Opening May 2025, Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse, helmed by Chef Michael Lewis, is where Japanese Soul Food meets American BBQ. Located on the riverfront in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the restaurant features a large central bar, a beautiful waterfront terrace and wood-fired smoker.

Enjoy dishes like Sliced Hamachi with Serrano and Fresh Herbs, Pork + Shiitake Mushroom Gyoza with black pepper ponzu, Grilled Tiger Prawn with lemon-ginger butter and Smoked Pastrami Short Rib. The full center bar features signature and seasonal cocktails, sake, wine and beer. Happy Hour specials and Sunday Brunch will be offered.

I have read about this restaurant opening for months and finally it did. We had eaten at Michael Lewis's former restaurant KYU in Miami and loved it. We had theater in Ft Lauderdale so it gave us an opportunity to try it since we live in Delray. A truly beautiful restaurant in an apartment building on the New River. Saw they have a outdoor seating overlooking the river. Small but innovative menu that lends it to sharing. Food is served as it comes out of the kitchen, no specific order. Tried the SLICED HAMACHI with white ponzu and serrano peppers on top of mixed herbs, VEGETABLE GYOZA with sweet potato, carrot, shiitake, and vegan truffle ponzu , great presentation under a veil. Lastly CRISPY BABY BACK RIBS Yakiniku, which a Japanese style of grilled bite size meats. All were great, can't to return and try some others dishes.

Our waiter, Julian, was excellent. Everything he recommended was delicious and he was very knowledgeable of the menu All the staff were pleasant & friendly and extremely attentive. it is a beautiful restaurant and we will be back soon.

I was really blown away by the quality of the food. We had four dishes and each was top notch. The waiter was on it and service was prompt. Drinks were maybe a little slow but the bar was busy. Location and vibe are good. I’ll definitely be back

We had edamame, cauliflower, and avocado salad (highly recommended), as well as wagyu on sticks. We finished our dinner with coffee and Mango-go-crazy dessert. We were so glad we came. Everything was great, delicious food, and excellent service. Highly recommended.

Great location, food. comes out as ready, so plan to share for the best experience. Everything was tasty and hot. Love that they have a philanthropy quarterly that gets reservation no-show fees, as well as a portion of the drink tab, supporting the philanthropy. Staff was attentive and will return
