Serving inventive Japanese fusion cuisine using the freshest seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, and borrowing influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh, Uni is the evolution of Ken Oringer’s intimate sashimi bar of the same name, which expanded into the former Clio space with Executive Chef/Partner Tony Messina at its helm in early 2016.

Too loud. Way too cold. The chef is trying way too hard. Too expensive. The duck carnitas stole the show. Maybe scrap the sushi and stick with the delicious carnitas. Food doesn’t need to be so “precious” these days - just really delicious. Everything missed the mark. Wish we had not chosen this for our first meal in Boston after years of not being here.

Food was fantastic. Service was great except for the gentleman who asked us to be quiet. He said we were too loud. It was 9 o’clock at an upbeat spot on a Saturday night in downtown Boston. Very inappropriate.

The music was way too loud which takes away from the eating experience. I ordered the red snapper nigiri and waiter didn’t mention the skin was on it so I couldn’t eat it. Didn’t like the dumplings.

Sushi was delicious!

Our party had the 10 piece nigiri Omakase and it was an incredibly disrespectful to Japanese food culture. All 10 pieces were brought out at once and I decline soy sauce after being told that the fish would be brushed and therefore I did not need any supplementary sauce. They must have brushed them in water. Each nigiri was dry and flavorless. One could not distinguish between the different types of fish. Absolutely disgusting and a waste of 58 dollars a person.

Was seated 30 minutes after the reservation time.
Staff was very helpful and attentive and comped the first round to thank us for our patience.
Apps are great. Steamed pork buns are the best item. Maki rolls fall short. But overall a great night out.

Great dining experience! They have amazing sashimi! We love the sea bass, spicy tuna & foie gras and traditional tofu with mutsutake very much!!! The uni spoon and oysters were unique and must try! This restaurant is a must eat in Boston! Don’t miss!

Fabulous Omakase for two - the number one restaurant in Boston lived up to its billing. We also had the caviar which the chef mixed in Large amounts of fabulous Uni from Maine. My wives Martinis were perfection.

We have been to Uni often and the food remains outstanding. The quality of the fish and the inventiveness of the flavors never cease to amaze us. This time we also had a new appetizer for us - lobster, mushroom and pine nuts- spectacular. The service this time was definitely not up to par - it was unusual, until Katie took over for our server and she saved the evening. Thank you Katie! You rescued us and made sure the evening matched the impeccable food.

I had an Omakase dinner. Overall quality itself is not bad. However, serving and waiting time between foods are too long. It took over 2 hours. Too long waiting time made me a bit tired. Also, space for one person in the bar is too small I couldn’t move my arms.

My husband and I have been regulars at Uni since it opened many years ago. The food is incredible, and the service is excellent. There's not much more I can say. It's an outstanding restaurant!

We wait 50 minutes for our reservation and the waiter gave us terrible service. The food really good and the manager knew how to handle the situation so that compensate the terrible service of our waiter.

Our experience at Uni was fantastic. We went in with the idea of trying the Omakase but our waitress also suggested doing our own - which is basically following the Omakase menu but and choosing some things over others. Every dish (mostly sashimi & Nigiri) had was truly fantastic. The quality of their fish is really, really elite. The A5 Waygu is a must-try.

Please note, this restaurant is expensive and the portions are not large. You need to have those expectations going in. This is more of a dinning experience. If you are looking for a cheap dinner with big sushi rolls, this place is not for you.

Our only drawbacks were that the music was loud but you get used to it. By the end of our night, I did admit that I was coming around on the music. It provides an energetic vibe (once you get acclimated to the sound level). Additionally, their cadence could be a lot better. Dishes came fast and furiously at times. I would recommend taking control of that by ordering 1-2 items at once. Make sure you take the time to enjoy every bite.

Who loves sushi? Well then this place is for you. It is truly a sushi restaurant and bar. Those chefs know how to do it. We got the pork belly hot bun. To die for. Get 6 and eat them all!!!!! Then we got an array of rolls and raw fish to split between my husband and I. The chef sent each one out as he saw fit. It was fantastic. My only thought was for the price it’s not a lot of food. But the ambiance has its price too right? Our server Justin was fantastic. Highly recommend sitting in his area.

The sushi was excellent and pricy (but worthy). Waiter Justin was knowledgeable and attentive, but the downstairs room tables were very small, bathrooms nearby and noisy rap music limited conversation and our enjoyment. We were also asked initially to sit at the sushi bar and had to insist on a table of our own since we did reserve one. Overall, okay experience with excellent sushi however not among our favorite sushi meals.

We did the omakase menu and thought that the first few courses were pretty good. However, by course 4, we were waiting over 20 minutes between underwhelming courses. The less than outstanding (yet expensive) food was made more noticeable by the terrible service--our waiter completely ignored us after initially taking our order (didn't ask if we wanted another round of drinks--we did but never could order it!--and we couldn't even get water refills). All in all, it might be worth it if it were half the price, but I wouldn't waste my time or money here again.

Uni exceeded my expectations. They primarily serve smaller plates, so it's ideal to share and try different flavors and dishes from each kitchen. Everything we ordered was well-executed and had bold, distinct flavors. The sushi was expertly crafted. I recommend the ricotta cacio pepe dumplings, rock shrimp, and enter the dragon roll. Although you probably cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. I'll be back!

We had to wait 15-20 mins after our reservation we made a week prior, Service was great but I thought the food wasn’t up to par with the the cost.
