Food was good. I think the cook was watching too much football and left things in the fryer a little too long. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere and am happy to find a German restaurant that is close.

Great location across from Bethesda Metro. Needless to say a terrific selection of beers as well as great pretzels and sausage. Happy Hour has some nice specials. Establishment was quiet on this visit yet I would chalk it up to a December weeknight. I'm sure the place is vibrant on weekends as well as during warmer months or special occasions.

On the plus side, my wife's mussels were good, and she enjoyed her mixed drink. My experience wasn't as good: forgettable sausages and a dissatisfying beer experience. I ordered the Monk's sour, which is a favorite and fairly moderate in cost compared to other Belgian options. For $11 for 0.3 liters, I got a small glass which later proved to be marked for "0.25 liters". I just felt ripped off, and mentioned to the server who said he'd mention it to the manager in a few days. Never have I met a less empowered person! So, it's a nice little hole-in-the wall in the heart of Bethesda where everything else is crowded, noisy, and overdone - but I's probably not got back for dinner, and I'd like to see a decent beer priced a bit more reasonably than $44 per liter.

I was surprised at the tables and chairs - basically picnic tables and benches bolted to the floor. So not very comfortable. But great beer selection. Food was OK - my sausage was a bit dry.

What a great place this is! Instead of the typical inventory of American craft beers, this place has a wide selection of German, Belgian and maybe some other Euro-beers. The place reminded me of a friendly German Beer Hall - good food, excellent service (prompt, knowledgeable staff) and beer to match. I had been meaning to stop in and now am sorry I waited so long. I plan to return.

We decided to try Tyber Bierhaus because we had errands to run in Bethesda and love St. Arnolds in Cleveland Park. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was about 2/3 empty so it was a little quiet. The big long tables and benches give it a beer garden flavor but everything was bolted down and designed for really large people - the table was about 2 feet away from me sitting on the bench. Our server was nice and we each ordered mussels - the St. Arnolds and the Thai Curry. Both came with fries and a few pieces of bread. We had to ask for 2 more servings of the bread as there was not enough to soak up the broth after we were done with the mussels. Everything was fine though not much excitement. We think the problem is really with location. Even on Saturday nights, Bethesda's street parking is only for 1 hour until 10pm. Tyber is several blocks from the nearest parking garage (free on weekends) but on a cold or wet night, it's not ideal.

I found Tyber Bierhaus while randomly looking for “ethnic” restaurants on OpenTable. We are over in Bethesda from time to time – so I thought this looked like my kind of place – you know good beer and good food, in that order. Wow, this place is awesome! I took my wife out to lunch on a weekday, because you can tell a lot about a restaurant by how they take care of their daytime patrons on a limited wait/kitchen staff. My wife had the off-menu lunch special, three cheese grilled cheese sandwich with a side of tomato bisque soup. She loved it, the bread was rustic and the cheeses were melted, gooey, and perfect. The soup was absolutely yummy. I had the Pastrami Sandwich w/fries: seared slices of house smoked pastrami with gruyere cheese on pretzel bread. Simply one of the best pastrami sandwiches I have ever had in my life. My wife had a cider and I had the Ommegang Abbey (a dark double ale for a cold snowy day) to drink – perfect suggestions from the bar staff. They have a beer menu that would make any Belgian blush, if you are looking for great German, Belgian of Czech beer – look no farther. The restaurant has the feeling of many of the cozy beer haus I have spent time in across northern Europe.I also sampled the Aventinus Unser (a German Weissenbock with the perfect hint of banana) before we left – I will return and partake of more!
