Great neighborhood spot, good atmosphere, food, and service! The asparagus roll dinner was awesome!
Great food and service.
The place is very nice. Clean, classy and great food. It’s mostly ramen and sushi . Very good it’s a must try.
Always great at this place! No complaints!
The sushi was not fresh at all. My husband and I could take more than two bites of the four roles we ordered. There was even discoloring in the salmon that was dark.
Tbis was my first time eating at Umai and it was absolutely wonderful! The food and atmosphere were top notcb and totally worth the expenses!
The food was alright; not good enough for the price...
Umai is my go-to spot for Japanese food. Their menu has a ton of variety if you're not feeling sushi. Good quality for the price and it's nice that they have 2 locations.
Excellent sushi and a nice selection of other Japanese dishes. Not everyone in my family likes sushi so I needed to find a restaurant with a broader menu and Umai was perfect, we had a dinner group of 6 people and everyone loved their food.
i feel the quality of food is not as good as past. The rice tastes hard and the pork tastes dry.
Maybe i will go to the main store in downtown next time.
Great udon curry noodle with beef!!! Wow! So good!!! And the white truffle sushi roll was to die for as was the chicago roll! We will for sure be back,
Big Disappointment... went on a strong recommendation, but was totally disappointed by the quality of the sashimi... the tuna color was not right, so lifeless. I know my sashimi. Was it because it was a Sunday? I am too scared to try again.
The Nabeyaki udon that my mother ordered was fine. Standard fare. But why on earth do they put in two kinds of eggs, the sushi egg tamako AS WELL as the poached Japanese egg? I can only think of them as fillers for lack of other ingredients.
Not sure why this place has such high ratings...
I love this place! Amazing udon and really great curry... brought back mems of being in Tokyo.
NOT VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY!! A couple of appetizers, and a couple of rolls are about your only options. Service was friendly but slow. It took 10 minutes before anyone said hello to us.
Never entered my opentable reservation just sat us at an open table. After the fact I got an email I skipped out on my reservation.
Top 5 best sushi restaurants in Chicago! Delisious!
I was disappointed in my whole experience. They seemed to changed a few items on the menu. I ordered a mojito and it was not good one at this location. They used to have a ginger beer that was not alcholic now it is. The ginger ale is nothing special. The food was not the best all around.
Very comfy, beautiful, and clean environment. The staff were friendly. The food was really good! I h the d the wings which were delicious and Ramen, which was okay (It was my first time). Overall, great experience
We waited for 25 minutes, and nobody had even come to take our drink order, so we left. It seemed other tables were also waiting for service.
Been coming here since it first opened and it seems to be that they're relying too much on their success at the expense of service and food.
The meals never seem to come out together which leaves for an awkward period of time between you and your guests. Should you eat or wait? How long is the wait? It seemed way too long! Your food gets cold while there's is not even at the table.
The staff sort or "throws" the food/beverages at you, and there's spillage on the table. Fortunately they don't care and don't bother to clean it up unless you ask. We all requested hot tea (it was January) and the microwaved cups were so hot you couldn't touch them for several minutes, and had to wrap a napkin around them to even touch. The cups were hotter than the tea unfortunately.
As for the food, it seems hastily put together. Had the dynamite roll, and the seaweed was old and couldn't bite into it; more like stringy. The seafood quality was also lacking as you can see they had to chop it up rather than have premium slices. The staff was in a rush to have you finish, but then they're no where to be found if you need something like more ginger or water, or another beverage.
Sorry, but I will not be going back unless it's a last resort.
Great setting , very good experience, loved the decor
Umai is a very special experience. Their sushi, sashimi, seaweed salad are unusual as to taste and presentation. Never had seaweed salad so tasty and satisfying. Friendly presentation.
Umai is enjoyable for many reasons: comfortable, friendly and competent service among others. The main reason we enjoyed it so much was the creative and over-the-top food that was served.
Have been to UMAI in Printer's Row. The Restaurant on Fullerton was also nice. The same menu. Had the Sukiyaki which was delicious. Not cooked at your table but piping hot. Was a little disappointed that entrees arrived before sushi because sushi chef was very busy.
Great tasting food. Really does a great job on a variety of Japanese dishes. The Ramen and Sushi are off the hook, Green Tea Creme Brûlée was out of this world.
Great neighborhood restaurants! Love their japanese classics such as gyu don, udon and set meals with rice!
Great spot for sushi. You can definitely find cheaper options in the area, but the sushi is amazing.
Glad Umai opened another location in one of my favorite Chicago neighborhoods! Solid food, appreciated the clean and unique interior design- will be coming back again!
The service was slow and horrible. Luckily the food and drinks were amazing. I prefer this locations over the one on Clark, minus the slow service. There was really no excuse bc it wasn't crowded. Nevertheless, the food was bomb....I'll go back just because I like to eat and drink and they satisfied both needs.
Top three sushi restaurant in Chicago. Excellent. Fullerton location.
The food is always superb here. I get delivery from them, but I try to dine in too. The staff are very friendly and the service is very quick.
Great location, food, and staff! The food is always delicious and fresh!
Have been a fan of Umai on South Clark for years, we recently discovered their restaurant on Fullerton and enjoyed it just as much. The ambience doesn't match the original, but the food was superb! An unknown gem. No waiting on a Saturday night!
Food was great as always! I love the Chicago and Mexicana rolls.
Great food and great service. Denifitely ordering from, and going to this place again.
Great sushi and at a great value. They have a lot of other option as well if someone in your party doesn't like sushi.
Very good restaurant. Fresh. Delicious. Beautiful space.
I really like the Umai restaurant in the south loop and because I was on the north side, thought I'd try this one. We arrived a few minutes past our 9:30 reservation, closer to 9:40. The service stops at 10:15 so we were well before that hour. The staff was cleaning and seemingly more concerned with closing than with us as customers. After a few minutes, our server put aside those tasks and took our order. Almost immediately our tempura arrived, barely done but okay, and then within a minute, our sushi. It was fine but because the place was almost empty, and the service so rushed, not a pleasant dining experience.
We had nice family dinner in quiet atmosphere when you can actually have a conversation. I was please by the size of the table - large, fit all dishes for 5 people without crowding the space. New venue, nicely done with good taste. Spacious. Food was good.
Once the food was delivered, our server didn't stop by our table again until after we were finished.
