Ugo: An Italian Cafe
Ugo is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast specialties include hot sandwiches like the Italian prosciutto with crucolo cheese, eggs, chopped zucchini, carrots and rustic bread. There is also Italian coffee specialties and espresso options like mochas, lattes and authentic cold-pressed coffee blends. These go well with Ugo's many dessert options, such as the light and airy homemade tiramisu.
Ugo used to be good, but sadly the food — and service — have gone downhill. The staff is friendly, but a bit slow and not very attentive. I love bread and I love pizza crust, but serving small pizza dough bites (we received four small bites in a large bread basket) not only looks skimpy, but it is not the kind of bread I want at a nice sit down restaurant. We ordered two pastas — both just okay in terms of flavor — and one of them came out about 5 minutes before the other one. Why they weren't served at the same time, I have no idea, but I wish they had held back one pasta and served them at the same time. Then, we decided to order a scoop of gelato to share and it took almost 10 minutes to get it. The restaurant wasn't very busy, so I'm not sure why the service — or food — wasn't great. With so many good restaurants to choose from, we'll go elsewhere next time.
This was such a disappointing experience. The service was SO slow even though we were one of the few people at the restaurant. Our drinks came 20 minutes after we ordered and they never brought bread even when we asked. There were flies and bees in the restaurant, and it was unnaturally warm. The food was subpar, and definitely over priced. Definitely a shame that such a disappointing restaurant is in the lovely town of Downtown Culver.
Wonderful Italian food and wine. Great service. Love it there!
The food is about as mediocre as you can get. Very bland. The bread was by far the best course
It was 35 minutes before we were served water. They forgot our other drink. It was 45 minutes before we were given terrible looking bread. And employee drink water in front of us in 90° heat while we were waiting 35 minutes for our water. The Ceiling vent was leaking on the table next to us the people were angry and moved, we finally left. Terrible un organized service
I was craving a steak and they did not disappoint with their filet. Great cut of meat and they cooked it to perfection at the medium to mid-well that was requested. I do wish they had an option that allowed you to sub out the sides you get, even if paying the difference. I was forced to get the side of cauliflower and broccoli that I wasn’t going to eat - and also had to pay for a full side of grilled asparagus. My friend had the penne pasta dish and was thrilled with it. Love the gelato selection!
Server forgot to take the sauce off the salmon which was swimming in a horrible cream sauce! Awful food not Italian what because real Italian doesn’t taste like this American pretend Italian!! Needless too pricy for what they serve!! Chicken was not up to par & pizza was awful!! Great to see old friends & that was the good part!! Save your money time & trouble don’t bother!!
Since Ugo remodeled years ago it’s never been good. I return now and then to see if it’s improved but my recent experience tells me to never return. Food is tasteless.
I went on this past Monday night and loved that they offer 50% off from 5 pm until closing, my niece was with me , her first trip to California and really enjoyed herself at Ugo, we had a wonderful time the staff was very accommodating and the food was simple delicious.
The food is really good, if a bit over priced for what you get.
My date and I split the Italian chopped salad and the Quattro Stagioni pizza along with a carafe of Sangrīa. Delicious. Yet the coup de gras was the Espresso Martini. And we were professionally and delightfully served by Irina!
Everything was quite nice, for a weekday meeting! Food quality was good and timely.
Unfortunately some of the worst service I've ever experienced. Everything took forever and the restaurant was maaaaybe at half capacity. Servers would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time, on three occasions we had to get up and get our own things (napkins, salt/pepper, silverware) simply because there were no servers in sight. They brought incorrect orders several times. The only saving grace was that at least they were nice and apologetic, but still. They tried to make up for it by offering our entire party Gelato on the house. But they even managed to mess that up, as they brought out Gelato flavors that we didn't order. It's too bad because it's a great location and the food, once they served what we actually ordered, was pretty good.
Overall nice, but ridiculous when it comes to substitutions. My husband asked for the pasta primavera to be done in a marinara sauce instead of the olive oil sauce. They charged us an extra $3.50 for the “side of marinara” that they used for the pasta.
It was a busy holiday but they did fine in service
Our server was very attentive. Everything came out pretty quick. Food was delicious.
Great food. Great service.
I was very happy with my dining experience at Ugo. I felt that the food, service, ambiance all were exceptional and will be recommending to my friends!
We enjoyed the late happy hour with DJ and great food. Our server was excellent and very attentive and all in all it was just a great experience. We highly recommend the bruschetta and Italian chopped salad. Wine was great too - just a great experience!
Great for group work events.
Food is mediocre but setting is nice outside and service was good.
Great service and food
I was pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed going to Ugo..the food was wonderful with great service , we will definitely go again and have already recommended the restaurant to friends.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious.
The Pizza was the real deal Neopalition just like I used to have it in Naples. Definitely get a pizza! Great price for what it is as well.
I liked this Cafe and had a few dinners there in the past. Unfortunately I thought, as well as the other guests in my party, that the service was a bit off. The restaurant did not seem too crowded but we had to wait a very long time for table and menu and then food and especially the check then.
It is really sad to say this as I really love their pizza but the overall experience was not as expected.
Based on my experience on Valentine's Day, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Granted it was busy, but we had a reservation and while seated promptly, everything that could go wrong from that point on, did. I will preface this review with the fact that were issues during service. Holiday dinner, fixed price menu in addition to regular dinner service, backed up kitchen, no communication fro server and a kitchen fire.... While I could understand that things happen, what I don't understand was the avoidance from the servers/manager until it was apparent that we weren't going to eat. It took 20 minutes to get basic bread to the table. After 1.5 hours of patiently waiting for our entrees - pizza & pasta, with ZERO acknowledgement from our server, we decided that we would ask for the check and cancel the order, calmly and quietly. When we finally got the server to our table, she barely made eye contact and called the manager over. He was clearly overwhelmed with everything happening, and graciously offered to comp our dinner since we were the next ticket out. We decided to take him up on the offer, and box it up to go.. Even the miscommunication around that was indicative of that disaster of an evening. We were served our pizza and pasta dish to the table. When we finally left and got home 10 minutes later, we opened the food to at least get a bite of food since at this point it was 10pm... and it was totally disgusting. The pasta was basic boxed barilla penne that I could have made at home, and the pizza, while fresh, was more of a flatbread and not the famed Napoli pizza we were expecting. That was by far the WORST Valentine's Day ever. Good thing we could laugh about the whole thing.
Never got to try the main dishes because the kitchen took an hour to prepare it.
Great food and service
We love Monday’s night at Ugo’s
