Umi - Winter Park Ratings and Reviews
Really not impressed. Fish was not properly trimmed - my piece of salmon had skin still on, hubby's mackerel did not have red portion trimmed off. Requested the lobster/crab roll but asked for the lobster to be grilled, not tempura. My roll was dry with little flavor. Overall a nice experience - friendly staff, but not impressed.
Always an outstanding choice for fresh Sushi Umi will not disappoint. All the rolls are unique and very flavorable! The service is very attentive without being overbearing. My wife and I always enjoy spending a night out at Umi and we think it is the best Sushi restaurant in Orlando.
We had the pleasure of having Blake as our server and he was amazing! I hosted a small birthday lunch for my husband. Most of our guests had never been to Umi before. He was patient with them and answered all questions to their satisfaction. He even made us laugh a few times.
First visit to this restaurant and liked the decor and ambiance the hostess was very nice, but our waiter was distracted. We ordered green tea which was served warm and miso soup also served warm, the waiter forgot our appetizer, refills and didn’t mention desserts, the food was good tuna kobachi, Godzilla and umi roll. Kind of disappointing, probably won’t return there are too many other great sushi restaurants.
Appetizers were amazing. Quality and taste for main entrees (sushi rolls) were subpar. Quality lacked and the taste of the sushi was slightly off. Sushi flavors didn't blend well. Dessert menu wasn't offered and waitress barely stopped by to check on satisfaction of customers. I tried the 70% roll and the grilled cajun shrimp was more like steamed shrimp with barely any seasoning along with the shrimp itself was not present the same as advertised. Mango Tango roll had an odd combination in mixture (too sweet and something else). PBR roll was missing a speacial pick me up - possibly some spice and spicy kick to make the roll better. Raw fish was a little warmer than it should have been.
We brought our friends with us this time and had another outstanding experience. Blake an the entire team looked after us and made sure we had an absolutely perfect meal. We enjoyed a number of staff suggestions, punctuated by the freshest, most artistic sushi rolls you will find anywhere. Umi has something for everyone, and now with an expanded wine list it has become our local favorite!
My wife and I are regular diners at Umi and look forward to our visits. We always ask to be served by Melissa and were pleased she was working. Once again Melissa provided exceptional service. The house ginger salad and miso soup were very good as always. Same for the nigiri selections and the sushi roll which we consider to be the best in Central Florida. Unfortunately, it was an off-night for our hot plates. I often order the short ribs but I don't recall it being served in the past over farro that I did not like. I should have looked more closely at the menu. My wife planned to order the chicken teriyaki but it was no longer on the menu. She ordered the shrimp tempura instead and did not like it- too heavy on the deep-fried grease and breading. However, we will consider this an off-night andwill plan to return soon.
Excelente experiencia, el sachimi de salmón fantástico, los short ribs , el roll de langosta y los tomates con beacon. Postre cream brule y helado de avocado. Lo mejor el servicio de Cole. Vamos a repetir
My wife and I recently did a little staycation in Winter Park, walked by this place and decided to have dinner not once, but two nights in a row. Nice little quaint place at the edge of Park Avenue. First night food was amazing, Jared our server had great recommendations. Second night was even better. Our server Gregory was attentive, but not overbearing. Jeannie was able to quickly correct a kitchen hiccup without ruining our experience. We will definitely be back and see ourselves becoming regulars.
Y'ALL!! This is my new favourite Japanese restaurant in Orlando, and I have been singing its praises to pretty much everyone I meet, I enjoyed the food that much. I got to come and check this place out on the last day of Magical Dining Month.
For my 3 course tasting menu, I decided to get the Sake and beer mussels, the Japanese Chirashi followed by the Matcha Tea Pannacotta. Hands down, the Japanese Chirashi is the way to go - they do a Korean version too, and I want to come back and try that next time (yes, there will be a next time!).
For me, I found the broth of the Mussels to be super bitter, and that taste overwhelmed the delicacy of the mussels. Maybe I should have spoken up, but it took a while for this dish to arrive and I was starving, so just gobbled the thing down. I dont plan on ordering this dish again.
I'm skipping ahead to the Matcha Tea Pannacotta, which was great texturally, and presented in a beautiful manner, but again for me the matcha or green tea flavor was too intense. It overwhelmed the panacotta creaminess I normally expect. Also, it wanted in comparison to the taste I had of the Matcha Bread Pudding which my co-diner had ordered, and this was wonderful and the dessert I would order again, instead of the Pannacotta.
So finally onto the Japanese Chirashi. Swoon, Sigh, Bliss! Each bite was so good, with the selection of fish just perfectly complimenting each other and it honestly makes me never want to eat 2nd rate sushi ever again. The quality of the fish was just superb and the accompanying radish plus wasabi (the real kind!!) just added to each blissful bite. I was so happy I got this and would absolutely recommend this item from the menu. in fact, this dish made it a 5-Star, otherwise it would be a 3.5 based on the other two items.
Definitely plan to return and check out other items on the menu!! Also, a quick note that the service was superb - our waiter (Justin/ Jared?) was super entertaining and funny - can't wait to come back.
If you love sushi, exotic foods, noodle dishes this is the place you should go. Their delicacies are fresh, the food comes out super hot, their foods are full flavored yet palatable , the waitstaff is super friendly and prompt. This IS the place to go in Winter Park Florida. Third time and still a charm, and we're coming back.
Our first visit to Umi was positively delightful and, yes, we will return in the future. We were seated promptly, the ambiance was very relaxing and the food very tasty. My only "regret" was not ordering the shrimp tempura. The people at the table next to ours had some and it looked soo good! Service was a little slow, however.
The food was wonderful.... especially the garlic lemon edamame! Yum! The only problem is the air conditioning. We were seated upfront and asked to move closer to the back... it was way to hot! Otherwise, we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the food immensely.
Another wonderful experience at Umi. We've always enjoyed the creative culinary concepts, but was surprised this time that Umi is raising its game with the selection of Blake an Manager and addition of key staff members. It is clear that service is as important to Umi as is the terrific cuisine. Ashley served us and was terrific - she offered us recommendations and gave us ideas to change up our routine! Always fresh and always something new to try at Umi!
I give this place 20 out of 10. I have heard about this restaurant on a number of occasions but didn't actually get to try this place until last Friday with my boyfriend. Although there was a little bit of wait even with the reservation, we grabbed drinks at the bar during our wait and really felt how vibrant the restaurant was with so many people waiting outside to be seated. It hyped our expectations and excitement about the restaurant. We ordered from the magical dining menu and I must say that each and every one of food that we selected were absolutely fantastic! I grew up eating sushi and have been disappointed on so many occasions where I go to a recommended sushi restaurant and find out that it is not so great. However, every piece of fish was super fresh and delicious! I had chirashi this time and I plan to go back and order their moriwase. My boyfriend really enjoyed eating his two rolls (Mango Tango and blaze). We finished the evening with matcha panna cotta and matcha bread pudding. They were both excellent but the bread pudding really got me! Aside from amazing food, the service was also great. It was a busy Friday night but I never felt like I had to wait forever to talk to my server. During our meal, the owner checked on our table twice to make sure everything was okay and was super attentive. Although I feel that tables are bit cramped in (it is a small restaurant on park avenue), I think it will be nice to sit at the outside table now that the weather is cooling down and people watch. I will definitely go back to this restaurant to dine again very soon. I am very excited to have found a new favorite spot in Orlando. :)
Always let Magical Dining Month be your guide...
Thanks to M.D.M. we had a delcious Epciurian Adventure to Celebrate my Mom's Birthday a few days early. When we walked in the door we were warmly greeted by the Hostess and taken to our table that we had booked on Open Table to assure our dining time. We were given the regular menus so I then requested the Magical Dining Menus which were uickly brought over.
After a few minutes our server, Ashley, came over and greeted us and took our drink order and then went over the Magical Dining Menu with us, then took our orders and let us know that our first of 4 Courses, Miso Soup, would be brought out shortly. When our soup we brought to our table they came in these adorable covered bowls so that it would stay hot. I am new to Miso but this was a delicious way to start the evening and a great way to warm the soul.
Once we were finished we found we had a bit of a delay awaiting the next course and when our server finally came over she appologized as they were have an issue in the kitchen and would it be ok if we received our entrees prior to our appetizers? We all agreed that it would be fine, but as soon as they began bringing them out, my Mom and I both received all of our food at once and my friend didn't receive any of his which was coming from the kitchen and not the sushi bar. A few minutes later he was finally served his appetizer, which were the Beer & Sake Garlic Butter Mussels. A good 10 minutes later he finally received his entree.
For my appetizer I chose the delicately sliced Cobia Crudo and for my entree, The Mango Tango and the Spitfire Signature Sushi Rolls. From the first taste of the Cobia I was transported. It was so tender and flavorful. I loved it. Then to follow it with some of the best sushi I have had in some time. The Mango was definitely my favorite.
We came in for the Magical Dining menu and to introduce friends to one of our favorite restaurants. Once again it did not disappoint. We ordered off the Magical Dining menu as well as the normal menu and loved every bite. They paired the perfect wines and beers to go along with what we were having and the flavors blended fantastically. We have yet to order something that we didn't like during lunch or dinner and highly recommend this great little restaurant to everyone. We'll be back!
Another outstanding experience at UMI on Park Avenue in Winter Park. New creations by the chef were spectacular and the wine recommendation by sommelier Blake was the perfect match! I look forward to trying a few other interesting varieties on their expanded wine list
My wife and I are regulars at Umi and always enjoy our visit. Melissa is an outstanding server and we ask to be seated at one of her tables. We had our usual dinner of miso soup, ginger salad, selected sushi, and a hot dish. This time I had the short ribs and my wife had fish. Umi consistently delivers a great dining experience and we consider it to be one of the best restaurants in Central Florida.
