Serving inventive Japanese fusion cuisine using the freshest seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, and borrowing influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh, Uni is the evolution of Ken Oringer’s intimate sashimi bar of the same name, which expanded into the former Clio space with Executive Chef/Partner Tony Messina at its helm in early 2016.

We went to Uni with high expectations, as it appears high on many lists of the best restaurants in Boston, but we came away disappointed. We liked the trendy vibe and our server, who was informative and fun-spirited. The small plates were...very small, and very expensive, and ultimately unsatisfying as a dinner. Each of them featured a sweet sauce and seemed more laden in calories than taste. Several of the dishes came out quickly, then dessert took forever, and we finally had to leave without it. Disappointing.

Everything was delicious. The place is loud and it took a bit to get our drinks and some of the dishes, but an amazing, creative meal nonetheless and will return.

The food was outstanding. Uni spoon, and cacio e pepe dumplings top two, followed by the wagyu, halibut, mochiko chicken, duck carnitas, the only less than stellar being the octopus nigiri which was just average. Server was knowledgeable but seemed more eager in pushing more dishes and our pace when approaching the table. Ambiance was amazing downstairs in the corner, if a bit drafty. We didnt mind, just snuggled in more, but the ladies next to us pitched quite a fit to our amusement. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Uni was amazing. The food was divine, and we had excellent service. I did feel a little out of my element as I am a 19-year-old who took my girlfriend there for her 20th birthday and neither of us is really form that class of wealth... But, our waiter was so hospitable and so nice that both of us had completely forgotten our concerns by the time we were seated. We had an excellent time and I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to ruin their sushi palette for good. I.e. I do not know how I am going to go back to eating regular sushi ever again but alas, I will.

I don’t think I have ever been in a noisier restaurant. It really was unbearable. The menu was also different from the last time we were there and this menu wasn’t nearly as good

The ambiance of Uni makes it great for a date or special occasion. The food was clearly thoughtful but not as special as the prices suggest it to be. Overall a nice experience, but not one of a kind.

Truly fantastic. No matter what you choose on the menu, it will be amazing. The ramen cascio e pepe special was incredibly rich with a coating of thinly shaved black truffle. Everything on the sashimi menu is incredible. There simply are not enough superlatives to describe Uni. Best restaurant in Boston. Go here if you can.

Simply extraordinary. We ordered the Chefs tasting menu, but because I am allergic to bell and other peppers, he didn’t feel he could modify it to suit my concerns so instead he created an entirely different tasting menu just for the two of us. It was one exquisite taste after another.

I love this place. Everyone who works there is knowledgeable, courteous, and hospitable.

It s overpriced.

Ramen was super salty this time. I ve had it half a dozen times...not sure what happened this time.

Will still go back for sure!

Food was AMAZING. Tables were tight, it was loud and the air conditioning was out of control (winter in Boston and that much AC?) but all said and done is still go back in a heartbeat because the food was so good? Spendy but worth it.

I took my husband here for his birthday, and we could not have been more pleased. We were welcomed with a duck and fried wonton amuse bouche that set the tone for a series of dishes through the omakase. Too many stand out dishes to list, but we will definitely be back for the wagyu on hot rock and the spicy tuna and foie gras tataki. and the Nantucket bay scallop was a revelation. The service was genuine, friendly, and so celebratory (including a special cocktail on the house with a candle for the birthday boy!). Truly an unforgettable experience and one we'll be looking to recreate for the next big event.

My wife and I dined here for our anniversary and from the beginning they did an excellent job providing us drinks and great food with knowledgeable staff who knew the menu inside and out and made trying new foods enjoyable

Uni was a fun evening, but not ideal for data night since we shared a high top with other guests. The wait staff was great, and the sake recommendation was awesome. The food was kind of disappointing - I have to say. For the price the yellow fin maki roll was worth it. (twice the price of qa rand roll = $40) The scallop roll was def not doing it for me.

All in all we payed $200 for 2 maki rolls, an app, and 2 sakes. Would i go again? Maybe.

Food is good, but the service is TERRIBLE. It could be the best food in the entire world - COULD be - but the service would never worth it. I was sitting in the sushi bar upstairs and I actually wanted to eat more, I just didint cuz I got really upset with the service. People don’t even look at you, with some hope, the front area manager (talk guy, “blond”) will come and take care of you. Besides, when I asked the bill, they brought me the bill of the guy sitting on my side. Btw, The man also left, and he said exactly the same thing about the service! Please, food is really important, but good service is a MUST in any place.

Service was not up to the par. Waitress decided that she had to take whole order up front and then deliver at the pace she wanted vs what customer would have liked. In the result orders came out of order and sometimes together making an impression that they just wanted us just to be hurried through with the least amount of attention. In my opinion staff needs to be trained better. It's Ken Oringer's restaurant.

Omakase is different from every other Japanese restaurant I've been to. A great blend of various ingredients including non traditional Japanese ingredients makes it a culinary adventure. However, there isn't enough variety of change of the chef's selections/creativity within a 6 month timeframe.

It's also a lot noisier and music louder than it used to be when I first got enamored by the restaurant a few years ago when it was only on the lower floor.

Not sure I'd go back even though it used to be one of my favorites. No longer worth the premium.
