Second time here. So outstanding. Food, service, ambiance. Perfection. Can’t wait to be back.
To celebrate mother’s Day.
We love it and go often. We like the relationship between the Bankhead and Uncle Yu's.
Did Chef’s tasting menu as an anniversary dinner and it was incredible. Nice to sit back and let the Chef surprise you. The ginger-butter lobster was out of this world. Been here many times but first time trying the tasting menu. A great experience.
Everything on their lunch specials menu tastes great with quick service, centrally located downtown, and beautiful dinning rooms which look larger than they are due to all the mirrors.
Delicious food and a great place with friends, family, or a date. Attentive service and free parking nearby.
Great Mother’s Day experience. Wonderful greeting with speedy seating. The food was fantastic. Great atmosphere. We will surely be returning.
The food was outstanding. I was also impressed by the excellent local variety of the wine list. The wine was almost as hard to choose as my meal! I would probably recommend not going on holidays. I went on Mother’s Day and even with a reservation waited 30 minutes to be seated.
Mother’s dinner for 5. We arrived 15 mins early and was told to be seated soon. But we didn’t get a table until 15 mins past our appointment time. Very disappointed. After seated, we didn’t see our server for 10 mins. We have to ask the manager for server. The dishes are pretty salted. Overall a very unpleasant experience for a restaurant that have such a high review. Never again.
Went for Mothers day. Got seated within 5 minuets of my time. Food was a little expensive but the quality was worth it. It's my second time there. We don't eat out much. We will be back soon. Had a wonderful meal. Mongolian Beef, Shanghai Noodles Lotus Lettuce. Outstanding.
My family and I went to Uncle Yu's for Mother's Day and the food was GOOD! They have good portion size bowls or plates for two people to share. When you think about Chinese food you think about food in white boxes and sometimes not enough, but this is nothing like that. The food is fresh, hot and ready for you to enjoy. Who ever is reading this, find time to check this place out.
Even though our waiter wasn't Nick, he helped us with our wine choice as well as our food! He's always so pleasant and helpful!
Uncle Yu’s was the perfect dining experience for Mother’s Day. Everyone liked the food (they have a vegan menu so I was extremely happy!) and appreciated the deep & calming color scheme/atmosphere. All the staff we encountered were efficient AND had a great sense of humor. Most important, Mom had a great time.
Celebrated Mother's Day lunch; great service, excellent food, although a little bit on the pricier side. Lacy, our waitress was awesome.
We went for Mother's Day and had a great time! Food and service.. and wine were all excellent. I liked how it wasn't a special or fixed menu either - we were able to order off the regular menu and enjoyed some of our favorites entrees... and ate family style so tasted a variety.
Uncle Yu's at the Vineyard is a great Asian restaurant, The food itself is consistently good and the menu diverse enough for anyone to find something. We did the shared dish style dining (it's amazing how much you miss those turntables when doing this) and the dishes were nicely varied enough for everyone to have something. The prices are high moderate.
Another impressive part of the evening was the wine. Nick, the proprietor, is a sommelier and has a very extensive wine list from around the world. We chose a lovely French Gamay Beaujolais . Wonderfully perfect with the Chinese food. If you don't know what to do, feel free to ask. They are very helpful.
There is a large lot for parking next door, but it can be difficult if there are events going on in Livermore. Something to keep in mind.
It is popular so reservations are a must.
The food was spectacular. This might be the best Chinese cuisine in the Bay Area.
If you are a non-white they just take you to the back and put you by the bar. Happened twice, while they had many open tables in the front and it was past 8:30pm and no one else took those tables the whole time we were there.
We had an excellent experience at Uncle Yu's whilst celebrating a Golden Wedding anniversary. One of our party has celiac disease and the server was most attentive and understanding about how the gluten free menu items should not be cross-contaminated in the kitchen. The food was delicious as well as the cocktails and wine. They have an excellent wine list. The service was outstanding. We had a lovely, relaxed dining experience.
The waiter forgot one of our dishes. When we asked about it he looked a little surprised and said “it’ll be right out”. I saw him go back to the register and type the order in. It came out in a few minutes - and it was not as we had ordered (shrimp instead of chicken. There was no admission and after that, no offer of compensation. I just thought that was poor form. It also very much disrupted our dinner. We ended up having to take the dish to go.
Never disappointing. Guests visiting from out of town and they have never had better Asian cuisine.. top notch!
Taste and ingredients are top quality. Orange beef, walnut prawns, four bites, fried rice, duck, sea bass are unique. Always use Wagyu beef. Worldwide wine selection to pair with different dishes. Service is excellent with most servers. Table bus personnel are tops.
Nice atmosphere and food is always delicious no matter what you order. Service is consistent too We sat outside this time as was such a nice evening. We asked to take our time and the waiter didn’t rush our courses. Nice cocktails and a great wine list too. A happy evening for us!
Great dinner before a night at the Bankhead Theatre
Poor service - we had to get up to find server to order wine refills and also additional dressing that was initially ordered. Surprisingly slow/poor service as the restaurant was not very busy. Previous owner consistently ran restaurant 100% more efficiently. We previously dined here (and San Ramon) weekly for 25+ years.
Food and service was very good
Came to celebrate a milestone birthday. Most restaurants would acknowledge by the waiter / waitress wishing happy birthday. Not this waitress at Uncle Yu here in Livermore. The soup came quickly, the entrees not so fast. The food was above average. Waitress never checked back to see if we needed anything. Then we ordered desserts. Our water glasses had been empty since the middle of our entrees but were never filled. Then the desserts were served and I had to ask her for more iced water. The service here was extremely SLOW! Definitely NOT ATTENTIVE at all.
Overpriced with poor service and mediocre food. Portion sizes and quality have gone way down over the years. It’s not worth a trip. We were ignored by the server and will not be returning.
Had a great lunch at Uncle Yu’s! The food was exceptionally good. Everything was prepared and cooked perfectly. I had sweet and sour pork which can, sometimes, be overlooked but it was tender and the sauce was amazing.
It was a bit busy for a Sunday and it took unusually long to get waited on but our server Jenna made up for it with attentiveness and her friendly smile! Overall a great meal.
Uncle Yu's never disappoints us. Everytime we visit this restaurant we are always pleased with the excellent service, delicious food, and portions. We were going to a show at the Bankhead so the staff serviced us expediently. It is nice that this restaurant is always consistent.
Gluten free dishes were bland, Sea Bass was excellent
Wonderful food, very pricey wine.
Both whites we had were slammed by wines half their price.
We used to love this restaurant for birthdays and anniversaries. Our recent visit left us feeling that the prices have increased, but the quality and quantity of the food has decreased.
Very disappointing. We’ve been here several times and it’s always been good, pricy, but good. What irritated us the most is we specifically said “No Onions” on anything and 4 of the 7 dishes we ordered had onion in it !!!!!!! Soup was warm at best which really is annoying. The server was pushing the eggplant appetizer because the table next to us had it also.
We took her recommendation and was not impressed .
It was a business dinner so was very disappointing.
Great food and service!
While we've had enjoyable meals here before, tonight was a real disappointment. I will think twice before coming back. We arrived on time for an 8:15 reservation and were told they were running 10 minutes late. Okay, no problem. A half hour later, they said it would be another 10 minutes! At 9:00 pm we were finally seated with lots of excuses about "people not leaving". You're a restaurant. Your job is to understand your table turn rate. Had I been told at 8:15 that my reservation was pointless and it was a 45-minute wait, I would have walked down to any other restaurant on First Street and could certainly find something that didn't have a 45-minute wait.
Unfortunately, there was nothing special about the dinner that warranted either the wait or the "premium" price. Did you really just charge me $9 for 4 tiny wonton chips with a dab of goat cheese? Why, yes, you did. The entrees were fine but nothing special. The room was too loud to be able to converse comfortably with those at my own table (although I do know everything about the kitchen remodel of the people at the next table).
Quite mediocre compared to the reviews we had read.
We love the food, wine and the sommelier Nick. It's always an adventure in wine tasting and the pairing he suggests are perfect
We love this place
