Umaya elevates the typical 'beer garden' concept with hard-to-find Asian dishes. Our menu promotes friends, coworkers, family to enjoy their time together. We carry a wide array of Asian beer & Japanese Whiskey, complimenting the tranquility of the restaurant. The menu will feature seasonal highlights; however, the time-honored staples will always be available. ‘Umaya’ directly translates to a ‘place that tastes good’ in Japanese; it is a place where you can go

Staff were incredible. Running late due to the chaos in region from protestors and pandemic. They all went above and beyond. Look forward to revisiting once we have some normalcy in the world
Great sushi!!!
Really good
food. Shrimp Tempura and fried rice arr amazing
Overall, the food was mostly bland and less than remarkable. That's not to say it was bad, but of the three in our party, none were impressed enough, based on the meals we ate, to return.
We were visitors from Denver CO this weekend and we loved everything about Umaya!! The food was excellent and the hostess was so gracious and apologetic for the circumstances of COVID. Wish th3 local government woukd get it together and stop taking advantage of these small businesses.. its disappointing to see these small business owners struggle to keep their business going. Inwould highly recommend supporting your small businesses.saying prayers 🙏🏼💜💜💜
Tense time in DC, but the food and service was phenomenal! Very COVID-safe and worth the price. :) Shōyu ramen was amazing and the nigiri and tempura were 10/10. Definitely coming back soon!
Great food and service, as well as a variety of options. I will be going back in the future.
I felt very safe dining inside as the patio doors were open, and they took temperatures upon arrival as well as ensured all who entered got a squirt of hand sanitizer. The sushi was decent and ramen was okay. My friend had the shrimp rice bowl and said it wasn't very seasoned, but I didn't try it myself. It was an average meal, might eat here again if I was starving and in the area, but wouldn't seek it out. I would consider this pretty americanized Japanese food.
I took my date here. I wanted to show her some Japanese food. We loved the skewers.
During the pandemic, the hostess took our temperature and gave use hand sanitizers when she greeted us. Price is a bit up, but it was a nice place for a date.
Sushi was particularly fresh and tasty. Also squared sea bass great. Octopus was tough though. Will definitely return.
Food and services was great. Noisy, chilly and ambience is not great....
The servers were attentive and super friendly
Great place for sushi.
Definitely going back soon.
Great food and service !! Been coming here since they open. Never disappointed. They are doing really well maintaining table distance and regulations.
Food took a while to arrive. Sushi was nothing to write home about. Server was friendly and attentive.
Three times now we've made reservations and arrived to find no one there and restaurant not open. Food on the expensive side and waitress was rude.
Great sushi options and friendly staff.
Late night find and it was excellent! Terrific service and the food was amazing, particularly the spare ribs. Can't wait to go back.
Interesting cocktails. Not my favorite but the food was fantastic!
I enjoyed everything: food, service, ambiance and drinks. The skewered items were better than the sushi to me. I will definitely go back.
I went here for my birthday and the server was very nice! She even brought out mochi with Candles in it.
Food was amazing, good ambience
Love it there, would come back! Please was clean And quiet
Food and service were really great but it was not in the most fun location and lots of passerby’s came in and out, which disrupted our meal and conversation a bit.
It was a great time
We were greeted by Jennifer… And she was fantastic. She really made us feel welcome and safe.
We were seated immediately, but the only server took forever to take our order. However, we did get our food pretty quickly. The volcano roll and wagyu skewers left much to be desired but the overall food and experience were decent.
Great diversity offered. Not traditional sushi and sashimi Great service
a lot of choices for robatayaki, which is good. I tried 5 kinds of robatayaki and everything just perfect! The whole grilled squid also unbeatable! Lastly, the spicy miso ramen also pretty tasty!
Awesome experience. Our server, Antonio was awesome!
COVID-19 update: Umaya has been Super on point during this pandemic. Proper temperature check before sitting. Sanitizer available all over the dining area. All staff wearing mask. All the customers were siting 6 feet apart. So far, this is one of the restaurant doing best for following the guidelines. We dine here frequently. For sure we will be back again !!
Well with the current pandemic and finally some restaurants are opening back up. We had to come back to our favorite place. Victor was back in action, he still remembers our go to cocktails. They’ve added some new items and we tried them all, along with our sushi/sashimi platters with some very well recommended sake.
They practiced social distancing, floor stickers in place, tables closed to main ring distance, face masks and gloves worn by everyone inside and they provided us with hand sanitizer. Along with their contactless menu.
Flavors are still on point and I can’t get enough of my lamb chops and she can’t get enough of her sushi.
Needless to say, you will feel safe and comfortable at Umaya!
This place has never failed me even during pandemic, foods were up standard as usual. The employees were very careful and doing their best to protect customer.
Overall I really enjoyed our dinner and will continue to patronize this venue.
This is hands down one of the best sushi restaurant in DC area ! Their food is very reasonably priced with our sacrificing the quality. Even with COVID-19, they still maintaining their usual standard. Very impressive !! For sure will be back soon for the support.
So glad I can be back at Umaya for a meal. Food is great, Friendly Service and what else can you ask during this tough time !!! Will for sure always support this local business!!!
It was great and the service was amazing
Wonderful service
Rarely have I given a negative review of a restaurant but Umaya made sure that I did. The server disappeared on us for a time, the first glass of wine was awful, the crab salad had tons of shell in it, the Hamachi was not only not fresh but served at room temperature like it had sat out all night, and the rolls were simply bad. I hope it was just an off night for them but it definitely ruined a night of vacation for us!
Honestly this is very subpar sushi. Service was fast and restaurant nice and clean though.
I like autum sushi roll there , it’s has deepfried spicy tuna wrapped with seaweed inside, on top with sliced tune and avocados , It’s very delicious autum sushi at roll
