Great food and thoughtful presentation gets compromised by loud rap/percussive music . Its one common room so I suggest something that matches the elegant quality of the food and service. Jazz

We left very disappointed with the omakase menu. The only delicious course was the nigiri set. Very tasty, wonderful fish and flavours.

If only the rest of the menu could have been the same... the fish was overshadowed by unbalanced flavours: activated charcoal « lemonade », foie gras, orange peels. Way too strong, no finesse, no balance. 2 pasta dishes, including cacio and pepe... you probably shouldn’t call this an omakase if you only serve one Japanese course, out of 10.

The service was friendly but rushed.

Bottom line, stick with the nigiris if you go. If you are looking for a true omakase, O Ya is truly unbeatable , a truly superior experience, for only slightly more expensive.

We loved our meal at Uni. Sharing the small dishes was wonderful and everything was just delicious. The only issue was that the music was so loud that it was difficult to talk. Other than that, and of course the very high cost of the meal, we loved everything about Uni and will be back on a next special occasion.

We did the omakase and it was outstanding as was our server. I wish I remembered her name. Wonderful recommendations for wine to go with the meal. Thank you!

Had the Omikase and it was 99% delicious. I did not care for the first course of a fried squash ball. Other than that it was delicious. The service was spotty at times as I had to ask twice for a fork for my wife and for more drinks. The noise level was high which made it difficult to hear the descriptions but they always answered any questions we had. Overall we loved it. We will be back as everyone was very friendly and helpful.

The food could not have been better - familiar but also startlingly original (e g. Fluke sashimi w Concord grape. Loud though with a very young crowd. Worth a visit and then some.

Every time we're in Boston we make it a point to visit Uni for dinner. Have eaten there many times and it never disappoints. Very creative dishes that are presented beautifully and taste even better. It can get quite noisy at peak dinner time which is the only negative I can think of.

We had a 7:00 o’clock reservation, upon arriving we were told that they did not have a table for use but, we could sit at the sushi bar. The host informed me that they had a lot of large parties so they had no tables available. I thought that was the whole point of making a reservation was to reserve a table. We said we would wait at the bar for a table. We were finally seated at our table at 7:50. No apology for the wait other that thank you for being patient.

We were seated in the basement, next to the window. The cold breeze coming through the window was enough to blow out a candle, similar to sitting outside. We complained and the manager closed the blind and said he would tweak the heat up, neither helped. Another couple was seated next to us shortly after, they also complained about the cold breeze and requested to be moved. The host said they would have to wait 40 minutes or sit at the sushi bar. The couple, who had also waited 40 minutes decided making a scene was the better option, after some angry yelling and gestures a new seat was found for them upstairs. I opted to wear my COAT, during dinner instead. Why management has not addressed this obvious open window problem is criminal for such a high end restaurant.

They tables are so close together you are basically sitting at the same table with other people. So to avoid the hearing everything the other party “at your table” is saying the restaurant chooses to crank the music to level ten. So you end up scream across the table the whole time.
The restaurant management did not feel the need to compensate us for the extended wait time or having to wear my coat during dinner with a free dessert or drink which is the least they should have done.

Finally, the food was good if not great but so were the prices. In the end, the poor service, horrible sitting, excess noise, outweighed the good food. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

The food at Uni is very creative and mostly delicious. Uni is not a sushi restaurant, the food is much more elaborate and it's also much more expensive, dinner for two was $300 with tip but with no alcohol. The downside of the restaurant is the noise, it's too loud to have a conversation. What's worse is that they blast obnoxious music over the PA system, I think it might have been rap.

The mixed drinks are super small, but the food makes up for the small drinks. From the sashimi to the duck tacos to the squash with hazelnuts and broccolini. Food was very impressive. Service is great and bartenders are friendly.

Amazing food!! And the service was excellent. My husband and I were seated at the upstairs sushi bar. It was crowded and loud, but the food and service more than made up for the close quarters. The meal was the best I’ve had all year. The wait staff was kind, generous, knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The bar was backed up and I had to wait a while on my cocktail. To make up for the wait, I was served a small glass of delicious champagne. It was unexpected and most appreciated. Nice touch Umi staff! If I’m ever back in Boston, Umi will be my first stop.

The food was amazing and overall we had a great time. I do have to say though, I felt because we are a young interracial couple, we were judged. When we asked about sake recommendations our sever pointed us to the "most cost effect" option. When we placed our sushi order (including toro) our server asked "if we ever had toro before". She was friendly overall, but something about it didn't feel right.

Best service I've experienced in a long time!!! The chef's tasting menu is inspired and not overwhelming (though it is on the pricey side). This was truly a great dining experience. The only downside is that the music was very loud and there were a couple of tables where people were watching videos (with the volume up) on their phones - not the restaurant's fault for bad patrons, but it was annoying.

It was a little noisy and chaotic when we got in for dinner, which did not abate until the crowds thinned out a bit, but that was the only downside to an otherwise fantastic evening. Attentive waitstaff, who emphatically suggested plates as they came in one after the other. Stunning presentation of each plate, each bite was to be slowly savored. I've been waiting over a year to go to this place and it did not disappoint.

Food was excellent! Flavors were amazing, service was great. We were seated at the sushi bar which was a bit tight on space, and a couple of the cocktails had a lot of ice...to the point where it was really only like half a cocktail. But other than that everything was very good!

For my husbands birthday, we had reservations weeks in advance and they tried to seat us at the Sushi bar. We waited until a table opened. Tables are close together so hard for a private conversation. We waited for about 20 minutes for a server to get cocktails but then after that everything else went smoothly. The cocktails were excellent as was the food. They bring dishes out as they are ready so you always have something delicious in front of you. The service was great and the food outstanding. It is definitely loud in there and super trendy. It is worth going for the food! Be prepared as the bill came to over $300 for two of us but we had two cocktails each and a desert. I would definitely return, especially if someone was paying!

I had the omakase. I was somewhat disappointed. No single dish was bad, or even just mediocre. All were at least good. But aside from their signature dish, the uni spoon, none were outstanding. The omakase suffered because the first few real bites after the uni spoon were a series of pieces of different kinds of mostly/all white fleshed fish sashimi. The sauces/condiments/accompaniments were similar and there just was not much differentiation from dish to dish. No high points. For my $200+ (I had a beer for $8, so the bill was almost all food), I expected more high points.

I expected more on the food and the service was weak. We made a reservation and when we sat on the table, the waitress asked us to order everything we wanted because the kitchen was going to close in 15 minutes. Just too rushed dinner vs. our expectation!!

UNI exceeded all expectations. My husband and I went there for our anniversary and it was noted on the reservation. We were greeted warmly and with an immediate “happy anniversary!”. We waited about 5 minutes for our table to be ready which was no problem but the host was apologetic. Between us we ordered 6 dishes- all very good, some outstanding. The highlights were the fried chicken and waffles, the toro sashimi, the maguro sashimi and the dragon roll. The rock shrimp and crab hand roll were good but outshined by the other dishes. It is pricey but definitely one of the best meals I’ve had in Boston and I will be back. Oh and we had complimentary champagne at the end of our meal to accompany the pumpkin dessert. Highly recommend for a special occasion or if you’re just in the mood for an excellent meal and excellent service
