Originally opened in 2010 as the first authentic Artisan Italian restaurant in Salem, NH, Tuscan Kitchen is now one of the most beloved restaurants in New England. Got 3 pastas with butter and cheese for our 3 young girls and they came to $72 I almost fell over when I got the bill! The waiter was less than helpful when I asked about the cost for pasta with butter! Ridiculous we won’t be back.

Excellent food, decor, food choices, good service but the music was so overwhelmingly loud I would have left if I did not have noise canceling earbuds to get through the evening. I could still converse with my husband using the earbuds without being made miserable by the music level. It was so loud that I couldn’t even concentrate on the menu until putting in my earbuds. We had visited one of their sister restaurants, Tuscan Sea Grill & Bar, and the music level was not nearly as loud and we could enjoy our dinner much more. More consideration needs to be given to noise-sensitive diners and to guests who would actually like to have a conversation with their friends and family without shouting.

Granted this was Christmas Day, but the service was inordinately slow. The food is good, the setting is great. This place is definitely worth the cost. I’ll be back hoping the service is a bit better organized.

Food took a long time to come out. Caprese salad-mushy tomatoes The worst was the risotto was so salty it was inedible. I sent it back, but they brought it back out in 4 minutes (you can’t cook risotto in 4 minutes). So it was from the same salty batch-at that point I just gave up and asked for mashed potatoes. Do the chefs taste what they make?

With the exception of our waitress for dinner every staff member encountered were miserable and unwelcoming. Both upstairs and in the main restaurant, the hostesses and bartenders were just miserable. Waited upstairs for at least 20 minutes for the woman to come over to see us, took another 15 minutes to return with 1 wine, 1 margarita, and 2 bourbons. Down stairs we were told to wait at the bar, another 15 minutes of waiting only to tell me I couldn't order there I had to go over to the other side. Once I did.it was another 15-20 minutes. Same order as before. Seabass and chicken entrees overcooked and dry. New building same issues as before. Cannot imagine of trying them again.
