Tucked beneath the iconic Walper Hotel, our attentive and neighbourly staff welcome you to enjoy local ingredients done well, with a thoughtfully sourced menu focused on sustainability and diversity.
Food was very average and underwhelming. Service was ok. Had a much better experience at other restaurants in KW this weekend (visited from out of town to check out the local spots).
Valentine’s Day dinner was lovely. Thanks TWH Social
Although the ambiance and service were excellent, the food left something to be desired. We had both ordered sandwiches but both were noticeably burnt. Mine was worse and I was unable to finish it. It was disappointing as it was my daughter's first time there. Also, someone had propped open the upstairs door and cold air was flooding the area around our booth.
There were big parties in the dining room, so it was a bit louder than we’d experienced before as we had to sit in the lounge. Other than that, everything was stellar.
We had reservations for 6pm and barely made it to our concert at 8pm. Entees took 30 min and we had to rush to eat it was disappointing to spend that much money and not enjoy our food.
We were seated very quickly in a not very crowded restaurant playing very nice music. The deco was very nice and it was quite clean.
However, after 30 minutes we had not been welcomed by any server or even asked if we wanted to order drinks. The maitre'd came over to check if we had been served but it was another 7 minutes before our server came. He was quite rude (stood by our table without speaking until we asked if we could order) even though he had come several times to the other tables he was serving during that whole time and was joking with those patrons. We ordered beers, water, and an appetizer to start.
Over 10 minutes later our beers came, without the water, and it was another 7 before we got our appetizer which was lukewarm (even though it was supposed to be toasted) and the caramelized onions on it were overly sweet and lacked texture. We never got our water, though our server brought water to the other tables.
We then asked for our bill and went elsewhere.
Blain our server was funny and excellent! Looking forward to the next time we go having music.
TWH Social was an amazing find: lovely setting and *superlative* food at a very, very reasonable price. we will return to this restaurant often in future and happily recommend it to all.
Good food, good service- a nice way to bring in the New Year.
We had a valid reservation for brunch via OpenTable but we arrived to find a restaurant that was closed and no one at the Walper Hotel had any idea why!!!
Great place! Nice atmosphere, service was great! Food was exceptional.
Definitely recommend going for dinner and drinks.
The quality of food and service was fantastic. I was somewhat disappointed with the atmosphere, however. The life music, while nice, was quite loud. That, coupled with some drunken bargoers made it difficult to enjoy the atmosphere. Specifically because I was there for a date at the time.
However, I was there on a Friday night, so obviously you have to expect there to be more attendees than usual.
The experience at THW Social was great, however, the service was a bit slow. It took over an hour for the food to arrive, and drinks were often left at the bar for minutes on end.
The food was lovely presentation but the taste was bland. We had the baked brie and the cod on risotto.
Had dinner than went to the comedy show, we had to tell the waitress that there was to be a 10% discount when book the show with dinner
She was a very good waitress
Food was less than disentangle, very bland and expensive for what we had
We met there for an office Christmas party. The location is nice and the food is fine. The server was… Not exactly rude but standoffish I guess? He seemed a little bored and irritated with us. It also didn’t help that there was loud construction work going on in the room next-door. Difficult to have a nice conversation when there is the occasional side of a jackhammer.
Amazing food, great selection with exceptional flavours, impeccable service. One of our favourite places to go for a great night out with friends.
We happened to get our order in behind a group of 21 so the food was slow coming and we were on a lunch break. Other than that everything was great.
Food is very good for the most part. Drinks were excellent. Service was average. Very nice spot to enjoy conversation with guest
Our waitress was amazing. Extremely personable and friendly.
Food arrived exceptionally fast.
We both ordered the special coconut curry. It was very good. Very tasty.
The portion size was silly. It was less then half a portion that you would receive normally.
Value wasn’t great.
A very nice, inviting space. Though a bit overpriced for a pretty standard menu, everything is good quality, and the food doesn't disappoint. (Two minor critiques: the pickerel dish could be a bit more substantial and there could be some more affordable options for wine selection by the bottle.) All in all, a great choice for a nice night out!
The service was the slowest I’ve ever experienced and it wasn’t busy.
We made reservations last night for 4. Upon arrival, we were put at the back of the bar sitting at a high table on stools as nothing else was available. Why did you take the reservation? We asked for a 'real' table, but we were told this was all there was as the last table had just been seated. It was quite loud - so loud that we had to yell to be heard speaking across the table. Unacceptable as far as we're concerned. Make up your mind, are you a bar with good food, or a restaurant that sits guests in the bar even if they have reservations. Most good restaurants will offer the bar seating as an alternative to a table when they are busy and a guest DOES NOT HAVE RESERVATIONS. Too expensive for what is offered.
Love Thurs buck a shuck. Live music is not to loud, acoustic. Great service and thoughtful staff!
Quite a few concerns: coffee wasn't served until after brunch food was received; tapas was served well after entree--and after multiple requests for it; salad was missing from entree plates and only served after it was requested; eggs were not cooked as ordered; server never checked in with us but when questioned about issues apologized profusely. Bill was reduced for table by 50%, and food was very good, but unfortunately the experience was not a good one due to the multiple errors and oversights that kept happening.
Food was good. Our waiter Darren was excellent. The musician wasn't the greatest. If we were to go back and he was playing again I think I'd go somewhere else.
TWH Social is located in a quaint underground area just off the main strip in downtown KW. The server who greeted us Miro was fantastic. Super attentive and very professional, made our experience excellent. I had the crispy chicken and my husband ordered the TWH social burger which was fantastic. The s'mores inspired dessert was slightly dry but still very tasty. Overall had a lovely experience and would definitely come back.
Vegan options, mature and professional waitstaff, gorgeous interior, awesome food.
Lovely restaurant. Nice ambience. Delicious food with gluten free options which is great. Music was a bit loud but other than that it was great.
server was personable and fun
selection in the menu somewhat limited
Booked mid week to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted warmly by all and the food and drink specials were explained. Our server was a wonderful conversationalist and was knowledgable about the wines as well as pairings with the food. We both had steaks - perhaps a little heavily salted but delicious none the less. An excellent meal with outstanding service.
Nice place. Food was good
Our server did a great job
The restaurant is located in the beautifully renovated Walper Hotel - a historical and architectural landmark in Kitchener. I sat with my 2 guests in TWH'S downstairs seats, a welcome respite from the outside summer heat. The lunchtime crowd was gradually petering out when we got there and so the atmosphere was fairly quiet. The menu had a good variety of options, ranging from fairly generous starters to interestingly varied salads, somewhat less interesting sandwiches and burgers, good dinner options, and prime-quality steak dishes. None of us had huge appetites, so we tried to stay away from the heavier options. I wanted something to warm my gullet so I started with the lobster bisque followed by a cheeseburger and fries. My 2 friends ordered 2 different types of salads. One got baby kale and quinoa salad served with dried cranberries, diced apples, pickled onion, gem tomatoes, radish and apple vinaigrette. The other got heritage greens served with fennel, feta cheese, cucumber, grape tomatoes, and sherry vinaigrette. Both chose a generous portion of grilled salmon to go with their salads. My friends were very satisfied with their salads. I generally liked my cheeseburger, which was served on a sourdough bun with black truffle mozzarella, aged cheddar, yellow cheddar, and sundried tomato. The burger was nicely seasoned and succulent, but I found the delicate taste of the black truffle mozzarella got lost among the other cheeses.
We finished with peppermint teas and a coffee. Our server was courteous and generally pleasant though I did feel we were a being a bit rushed towards the end of the meal. No sooner had we ordered our teas and coffee than the server presented us with our bills, and though she assured us that we could stay and chat, we still felt we should be wrapping things up. The meal was planned as an occasion when we could catch up on each other's news so we didn't appreciate being rushed.
Our overall experience at TWH Social was very pleasant though!
Food was expensive for what you received. They were out of 2 or 3 different kinds of wine before they found a bottle that was available.
Live music was too loud!!!
Very good dinner. My 16th year old girl said she had the best hamburger ever
The food was delicious but the wait for the food was long! One gal in our group was only advised the dish she ordered could not be provided as they ran out of the fish at the time when the rest of our orders were being brought out! She has to wait for her order while the rest enjoyed the food! More staff are needed!
Good food, nice atmosphere, service was great, would go again
A great spot. I was pleasantly surprised. My turkey club was just like any other turkey club with the exception that the bacon did not have to be searched out, nice thick slices. The calamari was divine. Our server Matt, although he was very busy, was attentive and stopped by several times to be sure our dinner was enjoyable.
Overall a very disappointing experience especially after having enjoyable meals here in the past.
The music was loud making it challenging to hear our server. When I told her that I was having difficulty hearing her she told us that she was getting over an illness. She apologized profusely when she spilled cream on our feet explaining that she was “pounding back the Buckley’s”. I spoke to a supervisor asking why the server was working while ill and she said she would speak to her. Sick employees really shouldn’t be serving food.
Our meals were average and when our new server asked how our meal was and I responded with “It was okay” she didn’t ask why or seemed concerned.
When the bill came I asked where our original server was. I was told that she was sick and went home. I said that she shouldn’t have been serving food then and our new server said that she didn’t which I disagreed with.
A really unsatisfactory evening and I won’t be returning.
