UMBRA - Canopy Hotel by Hilton - Minneapolis
I was surprised that the food was not what I expected. The mussels were gritty and the sea bass was overcooked. The desert was good though. The server did a fantastic job.
Valentines Day dinner. The surf and turf was PHENOMENAL. I will most definitely be coming back.
Had Valentines Day 3 course dinner. The ambiance was very romantic, the food was exquisite and the service was warm and inviting. The chef and restaurant manager introduced themselves. Lovely experience.
If based on food and atmosphere alone, I would certainly recommend UMBRA to friends, but our service was not very satisfactory at all. It was slow, the waitress seemed unsure of herself, bites were ordered and forgotten and drinks were not refilled. Our group of 4 was not charged for the bites, so that was worth a star. Hope things can improve because all in all it could succeed!
Great service, awesome food, great atmosphere. I went a little early in order to get to a concert, so it was very quiet, but I'm guessing it would get more energetic after 7pm. Old Fashioned was on point. I also had steak and my wife had sea bass. I would certainly recommend this place for date night or even a get together with 2 or 3 couples at the larger tables.
Atmosphere is great service good food a little high but good. Great place to meet small groups. Nice fireplace ands soft seating. Had nice background live music as well.

It was our Anniversary, I had asked to have a booth but was seated at a table, there were many booths open the entire dinner, I also had requested a dessert to start with on the table, or something or anything special that I could have put out and pay for on the table when we got there, that was also not done! Disappointing when you put in requests and they are ignored!
Energetic because of live music - made it hard to talk and hear. Music was good though.

We were here on a quiet Saturday November night prior to a Guthrie play. The location was the main reason we selected this restaurant, but we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality, originality, presentation, and options for cocktails, appetizers, main courses and dessert. Service was outstanding and the ambience was really cool. This restaurant and should be much busier than it was that night. We will definitely be back.
I had high expectations because I have seen a performance in the beautiful lounge before and looked at the menu and pricing for food ahead of time. I was disappointed in the service and starters, Brussels sprouts were much too large and raw, tough to cut with a butter knife, and glaze was extremely sweet. My beet salad was doused with too much balsamic and salmon was a bit over done. Cocktails and bartender - great! Entertainment, Erica West, was amazing and sound was perfect (not too loud so we could hear all instrumentation and vocals but enjoy a conversation). I would recommend UMBRA for entertainment and cocktails, but not for the food.
Food and service were excellent! Specialty drinks were fun!

We made breakfast reservations on Opentable. The buffet looks spectacular..However this is not a hotel that welcomes outsiders for breakfast. No host.. All buffet. No menu on open table. It caters to guests only in the morning. Ate in neighborhood.. weird.
We sincerely apologize for the confusion on our buffet. We do have a spectacular buffet every morning for both hotel and outside guests. The buffet changes daily to ensure it is not the same offerings every day and that may be why there is no breakfast menu online. Umbra is my new favorite restaurant in Minneapolis! I fell in love with the architecture and the ambiance the minute I walked into the building. The food is amazing and the restaurant staff is extremely professional and accommodating.

The food is absolutely wonderful! Everyone in our group of 9 was highly impressed and will definitely be back. The biggest opportunity is to pick up the service time. I had to walk up and ask for server to come take our order and for the bill. Easy fixes. Look forward to visiting again soon.

Attentive service from John. I really enjoyed the fettuccine di mare, and the Pirate Jenny was so so (the Grand Marnier was hardly there). My wife loved the Walleye Cakes. This is a good place to meet up with special friends.
Our new favorite. We went because of curiosity and will go back because of cuisine. Everyone in our party of 7 was totally satisfied.
Absolutely fabulous experience overall. We dined early so it was relatively quiet. The service was awesome and the chef even took the time to come see how our meal was. I had a salad before dinner and my husband had the tomato soup and both were great. We both ordered the lobster special and were not disappointed. The chef bought us the deep fried bread pudding after hearing it was my husband’s birthday and we were celebrating our 25th anniversary. We will definitely be back!

This was our second visit. On the first we were informed after we sat down that they were only doing the bar menu on that Saturday night - so we ended up with flat bread - expecting something more. On our second visit, no one really welcomed us, drinks probably took 15 minutes. We were the only table occupied and there was only one server. We would have purchased a second round of drinks if asked and if delivered in a timely fashion. We asked for bread - and it was delivered ten minutes latter. We then asked for butter - which we received ten minutes later only to then find the bread moldy. The lamb sliders were pretty good, the odd escargots (encapsulated in a mushroom cap with some white sauce on top) were not something any of us would order again. We thought their wine offerings were good. A few more tables were occupied after 8:30. The four of us left agreeing we would not return - that there were many places in the neighborhood far better.

Limited choices on the dinner menu, entrees priced a bit high. Our server, Erin, was courteous and friendly. We really liked the Walleye Cakes, Umbra Sliders. The Artichoke Gratin was too oily. The portion of the Caesar Salad was generous. The Pommes Frites was a bit salty. My wife enjoyed her Creamed Spinach dish. All the foods came out in large/oversize serving and could not all fit on our small square table!!! Would we come back? Maybe a there are many other options in the neighborhood.

Lack of brunch food at 11:30, mediocre food selection, overpriced and no complimentary dessert for birthday. I won’t be back. Just not worth the $155+ dollar Check. There’s way too many options around to waste my money and time to go go back.

We were disappointed with the food. The bread was hard and dry and the mussels were so heavily sauced that you couldn’t taste them. The tartar was flavorless and wet. Our duck breast was good but the sauce needed more body to it.
