About TWO urban licks
TWO urban licks has been heating up the Atlanta restaurant scene with its “Fiery American Cooking” since opening in the fall of 2004, making it one of the city’s busiest restaurants on a nightly basis. The scene features “Fiery American Cooking” prepared in a magnificent nine-foot, wood pit rotisserie in the dining area and live blues nightly. TWO has garnered an abundance of local and national accolades including Conde Nast Traveler’s “Hot List”, Bon Appetit’s “Hot 50 Tables” and one of Rachael Ray’s “favorite restaurants” in the country as told to InStyle Magazine. TWO urban licks Ratings and Reviews
Food was mediocre at best. Duck flavors didn't go well with everything else on the plate, looked like a soupy mess. Waiter came to check on us after everyone already ate so I didn't want to get anything else. My husband enjoyed the short ribs. The flavor on the chicken was nice. Mac and cheese must not have been that good as my kids don't eat it.
The service was great, but the food lacked any pizzazz. I ordered pancakes and two (2) scrambled eggs. The eggs were salty which was disappointing. And the pancakes were not fluffy. Also disappointing. I have been here several times before and had great meals, but I'll remember to take brunch off the list. Suggestion, add more non-pork items for meat choices during brunch and go easy on the salt.
Great birthday location and loved the setting. Rated service as low because after dinner every single person received a double charge on their cards and when they contacted Two Urban Licks the next day they couldn’t get a proper response to having that double charge removed. Their customer service regarding that issue was absolutely terrible. Our waiter was actually great, but if I ever return I won’t pay with a card.
The food was great. Had the pimento stuffed hush puppies ( we ordered a second one) and the mussels for an appetizer. Best mussels I ever had. We had the kale salad m, scallops with Gruyere cheese grits and the flat iron steak with green beans, mashed potatoes and mushrooms. We also had another side dish with corn, peppers and a creamy sauce that was great!
I love this place, but this visit was very lackluster. We were seated upstairs and the service was very poor. We received our appetizers prior to our drinks/wine, and never received or were offered their yummy bread (as usually would be). Server never checked on food or asked us if we desired another round of drinks. My friend didn't receive her side of mac and cheese until after all of our plates were cleared. He offered to take it off the bill, which she accepted, but then the bill still had the item on it so we had to request for him to redo. Just a poor experience at a usually great restaurant - embarrassing when you bring a group of friends.
The meals were very good. The waiter was OK but not that attentive. He brought one meal out sometime after all the others were served.
After getting back I noticed he charged us twice for a vegetable platter. We needed 2 checks for business reasons and both checks were charged for the vegetable platter when only 1 was served.
Stinky! I come to this restaurant often with friends, and we always LOVE the food and enjoy the variety in the menu, but we ALWAYS leave the restaurant reeking of food, and not in a good way! The smell of food really invades everything - our hair, clothes, accessories - and it's a strong smoky smell that lingers sometimes for days. Is there any consideration of changing the setup of the restaurant so that the food is not cooked in the open?
I was very excited to take my husband to this place for his birthday. Neither of us had been there before, but reviews and the menu suggested that it would be very nice. The place, well really parking was a bit hard to locate, but that's no biggie. It looked great on the inside, but noise level was quite high. We had a nice intimate table in the corner, so that was great.
When the server came he recommended the shaved calamari, which we ended up ordering due to his recommendation over the salmon chips. Despite it being packed, the calamari came out super fast; however, I couldn't find any "shaved" item in the bowl. They were regular (actually more on the larger side) calamari and were super bland and tasted like whatever else had been previously fried in the grease.
For our main course we opted for the scallops with grits and the flat iron steak, which was supposed to come with green beans and wild mushrooms. This is where the trouble started. The food came out before we had even finished the appetizers in record speed, literally 5-8 minutes after the appetizers arrived. The scallops entree was excellent; however, the flat iron steak along with the wild mushroom (I literally had one slice of mushroom, smaller than the size of a quarter), the potatoes and the beans were all cold. I let the server know when he came to check that the food was still cold. He apologized and said he would warm it up for us....which is literally what he did, probably in the microwave. The potatoes in some places and the meat were steaming and the beans were still cold. They had taken it off its original oval plate and beans and everything else were literally dumped on a new round plate... potatoes and everything stuck on them. Quite off-putting; especially considering the $29 price tag of the steak and the reputation of the restaurant. We let the server know that the beans were still cold, and he just said "oh, sorry about that." Needless to say we will not return.
Overall, I had a nice time at Two urban licks. We made a reservation for a Sunday at 7. Valet took a while to help us, it seemed to be 1-2 ppl working. We ordered an appetizer, salad, entrees, and dessert. My chicken was ok...somewhat dry though. My date ordered fish that was covered in is a soup....wayyy too much. I told him to send it back but he didn't want to bother. The rest of the food was delicious and the waiter was nice. I didn't like the close seating though. It made our special night seem less private. I wish we were asked for a preference in seating since we made a reservation.
I really enjoy eating here. The ambiance is always high energy , with contemporary decor and music playing. The food stays consistent with flavor and variety. I recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Atlanta. It has a wonderful view of the downtown skyline.
Excellent food and drinks with reasonable pricing. The Empanadas and Brisket was very tasty and the server was prompt and friendly.
However, be prepared for a lot of noise/traffic/crowds coming and going on a Saturday night (beyond normal dining expectations for this busy time, in my opinion). When we arrived around 7:45pm, the valet was backed up 10+ cars and it took 10 minutes to hand over the keys. Once inside it was crowded, loud (live music and tons of people) and there was no real waiting area where you don't feel like you're in the way. The bar was full, people were lined up by the walls near the bathrooms and servers were constantly trying to get through the people milling around. It was chaotic.
Food service was quick but our wines didn't arrive until the entrees because the bar was backed up. Upon leaving, the valet was backed up again and it took almost 10 minutes to get the car.
If you like action and crowds, this seems to be the place. It's obviously popular so the food/ambiance are perfect for many.
The goal at Two Urban Licks is to turn the tables so you are served nicely but quickly. Our Server had difficulty understanding a request for a vegan meal. He finally said he would check with the Chef and came back with 3 different plates of veg. It would have been nice for them to take the time and put them all on one plate. If you want a place to see and be seen, this is it, but don't go for a quiet, leisurely dinner out.
I had heard great things about his place so brought a friend. I really enjoyed the food here and the service was good; however when we arrived the entire place was filled with smoke which gave me a headache. It was also very loud to the point where I could barely hear the server or my friend talking. Not a great choice if you're trying to be quick.
We visited the restaurant around 11pm and it was a horrible experience. There was hardly anyone there but we had to wait on a table even though we had reservations. We decided to wait at the bar and it took 10 minutes for 1 out of 3 bartenders to acknowledge us. We finally got a drink and then of course the table was ready. It took us an additional 5 minutes to wave down 1 of 3 bartenders at an empty bar. 😒
Asked if we could transfer our tab since we were having dinner and the bartender said no. Ok, whatever...closed out and went to the table. I ordered the duck and it was over-cooked and horrible. My boyfriend ordered chicken that he seemed to enjoy. Thank God, they can cook chicken! Stay away from the duck...saying it was disappointment is an understatement.
Tip: Asked to be seated in the side room so you're not in the smoky dining area and go earlier in the day even though they're open ujntil 1am. There are so many great restaurants in Atlanta with great service and exceptional food so I definitely will not return here.
Terrible. The food. The manager. The only saving grace this place has is the bartenders & the drinks they serve up....and the cool decor I guess but you find that anywhere. The Kale Salad was NOT a well-balanced salad...it IS possible (& easy) to make a delicious kale salad. I don’t know how that wooden board the salmon bites are served on is even to Code...ours had a piece of dried food on the end. When the bartender summoned the Manager, he didn’t apologize....just said he’d get with the Chef to make sure “they were on same page”...WTF does that mean?! He never came back. We paid. And we’ll never be back. $90 WASTED! Will not be back. Too bad. It’s within walking distance...we could’ve been regulars. Many other awesome places in area!
