   Chose Ula to celebrate our 7 yr Anniversary. Ambiance was really nice. Great customer service. Food was overall pretty good. Bread was tasty. Butter & vinegar/olive oil. Oysters were good. Ahi tuna tartare was ok. Not special. Husband loved Pork Chop. It was good. I tasted it. I ordered the Lamb Shank. It was a little gamey. Didn’t expect that. But added a lit salt & that helped. Cocktails were good. We also had wine & a Port after dinner. We were served a wonderful Tiramisu as a gift for our Anniversary ( husband doesn’t like coffee do I ate the whole thing). It was good. As an aside I often wonder why restaurants don’t ask what people would want for dessert instead of deciding for us. We chose the day & time so we could listen to the entertainment, which was awesome. She was great. And sang our 1st wedding dance for me at my husbands request. Very special evening.

   Overall, the restaurant felt tired, as though we missed its hay day as the Farallon. The food was okay, not great. Some dishes were way better than others. The soup arrived hot. The scallops were small and uninspired. The pork chop was phenomenal. The steak was good, but overall, nothing special. The desert menu felt like someone was forced to make it. Same old crap. Of course, the decor and visual of the restaurant was the highlight of our evening experience. It is set in a beautiful space. The service was good but felt like no one really wanted to be there. The main ingredient missing was love, from the food and the service. There are better high end options in San Francisco for the money. Side note: The food experience does not live up to the epic space.

   The ambiance/decor looks amazing from the pictures, but is probably more of the fake facade you'd expect of a high end restaurant in Disneyland, rather than actual fine dining. The food was adequate for the price. Replacement level. Nothing was bad, except all of the unadvertised cilantro, but nothing was particularly good either. The servers were generally nice, but the place was absolutely dead for an event they charged a show fee. We had two appetizers, a drink, and bailed. The band seemed solid, but played with an enthusiasm reflective of the dead vibe in the place.

   What an awesome place to dine. The ambience is well beyond 5. Suspended jellyfish, massive ceiling glass urchins. In the world of hip and cool Ula is truly unique. Food was great! Our server (without asking) split the beet and burrata salad. The Ula linguine was delicious ( and generously portioned). My friend ordered the petrale sole (great sauce, all gluten free). Very nice and reasonably priced wine list Desert selection looked amazing, but will have to wait for next visit. Many thanks to the staff and management!

    We picked the table we wanted so we were very comfortable, and our waiter Bruce was most helpful and very pleasant. Bruce helped us select a wine which was very good. He also knew we were going to a play and he paced our meal very nicely so we were not in a rush.

    We were very pleased with the decor upon arrival and it only got better from there. The owner guided us to our table and the staff took it over. We love going to restaurants with professional serving staff. The little things go a long ways and our waiter Louis was very attentive yet not overbearing and so was the rest of the staff. We will definitely go back and recommend. The food was very well presented and keep n mind the gratuity is added on already I would only have a problem with this if the service was sub par and it was not. Enjoy!! We sure did !

    This is the space formerly occupied by Farralon. The food is good and plentiful (portions can be shared). But it’s very expensive. Figure $100 per person without drinks. Service was outstanding but the place was basically empty.

    I was happy to see that ULA retained the decor from the former Farallon Restaurant that previously occupied this space. A unique and welcoming ambience, the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Service was efficient and friendly. I would definitely return for dinner and drinks next time I am in the city.

    I would never eat here again, despite the excellent food, very good service, and very pleasant ambiance. There is a mandatory--and as best as I could tell, service gratuity added to the bill--as best I can tell without any warning. (To be fair,perhaps it's written somewhere on the menu--I didn't see it.) I am a good, but not extravagant, tipper, but was dismayed to see that a very large, mandatory tip had been added to my bill without, I believe, any prior notice. The tip was somewhat larger than I normally give (between 15-20%,depending on service), but I object to it being taken out of my control. A tip should be an expression of gratitude from the customer to the waiter, for having received good service. In fact,the service we received was quite good and I would have tipped nicely --but I still strongly object to the restaurant requiring that I tip and determining the amount. On that basis alone, I would never eat there again, despite the very good quality of the food etc.

    A traditional San Francisco restaurant with an advertised French Mediterranean cruise. While there were some Mediterranean dishes, given the pastas, it seemed more Italian influenced. Not that that’s bad, as the food was del and reasonable for Union Square. They emphasize the cocktails and bar setting, and the cocktail I had was great, the Midnight Manhattan. I went on to a Tuscan red with my main course, the delicious pork chop, with a particularly great caramelized onion accompaniment. The appetizers were the deconstructed prawn cocktail and chicken kebab. Both are recommended, but the pork chop was exceptionally well executed, safely cooked through, but still juicy. I particularly commend my old-school waiter who was friendly and attentive, always endorsing my choices. Dessert was the bread pudding accompanied by Brandy Alexander. Recommended for both visitors and SF residents.

    Date: June 30th. We used to go to this restaurant a lot when it was the Faralon. There was no acknowledgment of our anniversary, even though they were aware when the reservation was made. We arrived during happy hour so the hostess gave us happy hour menus along with regular menus to order from, when the waiter came to greet us he took the happy hour menu away. We ordered a couple drinks and an appetizer that were on the happy hour along with our meal. Waiter never came by to ask how our meal was. We said no to dessert and nothing else was offered other than we could stay as long as we want yet our drink glasses were empty. We had to ask and wait a bit for the bill. When the bill did arrive it did not reflect the happy hour pricing. The waiter who had been there since they opened (6 months ago) said he wasn’t sure if he could adjust the bill. When he did come back with the adjusted bill, he apologized for the issue but the way he did it was with denials he looked guilty as hell lying to us. We always start a restaurant service with a 20% tip that can go up or down depending on service. This place adds automatically a 20% tip to the bill (which we are ok with if the service is warranted). This server (Bruce, I asked what his name was 1/2 way through the meal cause he never introduced himself) gave me the gut feeling that he was only interested in getting the most $$$ out of us since it was a mandatory 20% tip. I totally get service is slower these days but the way the service was only warranted a 10-15% tip for a place that was not busy at all! There is absolutely no insensitive for a server to earn the 20% when 20% is mandated. Because of this experience, we will give this restaurant just one more opportunity cause the food was good. We visit SF several times a year, this trip for 2 weeks, ate at a lot of restaurants with and without the mandatory 20% where service was great and had no problem with giving 20% or more tip. Guess we will see if the service improves.

    Ula is a GORGEOUS restaurant with fantastical nautical design from the famed Pat Kuleto back when it was Farallon. Applaud to new ownership for keeping the original design intact. However, both service and food could be more polished. Our waiter was not very warm nor welcoming and we had to wait a very long time between our appetizers and entrees as well as for paying our check. Food was plated nicely but flavors were lacking balance. My Roasted Pork Chop was overcooked and dry, the accompanying Truffle Polenta had no discernible fragrance of Truffle, and the Dried Fruit Compote had a strange taste. The Tuscan style Seafood Stew was abundant in Seafood but tasted too salty. The 12-hour Slow Braised Lamb Shank was ordinary. Only the Grilled Atlantic Diver Scallops were delicious but a bit too skimpy in portion. Ula just needs a better chef and it will be a dining destination once again.

    A unique experience with the decor. All the dishes but the tuna tartare were flavorful. A bit pricey if you don’t mind that kind of thing. Including tip, a few drinks and some apps were $320 for 2 people

    The hostess who greeted us was very rude and was not hospitable at all. No words of welcome or greetings as we entered the restaurant. The food took long and the service was at most subpar. Overall, ambiance was unique but the rude hostess ruined our dinner.

    Food was great. We had the prawns and tuna Tarte then the salmon for dinner and the filet steak with green beans and potatoes. 3 different people came to serve us,then never got my drink asked twice. Noone came and asked how's the food u need anything. And this guy who works there kept telling to people outside where food comes out. Our table faced another table. So yeah if we didn't sit in the cuts maybe we would have gotten better service. Won't go again to try 209¢ was too much for little servings

    the Bread was great! I love that it was served with both butter and oil/balsamic with roasted garlic! My wine was good, the bread pudding was yummy, and the service was attentive. However- the entrees were terrible. My petrale sole with potatoes was absolutely bland and tasteless. I tried adding salt and pepper, which I rarely do, but it didn't help. My husband had the lamb shank, and it was spicy hot like ash, yet somehow not flavorful. Unfortunate. Next time I will go and sit at the lovely bar and just have bread and wine!

    I use to Like this restaurant, I think their change chef, the Scalops went horrible the pork chop was bad. Scallops it's old not fresh. Horribly wrong. What happens? To the owner you should change the chef, pls the quality become horrible.

    Food was excellent, service was perfect. The Tuscan stew was very tasty, and the sole was amazing- perfect sear outside and moist and tender inside. Bruce was a great waiter- definitely recommend this restaurant.
