We have dined at Uni several times, and it was always an outstanding experience. Last night was outstanding in a different way. Our server’s demeanor was beyond unprofessional and unacceptable. She hurried us from the moment we sat down, despite it being a slow night. She was impatient and aggressive and hostile. At one point she told us she would come back when we “had our act together”. And when taking our order, she reprimanded one of party members for interjecting “I’ll have that too” in the table order, because she was taking someone else’s order who was in our party. This server is doing Uni a huge disservice.

We had the omakase & it was superb. Different seasonings/toppings for each chef’s selections/plate. We had the UNI spoon and that was quite different & highly recommend to be sampled. We had the “lower” priced omakase which had plenty of plates/sampling for the 2 of us. The higher priced omakese has more items which for us would be too much food. Admittedly it is expensive but I am fussy about fresh seafood & this is certainly fresh & well done & presented. Just note that the sushi in omakese is nigri heavy but we were fine with that & they had other items that were not including chicken garlic noodles this night.
With regards to the wait staff they were attentive & informative with regards to the omakase including letting us know it would be nigri heavy this evening. Our reservation was at 6pm during the weekday so there were no issues with crowds. I did notice towards the end that the restaurant was filling up & alot noisier so if you are planning a quieter dinner I would recommend an earlier reservation.

I brought my friend from out of town here, I was excited to take her because my last experience was excellent. It was less crowded this time, but it took about 15 min to get our actual water order in, asked for sparkling, our server dashed off without asking us if we wanted to order any food to start, didn’t come back for another 10 min., and in the meantime someone else came over and poured flat water. Almost 25 minutes after we were seated we finally put in our real drink order (besides the sparkling). The food was amazing, but the service was so disappointing this time I don’t think I’ll be coming back again. Good Food is not worth the price when service is like that

Very sorry to see how Uni has declined vs a few years ago. No more Omakase menu, service was poor with long waits. Food ok but not nearly as imaginative as it used to be. I would definitely not return. A shame as we were looking forward to the evening after some great experiences in the past…

The good was quite good, the server was very busy and I think the restaurant seemed understaffed, as many are these days. He was courteous, but didn’t seem to have the level of sophistication you would expect from a restaurant that charges what Uni does. The noise level was very high, the acoustics in the room quite poor - but it wasn’t a buzzy atmosphere - more like everyone had to shout to be heard over everyone else. The decor seemed a bit tired - again the food and pricing would seem to merit a dining room refresh, this time with some softer floor coverings or acoustic tiles.

Overall, for a high end Japanese food experience, Oishii Boston in the South End is far superior on all fronts - the pricing is about the same, but the food, service, decor, and ambience are much better at Oishii than Uni.

We sat at the bar, and the two bartender / servers were terrific, great mixologists, very pleasant, and very efficient. The food was incredible, with so many unique dishes to sample. This is a must destination for Boston and surrounding area foodies.

I came here to celebrate a special visit from my sister. It was pretty much as close to a perfect meal as you can get! We couldn't get over how good the food was, we loved our server, and the playlist that night was on point. A truly lovely experience.

Food was delicious as always. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped me build a customized omakase experience (hint hint lots of uni, foie gras and wagyu). Awesome night out :)

We absolutely loved Uni. I've eaten at a lot of prestigious sushi places and was a little concerned after reading mixed reviews, but decided to give Uni a chance and am extremely glad I did. The sushi was incredible; fresh, inventive and tasty. The rice was cooked perfectly and our server went above and beyond to create a good experience for us. We will definitely be back.

The restaurant has a very nice ambience. The service was great! Food was kind of hit and miss. Hotate and hamachi sashimi fusion dishes were amazing. The seasonal uni menu was too salty (mushroom absorbed too much salt and the sauce was very salty.) Nigiri lacked of vinegar in the rice. Uni nigiri was weird. The tofu was very sweet.

Food and service were excellent. Music too loud … asked to turn slightly down. Manager would not and we ended up shouting across the table to be heard above the bass. Some items very overpriced even in light of very high quality.

The dishes were highly inventive and flavorful. I don’t know if it’s a pandemic thing, but I felt rushed during my meal. For the price that you are paying here, a more leisurely pace is warranted if there are seats available. The staff was kind.

Creative menu and good selection but small portions and overpriced. The restaurant is almost split into downstairs tables and counter and upstairs bar, counter and tables. I got the downstairs counter which lacked any ambience.

The place is very loud. The tables are so close to each other it felt like communal table. The portions are ridiculously small and overpriced. I liked red snapper ceviche and maguro tuna, but California roll was less than adequate, and beets salad and Kimchi fried rise simply atrocious. The chocolate cake desert tasted like grocery store browny. I had a few bohemian cocktails, and the first one was good, but the second one had much less alcohol in it. Overall recommendation - stay away. One of the worst choices I had made in selecting the restaurant.

Granted this is in the midst of Delta covid, but the restaurant is nothing like it was pre-Covid. The sushi options have been cut in half and much less innovative, which was disappointing. My husband has celiac's disease and the gluten-free options were minimal. The service was okay but given difficulty in hiring waiters these days, they did fine. Music was way too loud for the room size, and pretty bad music choices as well. Overall, quite disappointing compared to the past...and the prices were higher too. Too bad. We won't be going back again.

One of the best sashimi and sushi restaurants in Boston. Salmon Sashimi with their black bean purée, and the Octopus Sashimi in a barrel aged tamari are my top picks.
