Chef Telmo's Portuguese menu is inspired and approachable, with an eye toward traditional old world flavors and a nod to local California cuisine.
As some of the earliest European explorers, Portuguese expeditions to lands such as India, China, Japan, North Africa and Brazil have influenced and shaped the nation’s cuisine as we know it today.
With a balance of Mediterranean and exotic flavors, Portuguese food delivers a unique and tasty dining experience

We arrived on time but were sat down about 20 minutes later since the diners that had our table hadn't finished. Not a major issue and they comped us a drink to make up for it, but didn't set a great first impression and dampened the mood a bit.
Food was generally excellent, with the braised short rib and bacalhau croquettes being highlights. The octopus & black eyed peas appetizer and arroz de marisco were less impressive. We loved the sparkling Portuguese wines.
Service and hospitality were very good.
It was a lively spot. Maybe we weren't used to the din of restaurants after COVID, but if you're expecting a quieter, romantic spot you may not want to dine here on a weekend.
First real foray into Portuguese food and we'll definitely visit again.
If anything, do not buy the wine.
I bought a $68 bottle of wine there, but do you know how much it would be in the store? $13.
I’m not kidding.
A 525% mark up is a little wild. That is absolutely outrageous.
Otherwise, the experience was alright.
It was so delicious and it was so easy going and the staff was so nice and accommodating. We had a wonderful evening.
The food was so delicious I am still thinking about it. I loved our waitress and her hospitality. Can’t wait to go back!!
Superb renditions of Portuguese favorites! Wait staff most accommodating with our questions and requests. Certainly a memorable meal!
I felt with the smell of the restaurant I was in Portugal. They were friendly and good food.
Service wasn't the greatest; we weren't greeted while waiting for our table and the servers weren't knowledgeable about the menu. Ambience was also underwhelming. Price for the pre-fix 4 course menu was a good deal - the food was good, not great.
Service was great. They explained everything. Brought the dishes as we requested. Food was excellent.
Great food , unique recipies, great service. Wonderful wines
I’ve been to this restaurant many times and love it! Wonderful interesting food, nice room, good people. Terrific place for a special get together or just a glass of wine and a bite at the bar
First time dining at Uma Casa, the bacalhau a Gomes de Sa was amazing. Will be back!
Fantastic place, food and atmosphere
The service here is first rate. From the front desk to the bartender to our server. We started with some sangria at the bar, which was very nice. Then on to our table. Our server helped with a nice choice of a Portuguese white wine. We started with octopus with garbanzos, very nice. Next was sardines, which were grilled and slightly warm. Some thought a little too fishy, but I enjoyed them. Then on to the Gambas, which were the best app to start...nice and spicy shrimp. Then we got the Bacalau, which had a slight vegetal flavor, which put me off a little. The cod itself was good. We finished with Arroz Meriscos. Nice seafood with rice, but not a lot of punch to it. Overall pretty good. Pricey, but that's SF.
Everything that we tried was excellent. Maybe a little bit overpriced (as the majority of restaurants in SF)
Food and drinks were amazing! Noise level was high. Server was nice but service was slow.
Roast Chicken was dry... which was very disappointing, because it is one of our favorite dishes. The Prixe Fix menu was great though, and a great value. Pork/Clams and codfish fritters delicious! Daniel
Wonderful place! Arroz de marisco deserves praise!
Food was authentic and excellent, service great. when the restaurant was full, very hard to hear conversation. Somewhat annoying. Overall, we loved the dining experience except for the noise.
Excellent food, friendly service, but expensive. Most wines 15-18 $ for a not very generous pour.
This was our 2nd time at Uma.
Appetizers and courses were good except for very rubbery clams in a couple dishes. We couldn't eat them so it took away from our main entree experience.
Expensive for what we got. I know this is SF and the cost to run a business is absurd but come on.
Excellent authentic Portuguese cuisine. I had the bacalhau à Gomes de Sá while my wife had the peixe do dia. Both were excellent. More than we could eat. For dessert we shared a pastel de nata, a Portuguese traditional sweet. All delicious.
Great food and friendly service.
It was very noisy
Server was very pleasant seemed really inexperienced
Food was good but not special
Wouldn’t hurry back
I had heard great things about this place, and all were accurate. Excellent quality of food and service, in a beautiful environment. Look forward to coming back.
Delicious food , staff very friendly, wine list interesting. Have been there three or four times and the food keeps getting better!
I was very disappointed in the service. I've eaten at Uma Casa a few times and this was the worse. We had to wait awhile for our waiter to come to the table upon entering. We found a hair in the appetizer sauce and was told that it would be replaced. there was an apology given but it did not feel sincere--"this has never happened before". We waited at least 10 minutes for the replacement after asking for it a couple of times. We ran out of water and had to ask for more. One of the few saving graces of the evening is that my fish was delicious!
It will be awhile before I return.
The food was excellent. Our waitress explained everything and gave us time between course. We lived if anc plan to go back again
Delicious food and great service! Always a pleasure to eat at Uma Casa
Great tasting food, very original. Ambience and staff very friendly.
The octopus and halibut were amazing. The desert with egg custard was also delicious.
The food was very authentic and tasty. It is a nice quiet neighborhood restaurant.
Their cod dish was great, as was the coconut cake dessert.
Excellent food is my second time and could go every week
Service very attentive
Beautiful meal ! Great service and excellent quality of food on all their dishes
Absolutely wonderful on every level!
One of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. The atmosphere put me in Portugal,
simple but comfortable, with background music not overly loud. The service was outstanding,
server explaining the various dishes and not rushing us. A busboy wiped the table between courses!
The food was perfectly prepared, fresh and delicious, from small plates to large with a selection of
appetizers. The roasted squid was a first for me, and delicious. Corn meal crusted halibut, on a bed
of little greens and a small sweet potato was amazing. We shared all dishes, including beautifully
glazed pork riblets. Chocolate pudding was to die for. And a nice selection of wines from Portugal.
This is a gem of a restaurant, tucked away in outer Noe with fairly easy parking. I can't wait to return!
There were three people in our party of four who had not tried Portuguese cuisine in the past.
They were all willing to try items on the menu that would not necessarily appeal to some people.
Ocopus and sardines were eaten with relish as were other small plates that we ordered. The cheese
plate was the perfect to our authentically Portuguese meal. One of the three cheeses from either
Pico or Terceira was really a treat! All in all, the evening was made a memorable one, thanks to the
fine food and the friendly attentive service from a young woman from Fayal and later a young man
from Pico. Their presence made our Portuguese evening all the more attentive.
Uma Casa was amazing. I’m from New Bedford, Ma. And I grew up with açorean Portuguese food my whole life so this was like a nice little reminder of home.
I loved the restaurant. Super clean, good ambience, great food, good service. We had sardines, polenta, arroz con shellfish. Loved it all. Will return.
Superb. Octopus out of this world.
