Tupelo Honey was highly recommended by a friend of mine before our trip to Asheville. I made reservations for a Tuesday night with no issues, but it was still quite busy. The fried Brussels sprouts were delicious, and we devoured the complimentary biscuits. My husband very much enjoyed the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and the goat cheese grits. I had the shoo mercy shrimp and grits, which was so full flavor and comfort. This was overall definitely southern comfort food; and being from Louisiana, this meal was as close to home as we could get in Asheville. We also enjoyed eating on the cozy outdoor patio even though it was slightly chilly outside. Great experience, and I would definitely go back and recommend.
The best fried chicken I’ve had. Love the okra.
Trout was fabulous.
Superb food and service.
They have done a great job reworking the menu Ate at both thier Asheville locations in recent days. Food and service excellent at both. Downtown needs a redecorating boost and could do with some noise abatement, but overall a solid, fun, reliable place. A couple of years ago, I felt they were resting oil thier laurels and not worthy of revisits. No longer the case. They have it going well.
Great dinner !
Good southern food. Excellent selection
Service was great. Very accommodating and kind. Food is exactly what you want when you are going to brunch, but better quality than anywhere else.
Enjoyed the southern fare-fried green tomatoes, collard greens, biscuits were great. The grits with goat cheese were some of the best I’ve had. The meatloaf and fried chicken were also winners.Enjoyed the lovely fall evening sitting out on the porch.Would recommend Tupelo Honey to anyone who would like southern cooking with a twist.
We wanted to get a drink while waiting, but we were told we couldn’t so we had to go next door. Food wasn’t as good as last time. Waitress was awesome.
Great dinner but we were very disappointed with the size of our cocktails. My husband is accustomed to a 2 finger pour of scotch & he received 1 finger (with ice!) & my martini glass showed up 3/4 full.. for what they charge, the expectation would be adequate sized cocktails.
Great food and interesting drinks in the heart of town
This is by far the best restaurant in Asheville. Went for both breakfast and lunch! Enjoy
my biggest flaw at the Tupelo was the seating arrangements our table was right out there where all the traffic was and the kitchen was right there (that was my view) so there was a lot of congestion at this particular table and the table were so close you could hear everything being said at the table next to you.
While the restaurant was in incredible demand, we found the service to be unimpressive and the food, while good, not as special as we had expected.
In a night generating long lines to get in, we were told our table was not ready when we got there and we would just need to wait. A message that could have been delivered more politely, was terse. At dinner, many of the items were fried, and were more basic than expected. I had the hanger steak, which was good but not great.
Also frustrating was the suggestion that the banana pudding would be a good item to celebrate a birthday. It was not comped, nor was it all that great compared to others I have had. Wine selection was also not that impressive.
Overall it was an ok to good experience, not the special experience I had hoped for.
Loved the server and his suggestions about the menu. Food was delicious and plentiful!
Wonderful food! Get the fried green tomatoes.
Service was great and the food was amazing! Great drinks too!
We loved our visit to Tupelo Honey. The food was some of the best we had during our stay in Asheville. Service was great. The only downside was that we reserved an outside table on a Friday night, and there’s a community drum circle that takes place almost directly across the street for hours on Friday nights. It’s not Tupelo Honey’s fault, but it definitely makes for a loud evening, especially when the guy starts playing his saxophone just up the street! I would definitely recommend a visit. Just make sure you get a table inside if you’re there on a Friday night.
Really must have the fried chicken, it is a lot of food so consider splitting. If like spicy definitely ask for sriracha honey on or on side. Biscuits are good, make a reservation as the wait can be long on Friday or Saturday without. Banana pudding is fantastic for a finish.
Overall great spot for couple or kids.
Crispy fries chickens. Good service. Outdoor seating was great when weather is warm. Paid street parking. Pricy to eat here.
The food is great. Would recommend outdoor seating if weather permits. It is quite noisy inside. Service was great. Very crowded, definitely make reservations.
While the food was good, and service excellent, the AMBIENT NOISE WAS SO G-D LOUD, that we
will never go there again. We could barely communicate across the table. Just terrible acoustics!!
We had been to the Tupelo Honey in Franklin, TN and loved the food. The original restaurant was as good or better that that one. Although the Franklin location is more upscale and modern, we enjoyed the atmosphere here in Asheville. We were fortunate to get reservations and sat at the counter which was fun.
I love Tupelo Honey restaurants. I visit the one in Myrtle Beach. This one had tables very crowded together. It was noisy (lots of babies/children) crowded right next to you. Waiter was nice but rushed and didn’t check on us.
Not relaxing at all. Food is good!
I’ll head to the one in MB! Too, maybe the one in South Asheville would be more relaxing just because it wouldn’t be downtown?....
We sampled several breakfast dishes, ordering more than we could eat just for tasting. However it was so good we ate enough for two meals then skipped lunch. The shakshuka ,sausage and crispy potatoes all deserve extra praise.
A must stop for your visit to Asheville. We had both breakfast and lunch here ( different days) and both meals were excellent. The staff was attentive, professional and a lot of fun. The fried chicken was, perhaps, the best I've ever tasted as were the grits.
The best!!! Be sure to get the fried green tomatoes. We ate here 3 times during our Asheville visit.
Our appetizer of fried green tomatoes was just average. The coating on the tomatoes was too thick. My husband’s pork dish was dry. My shrimp and grits dish was fine, but not exceptional.
All in all, we were somewhat disappointed with our experience.
Terrific food and FABULOUS service!
A wonderful place to eat! We all had something different for breakfast and the food was all great!! Thank goodness we had reservations because this place is in big demand!
Everyone raves about the sweet potato pancakes and I can see why. Split a small stack with my wife along with the avocado and egg biscuit.
Everything we ate was amazing. Service was very personable without being bothersome. Waitress split checks without even complaining. Definitely a must when in Asheville.
We had a reservation for 745 and didn’t get our entree till 915. We were the forgotten diner I was gravely disappointed.
I was here in 2010 and came back.. Fried green tomatoes and goat cheese grits.. Made reservation in advance.. seated before our reservation time and the restaurant was busy brought friends .. left happy
Did not meet expectations, food was average at best, there are better places to eat.
Great all around food and service!! Love the expansion!
Service was very good. My husband had the fried chicken and it was not worth the $$. I had the ribs and they were good. Cocktails were spot on! Will return and try something different next time 🙂
Very crowded, so thankful we had a reservation on this busy Friday night. We sat at the counter and had excellent service. Great food and they helped us celebrate our anniversary. Good sized portions left enough for another meal.
The best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had! Adding the avocado with the fried egg was AMAZING! Brussel sprouts were great too. Only complaint is we didn’t have room for dessert. ☺️
Heard this place was a must so we went for dinner at the downtown location. Loved the atmosphere and our server was nice. Drinks were tasty but kind of pricey. Shared Brussels sprouts appetizer - tasted burnt but the dipping sauce was good. My friend’s entree was too spicy for her and her sandwich toast was straight up black/burnt on the bottom.
