Uncle Yu's at the Vineyard Ratings and Reviews
The food was good, but not great. The spicy stuff really wasn't spicy at all and the Hot and Sour soup could have been hotter and more sour! We like the white pepper and vinegar.
The waitress was fun but her service kind of fell off at about the middle of our meal and she never asked us if we wanted dessert. She brought the bill and we said we would like to look at the dessert menu!
All in all, not a bad experience, but not one we want to repeat anytime soon.
This was my second visit to this restaurant. Unfortunately, the second time was not as good as the first. The appetizers were the only bright spot on the evening - they were spectacular. However, drinks were not delivered (had to remind the server), and were not refilled promptly (again had to remind the staff). For what we paid, we really expected a higher level of service from this restaurant. I am not sure when we will be returning.
Ot was my birthday dinner and even though I put this info in the notes when I booked the reservation, the server had no idea and that was disappointing. He did bring over a delicious bowl of mango ice cream that I enjoyed very much. Overall the food was good. Very busy and lively, we would consider another visit.
My friend and I had a great dinner. The service was fast, professional, and outstanding! My Riesling selection was the best and my friend enjoyed the "Yutini." Our only problem were the annoying fruit flies that seemed to be drawn to our table. I think it was because we were under a light.
Some of the dishes were good, some were inedible.
The service, however, was terrible. Not a single happy face in sight.
It took ages for even appetizers to come out, then they came out one by one and some were missed. When looking for someone to ask questions, there was no staff in sight.
Part way through the meal some strange alarm went off at the bar, and was ignored for about 5 minutes. Really odd that no-one was even in the room for that time period, even though a dozen tables were occupied.
This was my first time at this restaurant but I was with a group of friends who had been there before. It took over 45 minutes to get our wine and one dish was pretty much inedible (very dry). The server wasn't very friendly and not too attentive. Our bus boy was great though and kept up with water refills etc. The friends who had been here before said their original experience was much better. Maybe it was a off night :/
Everything was delicious i'm considering Saturday night is probably one of the busiest nights, the service was great. It started off with some soup that is always super tasty. We dove into the Peking duck, shrimp and scallops, like there was no tomorrow. We ended the night with a little green tea ice cream and a sugar high the last of the whole drive home!
As always, uncle Yu's delivers a great experience!
We had a pre-show dinner here on a Friday night. Our waiter was very attentive. We ate off the gluten-free menu, which a good variety of options. The food was delivered promptly and was very tasty. One of our party has celiac disease so it is important that there is no cross-contamination in the kitchen. She was fine after the meal. The restaurant has a nice vibe and is close to parking and the theatre.
We had the 3 course wine pairing dinner and it was really good. The 3 appetizers were each paired with their own wine samples. The main course was wonderful and the pairing was perfect. The desert and its pairing was out of this world. We plan to return again!
Best date restaurant we've been to in a long time. We enjoy the Uncle Yu's in Lafayette, and also liked the cocktails in the one in San Ramon (now closed). Thought we would try the vineyard branch of the chain, and weren't disappointed. Lovely candle-lit ambience, and 35 page wine list! The hand-crafted cocktails are also amazing & flavorful. Had the dragon bao, duck, beef and soup, and all were superb. Wait staff is prompt and pleasant, we will definitely return :)
I reserved a table for 7 for a birthday lunch. We were escorted to a semi-private room with about 4 tables but we were the only party in the room. We each ordered a dish to eat family style and with the rotating center it was easy to fill the plates. The food could not have tasted any better. The BBQ Sea Bass was exquisite! Well...it was all so delicious . We also partook the Kung Po Chicken, crispy salt and pepper calamari, prawns with honey walnuts, Peking Scallops, vegetable fried rice, wor wonton soup, and shrimp chow mein. We laughed and very much enjoyed dining in Uncle Yu's Restaurant. Oh we also had 4 different desserts...all delicious especially the Pear Tart! I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and I will return to dine again. They also make a mean Bloody Mary. The service was top notch as well.
I know it was over 100 outside but bringing the guitar player inside from the patio was a bad decision. Cancel and pay the performer - it was unbearably loud with the music inside and very hard to have a conversation over dinner.
Usually love Uncle Yus - this was just a bad decision.
I love Uncle Yu's as the food is wonderful. However, the noise level is over the top! Had dinner there Sunday night, and it was quite possibly, the worst dining experience I've ever had due the noise level, and the table of 12 very boisterous people sitting next to us. Also, there was a singer with a guitar in the dining room. Obviously, could not hear her, nor would I want to. Terrible environment to enjoy a dinner in. Sorry Uncle Yu's, I won't be back for a while.
Had a date night here last week. Food and service were both decent, but significantly above the average for Livermore, so I'll definitely be back.
Food highlights included the crab stuffed shrimp- super decadent, and the bbq seabass, which was an overkill of fun lobstery texture in the best way. General tso's chicken was not crispy as I was anticipating but was incredibly tender.
On the other hand the noodles for the Wagyu Chow fun weren't cooked properly and stuck together in clumps of un-sauced, incompletely boiled yuck. The pork bun combined some very proper steamed bun with unseasoned, flavorless ground pork filling. Like a home run that sails just out of bounds, it could have been really great.
Service kept things moving along nicely though. The hostess helped us find just the right table, and our server Clarin was prompt and responsive.
Our drinks were never empty (huge plus for me, nothing makes a person feel forgotten- and helpless- more than being thirsty and being able to do nothing about it). Clarin also happened to be nearby after all our first bites. Most of the time things were just fine, so these were uneventful visits, but when the seabass turned out to be cold and raw in the middle, she just so happened to be right there to take it back.
Overall, an experience that could have gone either way was properly managed to be a solidly good night. We'll be back.
