When we arrived, the computer system was down so we couldn’t check in via Open Table and had to wait to be called in. No big deal and when we sat, our server was super friendly. Soon the music went on and was extremely loud but eventually was turned down. After we ordered, we waited over an hour for our food even tho everyone who arrived after us was served. The host was very kind to check on the kitchen and reported back that the staff was overwhelmed that night and that our meal would be comped. We could totally empathize with a restaurant having a bad night and they resolved the issue in such a nice way. So even tho it was unpleasant, they did the customers right in the end.
Food was good. Waitress was nice enough but mostly clueless. Didn’t know they were out of alcohol, shakes, cakes. My main course came out 20 mins after my sisters did. She was reluctant to eat while I didn’t have anything so hers ended up getting cold. Waitress came to ask what I’d ordered 10 mins after I asked where my food was. When she brought the bill back for me to sign she WAITED FOR ME to fill out the tip & sign it. Overall service was very disappointing.
This had to be the worst service I have ever experienced. Made a reservation for 6:30, got seated at 7. Not a single server gave us the time of day, once seated, until 7:20. And they had 5 working that night, so it isn't like they didn't have enough. They all just seemed to be running around but not really doing anything. Not taking orders. Not waiting on tables. Not bussing tables once the diners left. Finally the server took our order and said it would be another 45 minutes! We were going to the show next door, which started at 8 so asked them to rush it. They did and we were on time for the show, but the burger was nothing special. To spend $30. for a burger, with no sides, and glass of wine, with horrible service was a joke. I will not go there again.
This place is just OK. Definitely not worth the prices charged for their food and drink. I would rather patronize local taco trucks in the area (and more modest restaurants) to obtain similar fare. Service was very poor, and the food was definitely not worth the wait. Take out business completely overwhelmed what little wait and kitchen staff were available to serve guests inside the restaurant. Will not be returning.
Just in town for a Laker Game!
Totally amazing service. Under new management. Food was spot on. They are working to get their bar back up to speed, so give Umami a chance if you're craving a solid burger before a show.
I was very disappointed with my order. I have been going to the pasadena location previously for years until it closed a while back. I was eager to try my favorite Truffle burger once again.
I got the Truffle burger and Truffle fries and I it was a complete let down. My order had no Truffle in it! They must have new ownership or something because it's not the same Truffle burger that made them famous. Don't waste your money and go somewhere else.
The burgers were cold and had no flavor at all
No one at the door to greet you where to go, how to order made reservations, told it was take out only. What is the point of reservation then.
Last minute change of plan.
A bit of a mix up because all tables were open so you didn’t even need a reservation. We were seated then left for 15-20 mins before we flagged someone down to ATLEAST order drinks.
They should just close down if they don’t want customers. Wouldn’t honor the reservation as they decided to close early. How hard is it to go online and edit your reservation availability? Food was cold and disgusting to go.
Not very attentive or engaging
Ambiance was amazing. Unfortunately the burgers were not brought out hot and, our sides were brought after the fact.
Burgers we a bit cold and the flavors therefore not vibrant. A very disappointing burger from a brand that is usually delicious. Fries were average. Atmosphere was a bit cold and stark. Good service. And a nice martini!
Great location for several downtown theaters. The food was delicious as usual and the service was terrific.
Delicious burgers and good beer! Excellent service. Try the dessert special - tempura, chocolate, ice cream YUM!
Great food. Good decor. Good for kids. Convenience location to theater.
Delicious food. Nice selection at the bar.
Umami burger is the BEST!!!! Love, love LOVE the Impossible burger!!! and the Tempura asparagus! YUM! This location is the perfect spot to catch a bite before a concert at the Ace or the Orpheum!
Our server, Sally, was very attentive and friendly and Umami Burger is conveniently located next to the Orpheum Theatre. That's almost where the positive comments end. The ambiance resembles an abandoned warehouse being converted to a restaurant with as little money spent as possible on atmosphere. It is about as loud as a restaurant can get, making it very difficult and frustrating to try to carry on a conversation. The chicken "club" sandwich was small and overpriced. The fries had a metallic taste. Oh, yes, one more positive to end with: The green iced tea was good and refills were free.
Delicious food and drinks
Tempura asparagus is a great and love the impossible burger!
I love Umami burger and since there isn't one near me in Long Beach, I decided to eat here because it's right next to the Orpheum and I had a concert to attend. Nice location, a good amount of noise, but not too bad. They need to learn how to lettuce wrap their burgers if they are going to offer this on the menu. Instead I got my truffle burger with a piece of lettuce on the bottom and on top and I basically had to cut it with a fork and knife - so more of a salad than a "burger". Great flavor anyway. Love the brussel sprouts, but they are just a bit too sweet.
Impossible Meat sliders were good, but tiny. The straight edges makes them seem less beef-like. Pretty expensive for lunch - $66 for 3 people. Especially $7 for small bottle of cold-brew coffee.
My Classic Impossible Cheeseburger was amazing! You would NEVER know it wasn’t meat, my friends truffle burger was as good as she remembered. Only complaint, I ordered onion rings with our drink orders and they never came and I asked about them twice. When our food was delivered I asked again and they clearly had forgotten. I finally got them after the burgers.
Food was great and waiter very pleasant.
Went back after the show for a drink and waiter was very pleasant.
We came with a party of 12 at 5:30 on a Saturday night, and it was great. We were seated right away, and the service was great. It wasn't super busy in there, which we appreciated. We enjoyed the food and the drinks, and would definitely go there again.
Excellent quality food, and it arrived quickly. Good value for the money as the portions are good. Service was great.
When I got there, there were several spaces at the bar open. I sat down and the bar proceeded to fill up.I asked for a menu and ordered a drink. 20 minutes later I still hadn't received my drink, though several adjacent customers had. And the Server was taking their food orders when they had been there 5 minutes. I was not happy. I ordered tempura Onion Rings, which were so greasy I ate only 3. My burger was greasy too. I ended up getting sick from that meal, and am still recovering from it 3 days later
We love this place! The ambiance is lively. Great people place. The servers are super friendly. “Impossible” burgers to die for, but even better — the onion rings! We couldn’t stand it and ordered a second dish. The restaurant is smack downtown on Broadway next door to the Orpheum Theater. Try it out and have fun!
The ketchup with the fries was outstanding and the fried cookie with ice cream dessert was amazing!!! It took a bit long to get our food once we ordered but it was still good!
The truffle vegan burger is absolutely delicious. Looking forward to my next one.
Really cold beer! Great, friendly service! Tasty fish taco and slider appetizers! Great beer choices! My friend loved the burger without the bun!
Mediocre food and service. There are better locations than this one!
Whole place sucked
Took 20 minutes for drinks to arrive
Food was lousy
Service was quite slow. We were going to a concert and allowed ourselves 1.5 hours so we didn’t need to rush. We were barely able to order two rounds of drinks. We would’ve ordered more if we could’ve found our waiter. At the end we were rushing to make the concert. Everyone was perfectly nice so perhaps the waiter was overwhelmed and understaffed? The food is great and I went to Umami at the Grove to take my kids for lunch and it was great.
Had the truffle burger with maple bacon sweet potato fries. Both were very good. We were seeing a concert at the Orpheum and was so happy to find out the venue was next door. Service was good. Would highly recommend,
Food was DELICIOUS and service was GREAT! Happy hour was totally worth it
Hip and well designed restaurant. Unfortunately the host was absolutely lost. I was by myself and he said they don't have tables for 1. He basically ignored the fact that I had a reservation and sat next to the door for at least 20min waiting for a seat. I had to suggest myself that I will grab a seat at the bar whenever someone leaves.
The rest of the staff was very friendly and professional.
I had the impossible burger, it was okay, definitely not amazing. Would most likely not have this one again.
Overall I'd say the place is a bit overrated. I expected to be more wow'd by the food.
