great food--from raw fish to shredded duck to desert.
very nice service---friendly
was a great birthday dinner
every course was outstanding except one, the tune tartare. The waitress was particularly knowledgable and helpful and very very nice. The NOISE is the real problem...much too energetic. Granted we are older crowd but maybe just a little noise absorption would be nice. Will return
food was unbelievably outstanding. amazing environment, great service. all around great.
Fun, professional staff. Kate and Harrison are an elite management team. Plus - Chef Tony always brings it 110% raising the taste bud party to the next level. Love this place!
Not a fun experience. Lack of details and disappointing service.
Delicious and creative plates. Highly recommend asking your server for recommendations. We ordered sashimi and nigiri first and then hot plates.
Really top end sushi
Didn't like the hand roll as it was soft.
Really enjoyed our experience at Uni. When we entered we got to choose between dining upstairs where it was a little bit more lively and loud or downstairs where it was a little quieter and intimate. I will say that it didn't feel any more intimate downstairs, but the noise was relatively moderate and I enjoyed sitting close to the sushi bar. The menu is definitely something to take in with time, as there are a lot of cold and hot dishes and then various sashimi, nigiri, makimono, and hand rolls. We had the following dishes.
Hot Dishes -
nuoc cham, thai herbs,
- Loved this dish as it paired thai basil and nuoc cham really nicely to provide pops to the ton with each brussel sprout i had.
Pork Spare Ribs
spicy kabayaki, peanuts
-Awesome spare ribs. Right amount of kick.
Chiang Mai Duck Carnitas
green papaya salsa,
Cacio e Pepe Dumpling
fermented black bean
-Dumpling did not have much in the way of filling, but delivered big time on Cacio e Pepe flavor. Enjoyed the mushrooms the most with this dish.
Hotate - Scallop
maitake mushroom, chinese
chive vin, candied bacon jam
- Really enjoyed the scallop as well as the maitakes. They were awesome in combination with candied bacon jam.
Spicy Tuna & Foie Gras Tataki
aji amarillo, strawberry, black walnut
-Really delicious and clever way of using micro strawberry to pear with tuna and foie
The food at Uni is terrific. It's not standard sushi fare, the dishes are more complex. Our one objection was the lighting, there isn't any. The restaurant is way to dark, you have to use a flashlight to see what you are eating. Uni is also very expensive for a sushi restaurant, at least by Boston standards. Take what you would spend at a high end sushi restaurant and double it, the prices are in line with other top end restaurants so maybe that's the correct comparison.
Noisy, crowded, slow service, expensive- food was good, but not that good.
Sat outside. They fed us slow. Helpful with menu. Great house gin (need the name!)
Food was very good, but it did not live up to the hype.
UNI is an impressive restaurant in Boston. Some of the highest quality sushi I have ever had. You will not be disappointed.
Spectacular Omakase + Waygu.
The sushi sashimi in itself was good but then Too much gets added to it. Great fish does not need a ton of toppings. The mixologists at the bar were wonderful. Friendly, great service, and good Drinks. I would go back for the bar and maybe one of the delicious pork buns.
Everything was delicious and beautiful! The sashimi and nigiri are always a good choice, and are at a whole other level compared to the hot dishes.
Shocked this is the #1 restaurant in Boston magazine . Food is fine, service lackluster
Omakase was wonderful and so thoughtful. I’d highly recommend it to anyone.
Service issues, cleanliness concerns. Great food, other issues will keep me from returning to try more options from the menu.
Food was fantastic! It was just way too loud in there, with that "thumping" music that patrons after a certain age don't like.
the sushi fusion concept doesn't work here. it's overdone. portions are small. the one exception: Enter The Dragon...that was delicious. had wanted to go there for years but we won't go back.
Great place with great music. Food was delicious and waiters were all respectful and knowledgeable of menu.
Really great food, but pricey but every bit was memorable.
Uni has several vegan options on the menu, and they went out of their way to make vegan sushi for me.
Extraordinary. I did the omakase with a wine pairing, and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!
Given the cost, this dining expectation did not live up to our expectations. The food was good, but not out of this world. There are many better options in Boston.
Very limited standard table seating so be prepared to be seated at the bar or at a high top table near the door. Have been here multiple times and have not been able to score a regular table majority of the time.
Long wait for a table and several interactions with hostess trying to push the Sushi Bar seats. Hostess interaction was the worst aspect of our visit
Chose Uni for a special occasion, and for someone who loves sushi and Japanese food. This was our 3rd "special occasion" dinner in 3 weeks, and Uni barely tied for 2nd place - and only due to several stellar dishes. Uni was also the most pricey - twice as expensive as our first restaurant choice. Were my expectations high for Uni - yes! - the best restaurant in Boston and a $450 bill for two. I was also put off by the many reviews regarding seating - we were seated in the bottom floor, near the door to the hotel even though the restaurant was only half full. You can and should do better in a city/suburbs with many fine dining choices.
The food was outstanding!!!
Food was spectacular.
Get the onakase. Loud.
We struggled to have conversation with our out of town friend. It will unfortunately cause us to think twice before dining at Uni again. We last are there 2 years ago, and I think we had the experience then too. It took us two years to forget. Really too bad because food was wonderful. I wish some sound dampening measures could be taken!
This restaurant needs a quieter space out of respect for the food and staff and patrons. The noise level was unlike nothing I’ve ever experienced. It was a huge distraction and disappointment when compared to the outstanding food and wonderful service that was offered. I will never come here again or recommend this to anyone
Fantastic staff that knew the extensive menu and had fantastic recommendations. Food presentation was incredible. I will be back
FABULOUS!! Best sushi ever!
Easily a top 3 restaurant in Boston for us. Sushi can be very expensive so it's more of a special occasion spot for us, but there are some deals to be had (the sparerib comes to mind), and everything on the menu is creative and unbelievably good.
Really great food, innovative items. Fantastic server Randolph
Such a wonderful dinner to celebrate graduation week!
Very noisy place. There is time we can barely hear our conversation. The food is good but uneven with some misses like the sushi rice (little bit tough) and scallop/bacon (bacon overpowering)
I was told the portions are so small that I need to order several to get an equivalent meal. The prices are so high, the quality of food, while good, is not good enough to justify these prices. I ordered a tempura roll which ended up being nothing like any tempura roll that I have ever eaten, and I was very disappointed. When my husband and I finished eating, we both agreed that we would never return.
