The atmosphere was ok. The food take a long time to come and it was cold. The messed up my order and refused to substitute instead they up charged. I had the watermelon momossa and it was beyond disgusting. They said everything I local farm but I see no evidence of that. Flovaor was good overall. I must say the biscuit was really good. Not sure if I will be back.
The service was wonderful and our waiter was great. Having eaten at Tupelo Honey in Greenville SC, I was a little disappointed in the food - the biscuits were not as good, the fries were mediocre, and there wasn’t any of that spicy hot honey on the side. Dessert was great - thanks for the birthday candle on my cheesecake.
My husband and I were on a business trip from Maryland. We look forward to eating here every time we ate in the Virginia Beach. Tupelo Honey is upscale southern cooking. I love the honey and biscuits.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friend's home. I definitely would return to try more of their food.
After waiting forty minutes for my salad the manager told me it would be another twenty minutes if I wanted shrimp on it. The food was very good, but expensive.
The food was OK But my experience was severely tainted by the awful service we received. Our waitress hardly ever came around and EVERYthing took forEVER including water.
We were seated immediately at our reserved time and the restaurant was busy but not full to capacity. The food was delicious - authentic southern dishes made fresh and with high quality ingredients. We started with the nachos and the fried green tomatoes - both were incredible. The nachos have a hint of honey smoked flavor and everyone at the table fought over them! The fried green tomatoes were a crowd pleaser as well - the green tomatoes were not soggy as they often are - and the batter was perfect - we also enjoyed the bed of grits they were served on.
For our meal, three of us enjoyed the Chicken Fried Chicken - it has a hint of spice and the chicken was tender with a light batter. The only thing negative is that they were very skimpy with the gravy - there was not much at all on any of the three plates of Chicken Fried Chicken served to our table. Our sides were incredible - the baked macaroni and cheese, mashed sweet potatoes, green beans - all of them tasted fresh and were tasty without being too rich. Others at the table enjoyed the pimento cheese burger and the burger topped with barbeque.
The only downside to our evening at Tupelo Honey was our server. I can't tell you her name, because she did not tell us her name or greet us in any real manner. She seemed pretty unhappy and her non-verbals to our table were sour - no smiling, no real eye contact, no asking if we had questions about the menu, no suggestions, nothing personal at all. She rushed every exchange we had to the point of being brusk and rude. While we were ordering, she cut off two guests who were briefly discussing their order - apparently we weren't ordering fast enough. Again, the restaurant was not full to capacity and it appeared she had plenty of assistance as there are other staff members there who serve the food.
If it weren't for the server, it would have been a pretty perfect experience! We will definitely come back.
Excellent food and decent service. My only regret is there isn’t one in Richmond!
Pork chop/gravy was very salty as if someone dropped box of salt in it.
However, the honey chicken salad was delicious!
The fried okra was very good and the chicken sandwich was good. One guest didn't really like his ribs .2 happy guests and 2 not so happy guests.
Service was great. Manager made things right and surprise our birthday guest with a candle lit banana pudding. SERVICE was excellent
Outdoor seating is on the street, so not much ambiance. Food was good, service was a little slow.
Our server was very busy but the staff was working together reasonably well, we recieved our food in a timely manner. I wanted a second beverage from the bar but the server was too busy to come by and ask. We did mention we had to be at a show and made it out just in time, so the server was on point there. The seasonal Gin n Tonic was very nice though, which is why'd I'd have had another!
Way too much food . Too heavy for one person
Nice atmosphere, center of Virginia Beach. It was unseasonably warm and the outdoor dining area was available. Great eclectic mix of down home food.
Food was great. Kitchen slow but it was first day of Restaurant Week and we were not in a hurry so not a problem. Others around us detracted from enjoying our meal because they were impatient and bordered on rude. The restaurant was wonderful, our server did a great job and food was terrific. We have been before under regular day sutuation and not experienced the slow kitchen so it was unusual. Highly recommend!
The food was okay but our server wasn't the best. We had to stack plates before he finally took the appetizer dishes. He only refilled water one time. Our tickets were all messes up, wrong prices and other people's food on the ticket. We had to ask for to go boxes 3 times. We had to ask for lemons two times. Took 20 minutes to get incorrect ticket. Just wasn't a good experience.
Very pleasant wait staff! The fish and chips were good, but not great. Wine by the glass was rather expensive. Great ambience!
I can’t say anything bad about Tupelo Honey. The food was excellent. I had shrimp and grits topped spicy sausage. Wow!
The service was extremely pleasant. And after we left and I review my receipt I noticed I had made error in the math. I checked my bank the next day and I was only charged what I should have been. So add honesty to the list of accolades. In the immortal words of General MacArther. “I shall return”
The customer service at the restaurant was very disappointing. Our waitress was not very attentive. She would pass our table without checking on us. When she did come to the table she was nice, but otherwise when would pass by without acknowledging our table. We opted to leave the restaurant even though the manager apologized and offered to cover our tab if we stayed.
Our service during Valentine’s Day was terrible! We barely saw our waiter and the food took almost one hour to arrive! We waited so long and our drinks were rarely refilled that we almost ended up walking out. By the time our food came, it was already room temperature cold! We took several bites and were very unsatisfied that we ended up leaving a few minutes later. We were just ready to go eat elsewhere!!!!
Been here multiple times. This time my fries were barely warm and my fried chicken had the gravy on top instead of on the side as I had asked. Considered this an exception to normally very good past experiences.
Had a nice Valentine's dinner this week. Food was mostly well prepared. We chose the 2 plate chicken dinner special offered for the night. Good value. We shared the crispy Brussels sprouts appetizers, which were the best we've ever had! Biscuits were large, tall & fluffy and served with blueberry jam and plenty of honey. Wish they would have brought butter for them and a bit more jam, only got about 1 tbs for both of us to share. The fried chicken was crunchy outside and juicy and perfectly cooked. The peppered milk gravy was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved it. Wish they offered mashed potatoes as they are so iconic paired with fried chicken. Unfortunately, our side dishes were average. Mashed sweet potatoes came plain (no cinnamon, butter or brown sugar), french fries were nothing special and garlic green beans were done nicely al dente, but not garlicky in taste. Disappointed with the macaroni and cheese, which I had hoped would be outstanding being that it is a southern style restaurant. It was kind of dry, definitely not ooey-gooey cheesy that I love. Overall, we enjoyed our dinners and would come back in the near future to try other menu items that looked yummy.
Colton (sp?) did a nice job taking care of us. Very tasty appetizer (fried green tomatoes) though a little pricey at $10.50 for 4 slices . Pork shoulder entree was excellent and a great value and the tea brined chicken was very tasty as well. The green beans accompanying the chicken were way undercooked and inedible as presented.
Really like your place and have been there a few times, after going to the original spot in Asheville a few months ago. Hope to keep stopping by.
Our ladies group had lunch here and everyone enjoyed themselves! The service was excellent, the food outstanding! Will definitely be back! 😀
This was my first time there celebrating my son's second birthday. The food was amazing ! But the service was all that I expected everyone was friendly and kind but it seem like they were over worked. We didn't receive our biscuits until our main meal came out and it was hard trying to stop our waitress to ask for more stuff . She seem like she was too busy didn't even take drink orders while she came and we were sitting there for a good minute. But other than that I enjoyed my time the biscuits and chicken are amazing thanks ! Defiantly will eat there again (:
Really great brunch on Sunday. Our server Megan could not have been nicer and more professional, yet not stuffy. The food was fantastic, and the care and from scratch nature of the kitchen was evident. Love that they are focused on sustainable and responsible sourcing.
Nice atmosphere but the food was surprisingly disappointing--bland and uninspired.
Great menu, super cool atmosphere. The waiter was really friendly. Good brunch spot right in Town Center!
Good but nothing too exciting. Service was very slow. Good was pretty good. Brunch drink specials would be nice.
Great food and great service!! Highly recommend to all in the Hampton Roads area.
Chris was an absolute delight, and knew the menu thoroughly. He recommended the caramelized butternut on sourbread toast, and it was pure bliss!! I've not enjoyed a meal so much in ages. Paired with the perfect spicy bloody Mary, and the biscuit w/ blueberry compote and honey:HEAVEN!! Highly recommend Chris, and that dish. DEFINITELY, will repeat it!
Loved the collard green cheese dip with spicy pork rinds instead of chips. My trout was good but the crust was a bit too sweet. The best looking dish on the table was the scallops. Next time....
The food was good, although the brussell sprouts were crunchier than liked, but still good. Our service was fantastic. We would go back again, and would like to try the brunch. Considering this is a good hour from Windsor, VA; this is saying something.
Wonderful brunch with family! Chosen specifically for the Crab Benedict on the brunch menu. Restaurant was surprisingly quiet when we were there for Christmas Eve Brunch....best kept secret I guess. Everyone had a delicious meal....service was expedient and very friendly. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return!
Great introduction to southern cooking for us. The biscuits are divine.
I made a reservation through Open Table weeks before our arrival for a party of 11. Our table was not ready upon arrival. My husband and I ordered the shrimp and grits. It was "ok." Others ordered the friend chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. We won't rush back but if we do, I'll try the friend chicken next time.
Interesting menu with great selections. Good fusion of southern comfort with healthy food choices.
Overall a great lunch. Food was excellent and a wide variety of choices.
A group of 6 of us dined here before a show and we were very disappointed in the food. The collards were extremely salty, green beans were raw and mac n cheese was ok. The cocktails were really good for 4 of us, but don't waste your money on their version of an orange crush. I would only return for drinks.
We were delighted with how accommodating the chef was -- s/he made a few adjustments to the menu items for two vegans in our group of five. We also appreciated that our server double-checked on several other items to be sure the items were vegan. Everything was delicious. Well done!
I went out with a group of friends for Friday night dinner and the experience was great! The drinks, notably the Pineapple Tiki For Two, were strong and tasty. I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken meal and it was filling and delicious. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for some great Southern comfort cuisine.
