Umami Burger - Santa Monica
Stu is the best! we live local and he always takes wonderful care anytime we come in!
The food was amazing! We loved the Impossible burger, so good! We also received an outstanding service from Kiara! Thank you again
Food great but two mistakes on the order for 4 people (were fixed promptly) but didn’t impress
For a place that specializes in burgers- the burger was just ok, the patty to small and completely overpriced. I was disappointed.
Excellents burgers même pour ceux qui n'aiment pas trop cela d'habitude. Serveur très sympa.
Waitress seemed to care less that we were there to eat, and seemed annoyed by our presence. Food was ok but nothing to write home about.
Amazing amazing I mean amazing veggie burger. 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
The worst on every level. Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 8:00 pm. Waiter never around. Totally missing in action. Had to get up and walk to the bar to get my drink filled. The establishment was not busy and there several empty tables.
The meat in the burger is tasteless, turned me off looking at a it, and was overwhelmed in taste by Velveeta-type yellow cheese. Horrible. The fries and sweet potato fries were good, as were the Brussels sprouts and the “UFO” dessert. We had the “Dine L.A.” menu. I will NEVER go back. I urge folks to go to PONO BURGER for a quality burger. NOT UMAMI.
We arrived at Umami hoping to participate in their DINELA menu for July 2019. However, upon our arrival, the hostess said "Dine-what?" We explained what DineLA was and she said she'd talk to her manager. She never did talk to a manager, I think, since no one ever came over to talk to us, except for a waiter. We told him we wanted to do DineLA, and he said "Oh, we're not doing that this year." We showed him the DineLA website with the Umami Burger DineLA Menu, and he said "Uh, let me go talk to the manager." Then he disappeared and no one came to talk to us. We waited about ten minutes, and then we got up and left. Went to another restaurant nearby where they had DineLA and had a very nice time. This whole incident indicated to us that the management at this location is not on the ball. They should have been prepared for DineLA, and when they say "We're going to talk to a manager," they should actually talk to a manager and have someone come over and talk to the customers in question. Maybe they weren't doing DINELA and the website was in error, but someone should have come talked to us a lot sooner if so. As it was, we were sitting there for a LONG time, trying to be patient, and no one ever came back to us. Their water was very nice though. So that's the food rating I gave.
Funky place and popular at weekends so be sure to book. The vegetarian "Impossible burger" is amazing, as are the skinny fries
Server had a hard time keeping up with our large party (14 people) even though we had a reservation. We were able to split the table into two tabs (rather than dividing the final check in two) but it was difficult for the server to manage. One half of the table was never bused after our main meal and we ended up putting the dirty dishes on the bar ourselves. Infrequent visits back to check on drink orders, even though the restaurant was not full.
Calamari and asparagus were excellent. Ahi "burger" was very good. Others at my table said the beef burgers were nothing special. Was hoping for more.
Food was average. Overpriced. Small portions. Bad music.
Best burger experience ever! Cuisine was fresh, unique and flavorful. The staff was attentive and kind. Will return on our next visit to Santa Monica!
The impossible vegan bbq is amazing.
I ordered the ultimate bacon burger, and it tasted amazing! I also recommend their Umami Heat cocktail.
We enjoyed a few sliders, burgers, and a variety of truffle fries. We were seated quickly, but took some time to be seen for drinks. Once our drink and appetizer order was taken, it did take quite a while to receive the appetizer so we were getting a bit hangry. We eventually got our food and the server was rather attentive afterwards.
Worth the price of the burger. On the expensive end when you think of it being a burger house, but the food is good, both the burgers and all the appetizers.
Delicious vegan options as usual I wish they still carried the "get up offa that brown" beer. That was an awesome pairing.
We came here for my birthday lunch with coworkers and overall it was a pretty good experience. They already had a large table set up for us and the service was consistent and attentive. We ordered the chicken lollipops, tempura asparagus and brussel sprouts to share and they were all pretty fantastic. For the main course, I ordered the Impossible truffleburger and was a little disappointed. The bun was a little hard and not that tasty and I decided I much prefer real beef over the fake kind. I also couldn't really taste much of the truffle flavor. The thin fries were excellent but the sweet potato fries were sugared with cinnamon and tasted like churros (which are fine but not your traditional sweet potato fry). I would still come again and order a regular burger off the menu.
The food was good but the atmosphere and service were mediocre at best.
Been here a few times, and each time our experience gets worse and worse :( Considering the location of this Umami, you'd think they'd have heaps of staff working both the front of house, and kitchen but NO!
When we checked-in, the greeter was nice enough, but showed us to a table that was 2 short of our party size, as we walked past dirty tables, and impatient customers.
We were forced to stand around for 5 minutes, while another table was found, finally we were seated at an appropriate table our server was extremely over the top in friendliness, probably in an attempt to hide how crap the service is.
Our burgers were on their way to the table, when one of the severs dropped a couple of then on the floor, making a huge scene - who cares, it happens. But then our waiter came back with an extra glass of water (we'd hardly touched our original waters), as he thought that'd help the situation.
Water?! For dropping half of our food on the floor?! No fries, or comp burger?! Just a glass of half ice to water?! Ok then... When our food did actually arrive, 2 of the burgers, and the fries were room temperature - but we were in a bit of a hurry, so didn't complain.
The fries were also missing the famed umami ketchup, and didn't arrive when initially asked about. Our waiter then brought 2 sides of ketchup, which was extremely wasteful, as we'd almost finished them by the time we got ketchup.
At the end of the meal, the obligatory question about the quality meal was asked, we said very clearly that we were abhorred by the lack of a proper staff, dirtiness of tables, and no tp - we were never going to return! At this point, an opportunity for reconciliation had arisen for the waiter, but nothing, nothing came to mind but "Oh, uh, sorry..." as if no one had ever given him bad news in his life.
We mean it, won't be back. And we love Umamai. Sad.
Burgers and fries are excellent. On both occasions I have visited, service has been sub-par.
Unfortunately, for the amount that you pay, it’s not worth it.
Umami used to be awesome. HiHo cheeseburger is much better
The service was excellent! The burgers are amazing and the sides pleased us all. I will definitely be coming back the next time I am in town.
Food was great, service not so much. Had to wait 20 min even though we had a reservation. Took 15 min to get a beer.
Good spot for a gourmet burger with friends -- I'm a huge fan of their truffle burger
We were ten mins late so our reservation was not held and we had to wait :30 for a table when the host said it would be :10.
The order came out wrong twice and the fries and burgers were lukewarm when they arrived.
Not quite as good as usual. My food was not very hot. The server told us in advance he would only split the bill 4 ways (a pain between 7 of us) but forgot to say he didn’t want us to include tip, then tried to get us to redo it. Got fixed in the end but a bit of a stressful end to an otherwise nice evening.
I normally would have a regular beef burger, but I decided to try the Impossible Umami Truffle Burger - OMG !Delicious!
Service was not good - they forgot a lot of dishes. Food is expensive for what you get. Will not return.
Umami Burger was good I always enjoy the food there. The only thing I wish they would change are the burger sizes, I would gladly pay more if it meant that the burger can actually be filling.
New management seems to have made things slower:(
Lots of options in tasty burgers (both meat and vegan) in a friendly setting. The servers were all cheerful and pleasant. Happy hour prices make the spicy margaritas taste even better!
the wing pops were the yummiest!
We went for DineLA dinner. Huge helpings of food. Really enjoyed the Umami burger and Impossible (meatless) burger. UFO dessert very good. Would not order Truffle Fries (with cheese) or Buffalo Chicken Wings (very strong vinegar and mustard sauce) though liked BBQ version. Excellent service. Went earlier as quieter.
We sat on the table for about 20 minutes without even getting a glass of water. It was not that busy, food was good but I would not go back there because of the service.
The very tall gentleman at the desk was amazing in every way. He helped me with the parking and genuinely cared about me being by myself celebrating my birthday .
The food was good but came out a bit lukewarm.
We booked through DineLA and open table. The noise level inside was way up there so we opted to sit in the patio. It was a choice of loud or cold. We chose cold. The outdoor heaters were out of propane (really?) and the overhead fan "wouldn't turn off". My impossible burger was okay. The bun seemed stale on the outside and toasted on the inside. My husband enjoyed his chicken sandwich. There is NO hot coffee or tea. I will not return. The only bright spot was Kevin our server.
Consistently good burgers. Love that they have the impossible burger available. And are quite kid friendly.
