On a rare night out with the wife, we thought Uni could be magical. We love sushi. We're happy to splurge on our time together. The rub is this place is gas station takeout quality for Michelin star prices. We did the omakase. Thinking they know the best stuff. They upsell you on a better one, which should have been a sign that this is more a marketing effort than a culinary effort. But we did it. Note to self: Next time I'm paying through the nose for a hyped up restaurant and something is so clearly off right from the start, just walk out. Let them sucker somebody else in. Thus started a parade of dishes that went from mediocre to bland. Hamachi, one of my favorite fish, came out as a rubbery square with a pear (?). It tasted like... pear. Oysters came with some sort of pomegranate thing that ruined the oysters. Not a good sign when you just scrape it off to try and enjoy the oysters. A tataki seemed like they tried to sear the edges gently with a torch, but was just dry and cooked. Lots of the food seemed to have been kept under a heat lamp. From the wontons with some gross sweet thing inside that had crumbly pasta pulling away from soggy bags that had clearly been left in the broth too long. A plate of four types of fish was all equally bland and dry. And they don't even use sushi rice. I get the impression there's an attempt to be creative, but really they're just getting ahead of their skis. The guys bringing you dishes mumble through a description while avoiding eye contact. They tell you basically nothing. One described our scallops as "madai" which is not the Japanese word for it. Why not just use the English word? Kind of shows the lack of care the staff takes with the whole thing. Each course came out wham-bam one after the other, making it hard to even talk never mind slowly enjoy things. I get you're trying to turn the table, but don't be so damn obvious about it. It's complete crap. Avoid it.

Great Sushi. Great server. Tremendous cocktails. Portions small and more about flavors and seasonings than just the fish. Though that makes it not your ordinary sushi place. Everything is always good here. Avoid the downstairs room. Noisy and like a hallway.

Uni has been exceptional everybtime I have been and those times have been spread out through the years since it first opened. I have never not had an exceptional bite here. It is an expensive meal out but worth every cent. You can describe how good it is until the cows come home and nothing will be able to tell how fabulous experiencing the food is. The team at Uni from front of house to back of house are a force! So impressive snd we just dream each time of when we can come back again. Also if the choreg ever leaves the menu it will be a tragic day.

There is no question that Uni is one of my absolute favorite restaurants to dine out in Boston. The food is outstanding. The service is outstanding. It is very expensive that I must admit but it’s a treat. If you love sushi or sashimi, it is five stars.

Creative well prepared food. Flavor bombs galore. Dined with three others. We shared everything. One person ordered the Apple Salad and I went along with it to be a good dining partner. It might have been the best dish of the night. Crab fried rice, Brussels sprouts, bluefish pate, octopus, spicy tuna roll…everything delicious. Go here.

Exquisite food (as always), great sake, wonderful service. Really enjoyed the addition of Alba truffles to the Uni Spoon. We tried a few new (to us) dishes which were entirely up to the Uni standard- the Pho Chawanmushi and the Wagyu Dumplings. The kitchen did a good job of dialing back the heat for our party.

I was flying solo for this dinner, part of a short one day conference. I was seated at the sashimi bar downstairs. Ambience was lively but not too crazy. Decided on the a la cart menu. The Uni Spoon was a good tasty start. Toro was fresh with good texture. Sushi was well proportioned.

Some dishes were quite bland (fried chicken bao) and portion sizes ungenerous (eggplant, one small square) given the quite high prices. Crab rice and apple salad were the highlights. Generally underwhelmed and probably won’t return.

I rarely do these reviews because I think they're ridiculous, but man, I did not understand how you guys coursed things. We ordered the choreg bread and it came last, after all our shashimi and nigiri. The fried chicken buns also came last. These are usually appetizer items. And I can't seem to blame this on fact that they're hot items. We ordered the skate win later on and it arrived quite quickly. Otherwise, service wasn't attentive. Not helpful that I came into Boston to celebrate my brother's birthday and we were placed in the corner.

A fabulous food experience-ordered a series of apps for the three of us: grilled short rib (tops), brussels sprouts (so delicious), skate wing (with three sauces an umami bomb), fried chicken bao bun(standard), wagyu beef dumplings (delish), Dungeness crab fried rice (a dearth of crab) as well as a smattering of sushi (uni-mild), tamago (so sweet) and eel. Service was spot-on), we sat at communal high top to save us from a cold exterior table and it was perfect.

When it comes to sushi, this restaurant is a safe bet, although it's a bit on the pricey side. The sushi selection is decent. However, I must admit that the other dishes here can be hit or miss. It didn't quite meet the high expectations I had for a highly recommended restaurant.

We ordered a couple of things that we weren’t as crazy about in terms of flavor but we LOVED the other four items we ordered (bluefish pate, fried chicken bao bun, Dungeness crab fried rice, and the spicy tuna makimono). Our waitress was lovely, the hostess & host were friendly, the cocktails/sake were dreamy, and the ambiance was lovely and fun.

We had been here a year and a half ago and it was good but wasn’t amazing. We came back last night and it was miles better! Our meal was fantastic! Delicious food and great cocktails. The nigiri were all so good. The toro was on point as was the foie gras. We also enjoyed the wagyu dumplings and miso eggplant a lot too. The desserts were also very good. The ube cheesecake was really interesting and leaned savory, which was unique (my husband enjoyed this in particular) and the hazelnut cake with five spice was so good too. We loved the flavors and textures of the desserts. Our server, Jen, was awesome too. She brought great energy, was attentive, and was just a really pleasant person to engage with. Overall, an excellent meal and we look forward to coming back when in Boston.
