Serving inventive Japanese cuisine using the freshest seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, and borrowing influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh, Uni is the evolution of Ken Oringer’s intimate sashimi bar of the same name, which expanded into the former Clio space in 2016. UNI is currently helmed by Executive Chef David Bazirgan.

Granted this is in the midst of Delta covid, but the restaurant is nothing like it was pre-Covid. The sushi options have been cut in half and much less innovative, which was disappointing. My husband has celiac's disease and the gluten-free options were minimal. The service was okay but given difficulty in hiring waiters these days, they did fine. Music was way too loud for the room size, and pretty bad music choices as well. Overall, quite disappointing compared to the past...and the prices were higher too. Too bad. We won't be going back again.
Food was delicious. Service was a bit weak. The noise level was way too loud!
Excellent and inventive food! Quality of ingredients impeccable
Very expensive and would expect at those prices to have more professional service.it was also very loud
Still it was worth the expense and would highly recommend strictly based on the incredible food
The the waitress had no energy and was not helpful with recommendations.
We had to wait 30 minutes before our server greeted us. The music was too loud to have a normal conversation. Service was excellent otherwise. Food was great, but overpriced and took way too long to be served.
Very enjoyable. Not sure why the worse seat was given over the counter while the counter was half empty
One of the best sashimi and sushi restaurants in Boston. Salmon Sashimi with their black bean purée, and the Octopus Sashimi in a barrel aged tamari are my top picks.
A bit bummed. Patio is raging loud - skip it...there's no sound buffer and you'll be ignored for service (other than dropping off and clearing - that staff was sharp). The pacing was fast when asked for drinks and picking up the check, but everything else was awkward. Menu wasn't explained until we had been there 30 minutes with no real guidance. Items we ordered never showed. No one asked about our experience. $600 later and all I remember is feeling uncomfortable and disappointed. I feel bad for the kitchen. Service is letting them down. Beautiful food, but hard to care after all that.
Top level music was way too loud. Great for a bar scene. Could not have a conversation!
Luckily we were able to move downstairs.
Our waitress Alexis was superb! Very informative, had great honest recommendations!
The food was out of this world! Even better than expected!
Sake selection was very good also.
Can’t wait to return.
Authentic and unique! Very fresh. Dessert was incredible.
Amazing service and food, the server treated us to a shot for my gf birthday. Was cool he did it with us. Over all we love coming here
Nice food but very pricey
Everything was exceptional... except for the noise. It was insanely, unbearably loud, and I couldn't hear anything my server said. I don't know what fish I got in my omakase because I gave up straining to understand her.
Poor ambience, seating too tight, and very expensive for what it was. Poor omakase experience.
Best Asian restaurant in Boston hands down!
Really creative preparations! Strongly recommend doing it as an omakase!
Outstanding Asian fusion with really interesting flavors. Would go back in an instant. Everyone in my group loved it.
Uni is a classic restaurant, serving very high-end sushi, and related products. We had theee rolls, and two bowls from their menu. All of it was terrific, memorable, with an amazing taste to it. I would have to say that the highlight was the chow fun noodles, which were very unexpected, but extremely flavorful and very very well prepared. Absolutely worth treating yourself to this amazing place.
The only issue was that in the counter there were too many people tight side by side.
The food was fresh and delicious but for the cost of each item, you don't get a lot of quantity. After ~$100 each at dinner, we ended up needing to eat pizza later on :)
In the world of COVID, we felt extremely comfortable and the food was out of this world. Keep up the excellence!
Outstanding meal. The oysters alone would be a reason to go back, but so is the the garlic pasta dish and everything in between.
Phenomenal food! Excellent service! Creative and delicious cuisine. We will definitely be back.
did not have table we requested. food excellent and creative. service way too slow. they were super busy and I am really happy for the restaurant- they deserve to be busy and making money again! but maybe they need more staff. I will go back because usually it's great food and service. maybe hard to find staff right now.
Food was a great experience.
There was not enough light !! we could not see what we were eating, too bad as the presentation was (I think) beautiful but not visible.
With more lighting, there experience would have been amazing.
Good sushi place. A bit too noisy. Expensive but good quality and creative dishes. Our waitress was knowledgeable and informative about the different Japanese dishes, but kept trying to upsell us to the more expensive options
Every interaction at uni was lovely. From our greeting by the host, to our server and the chef himself! The whole team is knowledgeable, professional and obviously loves what they do! It made our experience that more memorable. The food went above and beyond my expectations and the attention to detail created a high touch experience.
Fish doesn’t get any fresher. Interesting spins on nigiri and sushi. Good beverage selection. A special meal!
It was a little too loud due to the high volume of music and tables being very close together. Difficult to hear the server and converse at the table. Food was amazing though. It would probably be more enjoyable experience if tables were further apart or on a less busy night. I would recommend for the food and I would try again for the atmosphere!
Love Uni. Second time there and will definitely come back!
Great food. Imaginative preparations/combinations that work well to provide great flavor experiences. Dining space and food presentation are attractive and service is generally attentive though you should ask to have your cold sake or white wine placed at the table rather than having it chill at the bar. Maybe it was a busy night but over time it got quite loud which didn’t seem in keeping with the space or the food but the food was so good that one could overlook the noise. Just not a place for quiet intimate conversation. Overall one of the best restaurants we’ve been to in Boston.
We got table inside. The food was incredible.
The tables are very close to each other and it was hard to ignore the conversation at the next table.
Also, the wait time for each dish was very long. But the food was so good, we will come back.
The food was superb. The wait-staff were friendly and helpful, but at this price point should probably have a little more familiarity with the menu. (That's on management, in my opinion.)
delicious, great atmosphere, excellent music choice
Went for our anniversary and had an amazing time! The food is incredible and the staff is very knowledgeable and attentive
Excellent food and excellent service. I've been there 5 times and it has been consistently good every time. Ken Oringer hits it out of the park every time at the plate.
Still great after first visiting 5 years ago.
The service is super friendly and fun, the menu is interesting and creative and yet pays respect to the cultures and the product. Really worth visiting in Boston.
Too loud at times. Difficult to hold a conversation
Loved it! Not great wine list
