Serving inventive Japanese cuisine using the freshest seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, and borrowing influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh, Uni is the evolution of Ken Oringer’s intimate sashimi bar of the same name, which expanded into the former Clio space in 2016. UNI is currently helmed by Executive Chef David Bazirgan.

    Fish quality was amazing. Fish pairings were overwhelming. Service was unfriendly and felt awkward. It was nice that we got a complimentary dish since they didn’t tell us a lot of things were sold out. The waiter forgot to write down our nigiris and were confused why we just sat there. The waiters didn’t even know what was on their chef’s tasting menu. Really boring explanations making the tasting even more lackluster.

    Disappointed After Many Great Visits I’ve been to Uni several times before and always had an incredible experience, but last night was unfortunately the exception. The night started with our group of six waiting 25 minutes to be seated despite having a reservation and arriving a few minutes early. We politely checked in three times during the wait (about every 7–10 minutes), and each time the front-of-house staff was surprisingly rude and visibly upset with us for asking. Once we were finally seated, it took another 15 minutes before anyone even brought water or asked if we wanted to order. When we placed our order, we were told the hot dishes would arrive first and sushi/sashimi would follow — but instead, everything came out in random order, causing confusion and leaving one member of our group waiting until nearly the end of the meal for their food. Several items we ordered were also forgotten and only brought after we reminded the waiter. To be fair, much of the food was outstanding — which makes the overall experience even more frustrating. Great food does not excuse poor service, disorganization, and unfriendly staff, especially when the bill totaled nearly $900 for our party of six. Sadly, after last night, I don't know if we’ll be coming back.

    Lovely location we were seated in a quiet room In a corner. I asked the waiter if the tasting menu was a ton of food. He said no. It was. We asked if we could sub an item (we all didlike uni). He said he’d try. Well, of course he got it done but neglected to mention the up charge. Which I fully would have expected. I guess what I’m saying is the main server was impatient and lacked integrity. The food was great, however. Would I go back? Doubtful . Super expensive. But if I do, a la carte all the way.

    Definitely haute cuisine, and the servers are very knowledgable. A lot of very interesting dishes, and somewhat of a tapas format. Cost without alcohol or dessert is about $125 per person, not counting tip. The prix fixe was $220 per person, but it appears to include several (probably small) servings of wine.

    Enjoyed the first 5 courses very much . The first set of Nigiri (whitefish) were below average. Carbonara udon was very good. Lamb loin was too chewy. Ambience at the end of the counter with bussers constantly brushing past carrying tubs of discarded used dishes 2’ away from the diner’s face was not good. Service was good.

    Good ambiance, but felt waiter service and food service were lackluster. Placed all my food order down and the first wave of food came out fast, but took 25 minutes after that for 4 pieces of nigiri to arrive. Kind of ridiculous considering it's raw and the cooked food came out way before.

    Be wary of the tasting menu. It was presented as a menu for two for $225, plus a choice of two additional add on items for an additional charge. Bill came to $651, for a tasting menu dinner and 4 cocktails. And for that fine price we were seated at the counter on stools.

    The cuisine and quality is excellent but service a bit slap dash. The prices are very high but it is good overall experience.
