese icing melted into the roll and the entire skillet was filled with a cinnamon sauce that was perfect for dipping. For the main course, we split the fried chicken sandwich and the brisket grilled cheese, both came with house fries. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the bun had good flavor. Overall, the sandwich lacked flavor and was a little dry, but adding fry sauce made it much more tasty. The brisket sandwich had good flavor, it was however, a bit greasy for my taste. The fries were plated with the sandwiches and delivered with 3 condiments to choose from- house catsup, a sriracha-catsup and a house fry sauce (described by our waiter as a “mixture of mayo, catsup, mustard and some other stuff”). The fries varied in done-ness from extra-crispy to golden brown to quite limp, we ate few and nothing really stood out. Our waiter was attentive throughout the meal, offering drink refills twice. Overall, a good experience.
I was not impressed with the food or service. The restaurant itself is really neat though! We sat outside and really enjoyed that as well!
They didn’t have our reservation even though we called to confirm that day. Put 8 of us in a booth right by the kitchen with two people crammed on the outside in chairs. Server was rude and distracted. Food was poor.
We visited for Mother’s Day dinner. Server was nice and informative. She knew the menu well and was able to get us information regarding a food allergy in our party. Food was delicious. Service a bit slow but we chalked that up to the day and how busy they were. Food was hot and yummy!!
It's a great, modern venue with appropriately priced food. The service was excellent.
