Touted as an American gastropub, Twiggs in St. Albans, VT has been designed as an affordable spot where anyone can savor delicious food, great beer and signature cocktails. It is focused on serving as a community gathering spot, modeling itself after a modern English pub. It features local and organic ingredients as well as sustainably sourced fish and humanely raised meats.
The wine list and beer menu at Twiggs is comprehensive, and everything can pair nicely with the menu items. With a dinner menu, daily specials and "from the bar" choices, it is a great option for families as well as after work groups.
We had wonderful food, wonderful service and lots of fun! We were having dinner with friends we hadn't seen in years, and the service, food and atmosphere made it even more special. We couldn't have asked for a better time!
I have given Twiggs many chances as they have a good menu and I support the local businesses, by after this last dinner, I give up. Long story short, they could not accommodate a "plain" piece of salmon for my salad, an hour to even get fries as appetizer, salad with "no guacamole" came out with it smeared all over, medium rare burger came out dry and burnt and I got attitude with rolling of eyes by server when I asked to have replaced to as I ordered, new burger came out after the rest of the table was already done eating and it had a chunk missing out of the middle of it, we were charged and extra $5 for replacing chips for lettuce (because I cannot eat them), and they would not use the coupon we had for the bill! Oh my... Forgot our order, messed it up, rude service.. And not even an apology or bill comp.. We got billed extra! Ridiculous and very disappointing
We absolutely love Twiggs! Great food, great people, great atmosphere, and great music! Love the artwork in there as well!
Twiggs is my favorite place to go! I love everything about it!! The food is so good, I love all the beers on tap and the atmosphere is wonderful!
Once the live entertainment starts, I feel like I'm in a loud bar. We had to shout to talk, and we were at the other end of the restaurant and couldn't even see the entertainment.
Once again an excellent experience. Great revised menu and fun, interactive service.
Or dinner and apps came out quickly (which is unusual) but a good change! When the food is cooked right, its great. Tonight, no. Nachos were sloppy, cheese on half, a drizzle of salsa splashed on, and brown guacamole.. really? Yuck. Since the menu changed, the salmon salad is now "blackened". I usually, with no problem, get it just plain grilled with no seasoning, but the waitress told me this time I could not get it that way. Ugh.. so I tried it blackened, and did not like it at all. Seasoning was thick, salty, and ruined the taste of everything else. And.. salmon was dry and overcooked. When asked if I liked the salmon, and I said no, I just got an "awww sorry". Oh well.. maybe things will come out ok next time.. as there are limited options for dining out in our area.
An early Christmas Eve dinner venue choice. We ordered the special - grass-fed rib-eye w/veggies and mashed potatoes (me) and French onion soup, Montreal steak sandwich and onion rings (spouse). We're fairly spoiled on corn-fed beef so this was an expected 'lesser than" tenderness and flavor, but it was broiled to perfection and the sides were delicious. The Montreal steak sandwich was delicious, and the onion rings were really beyond compare. Everything was hot and served within a reasonable time. Our waitperson (Abby) was just the best. Friendly but not hovering, on the nose with drink refills (a nice selection of local brews on tap, incidentally). We'll return.
Since my first trip to Twiggs, the restaurant continues to grow on me. Burgers can be heavy as they use a 50/50 bacon/beef mixture, so it's best to ask for local beef. Beyond that, the portions are fair, beer specials are rock (don't miss the $4 pints on Fridays), and the service is always impeccable.
Food was great beer was cold
Look forward to going again
We traveled two and a half hours to watch a play that a dear old friend was directing. The ambience was funky, the food was great, and I think we had the owner and the manager check on us...no need, our server was doing just fine! I would definitely recommend the 14th star brew as well as the yumster! We had a great time!
this was my first visit to Twiggs and we were part of a special package with limited menu choices. Their main food was good but they ran out of a few basics and I didnt care for their choice of vegetable side ...it was corn that was over cooked and kind of tasteless. Maybe we came too late for dinner but I thought 7pm was kind of average. Our waitress was very attentive. I will try it again and repost ...it has potential for a great reveiw with just a few fixes that may have been due to the special package we were on.
We both had the 50/50 beef & bacon burgers. Although we asked to have them cooked medium and medium rare, they were medium well. Unfortunately, they were not juicy although they did have a smoked flavor from the bacon. Next time, we'd rather try the all-beef burgers. The potato chips were very good though.
The only complaint of the group is that the hamburgers were supposed to be rare to medium and they were well done. On another occasion I was outside for lunch and everyone in the group enjoyed their meal. I would go back. I like the quiet atmosphere.
We enjoyed the food and dining experience but we had to wait a long time for our main meal and and also for the dessert. Our waitress was great!
We had a booth and the seats sat so low I couldn't see what I was eating as one of the items was waffle fries and they were served in a high container. My haddock came on a board which was fine except a plate would have been much easier.
had reservations for 6:00 on Saturday, restaurant was very busy, we showed up with two extra people, twiggs was very accommodating. the food is excellent, craft beer list is very good
We occasionally dine at Twiggs, and things are pleasing about 30% of the time. Service is usually a little slow and food has come out more than once- over cooked, burnt or not correct. Why we go back? Food (when done right) is good and the sweet potato fries are to die for! Well, after 30min of watching multiple tables arriving after we ordered receiving their food.. waiter came out to say he addressed the kitchen about our food not coming out. Long story short, our food never got cooked and eventually we received it. Apologies were made and the manager took care of our bill. I am thankful for that and appreciate the effort of the restaurant- that might prompt us to go back again.
We went on the opening night for Local Fare and there were festivities and live music. The waitress was attentive and the food was good. We have a 3 year old, who was given coloring book and crayons. It really helped keep her patient.
An iceberg "salad" ( a few croutons & grated parmesan cheese) for an entrée price of $10?
We went right when Twiggs opened and it was good, but now that we've returned, this will become a regular hangout. The restaurant week deal last night was 50% off burgers with an alcoholic beverage. The beer list at Twiggs has always been impressive and has only gotten better. You'll find the local stars 14th Star on top, but that's only the start. There's a substantial list of beers on tap that's well worth working your way through. Staff were attentive, food was excellent, and we finally tried the Moroccan wings, and they were definitely worth it. Those will become a staple order, especially when Twiggs retains the 50% off appetizer deal from Restaurant Week. We were also told they plan to keep the $3 margarita night.
We enjoyed our dinner and had a friendly wait staff.
The steak was prepared to my expectations. Very friendly professional service. The only negative is that I feel TVs DO NOT need to be placed at every angle. Actually TVs are too much of a distraction and don't belong in this type of atmosphere.
We enjoyed the original food choices and loved the food! Our waiter was superb! My son suggested Twiggs, and I am so glad I went. Terrific!
The food was excellent and Twiggs has now become a weekly place for us to go to. We have brought several of our friends there & this past Friday dined with one of my sons.
This was the first time we've eaten at this restaurant and it was very good. We had for starters -Irish Nachos - they were great, and Fried Mac & Cheese Balls. I had the vegetarian lover’s gluten-free flatbread; it was very good, even as leftovers the next day. My family had - Ringster, BLT, Diced Beets & Goat Cheese Salad and grilled cheese. Afterwards we walked around the park and listened to the live band playing. I thought it was a very nice place and would certainly go again.
We had just been to Twiggs a week ago & experienced a delightful dinner of salmon. Our friends were having their 64th wedding anniversary and rarely go out to eat . We decided that we would take them to Twiggs & they enjoyhed it immensely. We felt it was very nice that at the end of our meal we received a free dessert from management to celebrate their anniversary. We will be back soon.
We went to Twiggs after attending another event so were a little over dress. The service was superb and we had the best pan seared salmon that I have ever had. This is really a compliment as my wife had lived on the ocean for years. We plan on bringing some friends to dinner to experience the wonderful meal and service. Really a gem in our little St.Albans.
The booth seats are way too low, tables are very high
Although I hate the foodie term "gastro pub" (sounds like something that needs pest control) they do fit this bill. Great food, nice surroundings and attentive service.
I love the food at Twiggs. It is excellent. The trouble is the service. We sat down at 6:30. The table next to us sat down at 6:45. They finished their meal and paid before we received our food. We ordered two distinctly different beers (one dark and one golden) and received two of the dark beers. When we mentioned that they were the same beer the lady who brought them told us they were different. We had to return one of the beers to the bar to get the correct one. One burger cooked correctly one not. They got the check wrong as well.
We have been to Twiggs more than several times, mostly a stop before a BFA hockey game and we sit on the bar side. Always receive great service. Food good and consistent. But on Mother's Day, we decided to have an early dinner, at 4:30pm, hoping to avoid the crowd and in hopes service would be prompt (due to hopefully not being as busy). We waited too long for everything. I'm not sure why everything took so long and I noticed other tables seeming too be experiencing the same thing. We were sitting in the back area of main restaurant. Party of 4.
This won't keep us from returning, but if it had been my first time there, I might not visit again.
All my other visits have been 4-star thou.
We had wings and burgers and both were great. The burgers were 50/50 patties, 50% beef and 50% bacon...different and delicious.
We did have one meal that was charged but not delivered to the table it was in addition to another item the customer ordered. The meal was removed from the bill.
We've had great experiences here a few times. We decided to bring the kids for dinner, and the food was delicious as usual. My only complaint was that the mac 'n Out we ordered for the kids came out just out of the oven and was way too hot - they weren't able to eat much at all, and the plates were dangerous to have on the small table with children in reach of them. If you could let those plates cool, or transfer the food to another plate before serving, it would make for an even better experience for families!
Nice meal, good waitress. Live music was nice, but way too loud for where we were sitting!
I've now dined at Twiggs several times and they never fail to provide outstanding service, as well as excellent, affordable food and drinks. I've been there for "date night," met friends for dinner, had lunch with girlfriends, celebrated our twenty-something's birthday, and attended a business lunch meeting there. This funky little gastropub has more personality than one might expect in the quaint town of St. Albans, Vermont. One of my new favorite menu items is the crab-cakes! You can make a meal out of this appetizer!
Once you dine at Twiggs, you'll find yourself becoming a regular!
I have been wanting to go to Twiggs since it opened, finally went 4-5-2014 for my birthday dinner. We all loved the food and atmosphere....can't wait to go again. My husband said it should be our new hangout!
I booked my reservation online and my table was ready! My friend and I ate dinner and caught up. It had great atmosphere and food. Excellent waitress
We started our meal with the Irish Nachos, which were excellent and quite a surprise. Good portion for an appetizer as well. We each had an entree (I had the sirloin steak special and my husband had the fish and chips). The portions were generous, the food was well-presented and tasty and it came out warm. The drink menu was adequate and I had a tasty red wine with dinner. Would recommend this restaurant and we will visit again to try one of their many specialty hamburgers!
