The restaurant was closed. No one called to tell me. My client and i showed up and had to scramble to find somewhere else to eat. I can't believe the restaurant and open table let me book a reservation in the first place, and then did not inform me of this issue. TERRIBLE.
Umbria Prime has apparently closed, so I was disappointed I could not cancel my reservation. And when I tried to contact them their number is disconnected. May be a good item to note on Open Table.
When we arrived in Boston we were told by the folks at the Hilton that Umbria Prime was closed and so we did not go to that restaurant for dinner...when we tried to cancel our reservations we were unable to do so. If this is not the case....someone should look further into this...
Upon arrival the doors were locked and no lights on. The restaurant was closed but no sign on the door. Not sure if they are closed permanently? When I called only got an answering machine.
I had a 1:00 pm lunch reservation. The restaurant was closed. There was no sign, no indication of why they were closed, no information available. I'm not sure they are still open.
Excellent service. The food was great.
Seemed a bit disorganized while we were there. Food is of good quality, but the wine list is too small for a restaurant charging these prices. Most of the short wine list was not available, our party of five had to pick a few before we found one they had...and then they only had one bottle. The seemed to only have one bottle of the next two selections.
My continuing pet peeve with video screens in restaurants was again in play. This restaurant uses cable TV music stations as a soundtrack, and had the current selection described on two large video screens in the bar..so while the restaurant is dark and intimate, you have a flashing display in two corners. unnecessary in this day of streaming audio sources.
Good food, weird svc and ambiance. probably won't be back.
Ambiance was nice -- service slow for drinks too many times.
Waitress was busy talking to other waitstaff. Food very expensive for quality as we all got fish or steak. In talking to the young lady (hostess) at the door, Umbria appears to cater to the after 10 pm bar scene so food is not a priority. Will not go back.
Just ok. Maybe it was a slow night, but everyone seemed a little bored.
Great steaks, nice, little place with lively athmosphere
Great place. It's definitely my go to lunch spot.
Have visited Umbria the last few times we have traveled to Boston. Always great food, great atmosphere and great service. Definetly recommend. Filet is very tender, nice flavor.
Very cute place to bring a romantic date. Nice and quite, food was good and the drinks were good.
Although Umbria Prime is seems a little ritzy on the inside and the clientele looks the same, the food doesn't seem to fit and leaves very little to desire. We went for restaurant week and none of our plates were exactly what we'd imagined after having read the menu. For example, we ordered two mussel plates and a caesar salad. The salad was just lettuce in dressing on a plate because the croutons were forgotten. The mussels came in a fra diavlo sauce as opposed to the white wine sauce stated on the menu. The steak was overcooked and the desserts, two carrot cakes came out with different frosting... one with actual cream cheese frosting and one with a squiggle of whipped cream on it. It was a little bizarre.
The food was not great at all. The steak was extra dry and had no flavor. The chair I sat in had paint stains all over it. I was surprised they would allow a guest to sit in something like that. I will not be going back
I dined at Umbria a couple of times and it never let me down. They have a pretty good wine list; food quality was usually very good but my steak was a little dry/overcooked this time. This was the only time I didn't finish my entree. Service was very good so I'm sure will come again.
it was a good experience
Went to Umbria Prime on restaurant week- made an early reservation and it did not disappoint. Great service and very good food. Will definitely go again.
One of my favorite restaurants in Boston that never disappoints. Food is always amazing.
Came here with a friend for Restaurant Week. Chose this restaurant for vegetarian options. Service was a little slow for a lunch break.
Took more than 45 minutes to get our salad. The salad was wilted and barely dressed. The steak was good, but we had to get our desert to go since the entire experience took so long.
I have been to Umbria Prime a number of times and everything from the pizza to the classic Italian dishes like the Pappardelle are always consistently great. I have only been there for lunch but hope to do dinner there soon.
Our server was absolutely amazing bringing multiple glasses of wine for my sister to taste test before choosing a bottle for her birthday. Above and beyond!
Hostess was great, after that everyone else just went through their paces. Noting special that makes me want to go back. Have been in years, and I live across the street. May be years before I return again.
The pasta was outstanding, but the cocktails left something to be desired.
We went there for Valentine's Day they said it will be compliment flowers they werent any on the table. My wife was freezing super cold inside
reservation made for 8:15pm but didn't get seated till 9:30pm. Seated next to a side exit door which had plenty of traffic, so cold they placed a portable heater next to the door. Food was good but the wait and cold situation Ruin the ambiance and experience. We were expected better service/ setting for the price in the menu.
We've been here before and food and service was great. Unfortunately not the same this time around. Reservation for 7:45. Seated promptly on 1st floor to right side corner. 2 tables from exit door. Which prob wouldn't have been an issue but the staff used the door which was to unheated stairwell and every time they opened the door the tables right there got hit by a blast of cold air as it was -5 outside! The small portable heater that was placed there did not really help.
Waitress was very attentive taking our drink and app orders and returning for dinner order. Someone else brought the app over but didn't speak English and I was unable to place another drink order....didn't see waitress for approx 20 minutes....serious....my back was to the wall and I had a view of the bar and tables to my Left and right and she never once came to check on any of the tables. When she did returned to the area to drop off apps to table to our left she buzzed away b4 I could grab her to get another beverage.
She returned about 5 minutes later to drop off bread to the table to our right and I was finally able to order another drink....and the table she had dropped off apps at 5 minutes b4 asked her to bring a dish so he could eat the apps-he had no dish!!
A short time later when she went by I asked her if we could get some bread. She thought she had already....
Our entrees took about 40 minutes more. I ordered the seafood pot. It was very good but could have been served with some pasta....and the 1/2 lobster that was in it was still in the shell so I had pick up the claw that was in red sauce to crack it open---got a little messy.
Wife had a steak dish. She said it was good.
Minus the staff using the door to unheated stairwell and the missing waitress the food and atmosphere was great!
My husband and I ate here for Valentine's Day dinner on Saturday 2/13/16. The service was extremely slow. Our waitress was friendly, but she must have been busy because we did not see her very often. Also, I had the salmon which was good, but it was pared with lentils and I did not enjoy the combo. I will say- on another positive note- my Husband's steak was delicious. He loved that.
The food was superb. Both myself and my date ordered the filet mignon and were very pleased with our choice. The service was great. Our waitress came to check on our table the right amount, enough to feel like we were well attended to but not too much that we felt rushed. She was very knowledgeable on the menu and offered great recommendations. My one minor complaint was that the 3 course special was not properly listed in the menu, it implied that more items were included than what was actually available for selection. It was still a great deal but from a customer perspective it's always preferable to know the options upfront. The wine was excellent, the food was great from start to finish, overall an excellent dining experience.
We where in town for a convention and needed a night out for some real food. Found Umbria to have a good selection on the menu, good staff and easy to locate. The pasta was fresh along with the meatballs perfectly spiced. The popovers served when we sat down where a great change from bread. Others in my party had the beef(perfectly cooked and very tasty as they serve Allen Brothers prime) Two others had fish and said it was prepared and seasoned just right. Dessert...we all licked our plates clean. The bread pudding was tasty as was the tirimisu.
I would go back for another meal when in town and have told my friends that live locally to give it a try.
This restaurant has awful service. The waitress was rude from the get go. We were seated next to a door that was opened every 2 minutes and it was freezing. Pizza was soggy and we were brought the check before we were even asked for dessert. We opted to not inquire and left.
We had an excellent dinner at Umbria. To begin, I would like to complement the staff as everyone was very attentive to our needs. The dinner started with a nice surprise: popovers instead of the traditional bread basket. They were large and warm and delicious. We told the waitress we were going to share a Caprese salad as an appetizer and when it arrived it was already separately plated for us! The cheese and tomatoes were fresh. I recommend the Bolognese. It was a rather huge portion but was seasoned quite well and was scrumptious. Another favorite was the seafood pot-delicious! The wine cellar was well-stocked with a variety of reds and whites and the drink menu featured a "Spectre 007" Martini made with Belvedere vodka and fresh lime juice. Overall, the food, ambiance and service was 4-stars.
Umbria Prime has become my favorite restaurant. It is small and charming. The food is fabulous. We had a variety of dishes including a very enjoyable light calamari, meatballs, oysters and shrimp. We sampled the tomato soup, wild boar ragu, and sea bass, and all were excellent. The sauces in particular have subtle and wonderful flavors. Save room for the chocolate mousse cake! The restaurant lends itself well to small groups. I am losing my hearing, and have started to avoid restaurants, but find the charm and quiet of Umbria very nice.
Unbria's food is always good but unfortunately they have down graded the menu. The selection of steaks is very limited whereas the selection of pizzas and pastas has grown. They seem to have lost their flare for higher end food. I wish them the best but it might me time to find another steak house.
This was my third time at Umbria in a month. Enjoyed it with a client! My granddaughters 16th and now my birthday! Love the ambience, love the food! Missed the server I had two other times, Mirela....
The restaurant is located in an beautiful Revolution Era part of Boston in a gorgeous old converted brick building. The dining room is spacious, but cozy and the ambiance is lovely and delightful. The service was fantastic, but the main reason anyone goes out eat is the food and Umbria Prime knows how to deliver. My filet mignon was simply seasoned, cooked to medium rare perfection and absolutely delicious. The Chicken Ravioli and the Pasta Bolognese were also very tasty and the Veal Chop is a work of art. A great dining experience all around! We will definitely go back.
My $65 steak was overcooked and the service was spotty. Not impressed. Won't be back.
Went for New Years Eve dinner for 2015, had the NY Sirloin and rack of lamb and it was all very delicious!
