Seem to have worked out the kinks I'd read about. Service was great, food was very good. Only challenge was the time limit as we had to rush just at the end as the table was reserved but hopefully this will start to settle down as things continue to open up.
I booked based on the nice garden displayed on the website. We drove a 6 hour round trip to have lunch with our daughter and our table was in a marquee in a car park. So disappointing. No atmosphere. The food wasn’t great I’m afraid. 3 of us shared chicken parfait (very nice), and squid and whitebait - little fish and filled out with potatoes and egg. 2 of us had belly pork which was nicely cooked but too salty and very few vegetables. I understand that pubs and restaurants need to maximise their outdoor space in the current circumstances but it should have been made clear at the time of booking that we would be sat in a car park. If I had known I wouldn’t have booked it
Excellent service, food and drinks. The garden is perfect for a Sunday lunch!
What a horrific experience. Booked a birthday lunch in the beer garden. Called before to ask for a nice table. The lady on the phone was unhelpful but I hoped for the best. On arrival we were given a table on the busiest part of the south circular out the front of the pub - not in the beer garden. No one should have to eat in this location. It’s truly terrible. Aside from this horrid experience the ‘manager’ lady was the most unhelpful, abrupt, hostile person I’ve come across in a long time. Walk across the road to The Railway beer garden which is much prettier and far more friendly!
Really tasty roast meal and we had great service.
We were sat in the car park so not great ambiance or surroundings considering you are paying £33 for a bottle of Prosecco! Won’t book outside again! A big disappointment.
Shunted out into their marquee - absolutely nothing like the photos and horribly drab - it’s their car park normally. No heaters, just some bleak fairy lights. We ordered food, got served what might be the worst ravioli outside of a motorway petrol station. My friend hadn’t even finished eating when one of the staff came out and told us we had to go. £101 for the pleasure (for 2). Things have been hard for the hospitality industry recently but the way these guys are operating, they’ll be a lot harder.
Food was lovely but wasn’t very hot. I expect this is because of the walk from inside to the temporary gazebo and no heaters in the gazebo at all. Had we been able to sit in the regular outside area which has proper booths and tables and probably heaters, then we would have preferred that. There was no atmosphere or greenery. It was just plastic tables under an awning in what was probably the car park. But having suffered so much during Lockdown, I will not judge on this occasion but I did feel that a bit more effort could have been made to make this area more warm and welcoming for diners.
Good pub food with a nice beer garden. Some of the tables are covered but most aren't, so you have to hope for dry weather.
Really disappointed with my visit to Tulse Hill Hotel.
To maximise serving space during COVID they had set up temporary seating in the car park, which was really uncomfortable and had zero ambience.
The wine I ordered (Provence rosé) I could see from their website was out of stock. When I ordered it they brought me an inferior house wine without mentioning the substitution, then proceeded to charge me the higher price as if they had given me what I ordered.
To top it off, an extra charge for “Black Dog” was added to my bill, put through silently with no one drawing attention to it, hoping their clientele would not notice. After considerable online searching I discovered it was a mental health charity they have affiliation with. If they want customers to donate to a charity, they should ask at the point of paying whether you want to add a donation rather than trying to slip it through on your bill forcing people to question it / ask to remove it, or better yet not notice it.
Will not be dining here again any time soon. Previously a regular customer but they have lost me.
Nice big garden and decent gastropub food (we had fish and chips, but the Sunday roast looked very good). Service was a little slow - I'd advise asking the waiting staff for service rather than using the app.
Super friendly and helpful staff, plenty of socially distanced space
Very friendly staff and the garden was set up well for safe and warm dining,
Our table was in the car park...not quite what I expected for my first meal out in months, completely lacked the charm of the pub and the garden. I wish I had been told at the time of booking. Food was ok, burgers were delicious but the roast beef was poor, and my portion had a lot of chewy fat that should have been removed. I had much better meals there!
They sat us down in the parking lot - terrible ambience
Amazing food, drinks and service was extremely attentive. Will definitely be back.
Nice setting and good food selection
The team on May 1st at lunchtime were truly amazing so charming friendly and professional. Sat out in the covered car park but was annoyed to see other people complaining and being moved into the beer garden.
Overall a great place with good food and fantastic friendly front of house team.
Great lunch as always. Great service, great selection of drinks and great food.
Staff were really great and the food is delicious.
Tent in car park lacks any atmosphere at all, but appreciate it’s only a short term thing.
They never let us down. Service was prompt and enthusiastic.
Great food, excellent and friendly service. Burgers are superb!
We booked expecting to be seated in the lovely outdoor garden as had been publicised. However, when we arrived we were walked through the garden to a back area with a makeshift gazebo that had been set up in the car park which was very exposed to the main road and was generally very grim. There was no heating, just some basic chairs and flimsy tables. We decided to leave after having a drink and so did not order food. This was really disappointing as we have been to Tulse Hill Hotel a number of times and have always enjoyed ourselves and the good food.
The food and service were excellent. It was initially very quiet and we were having a very relaxing lunch but then a fairly rowdy work party came in which did spoil the ambience slightly but was absolutely NOT the fault of the establishment. Would definitely recommend.
Had a delicious meal in the patio area.
Seating was comfortable and the booths in particular were quite cosy.
Service as ever was good.
Good drinks and nice ambience. Lovely outdoor area and dog friendly.
We had booked for Sunday Lunch as a table of 6. When we arrived we were asked whether we just wanted drinks when our booking was for food. We then were sat out the front instead of the back and so we had to drink our wine out of plastic cups, not ideal for a Sunday Lunch. It would have been good to be informed we would be out the front / have the option to be out the back. The road was very loud and busy.
Delicious roast - the best vegetarian / vegan roast I've had ( a delicious beetroot wellington) Very friendly and accommodating staff - will be back!
Went on Sunday for mum’s birthday and the staff were all absolutely lovely. Garden was understandably v busy but the service was excellent and food and drinks were great.
I was there on a Sunday with my friends and we all ordered the Pork Sunday roast. The food was very good and the staff very friendly. Overall we had a nice experience. I would go back, definitely.
I had never had a disappointing visit to the Tulse Hill hotel pre lockdown, the food and service had always been amazing, and the garden out the back is a little oasis. This time however it feels like a different pub, we were seated out the front which I feel should be communicated when booking. I don’t think they used to take bookings out the front for food. We wouldn’t have booked the table for a relaxing Sunday lunch if we’d known we’d be inhaling all the fumes and noise from the south circular. There are no heaters, blankets or covers out the front so it was a bit blustery to eat outside. The squid and white bait starter has gone massively down hill and whilst the Sunday roast was nice, it’s not £18 a main nice when you have to sit on the South Circular to eat it. I always used to recommend the Tulse Hill hotel for food and a place to stay, as we’d never had a bad experience there, unfortunately Sundays experience means we won’t recommend it anymore. Hopefully it’s a post lockdown blip and it’ll get back to it’s usual high standards soon.
I wasn’t aware that they had put tables in the parking space so when I was seated there i was a bit disappointed. There was no ambiance at all.
The table was very wably, the service was very slow and not very good. I manage to finish the last bite and my time slot was up already. I had to get more drinks take away.
The food was good, but £16 for chicken breast and a small pea salad I find it very expensive.
The service charge i understand it’s fair to pay as i work in hospitality too but when the ambience and especially the service are at good standards.
A lovely sunny lunch in the marquee. Food service was a little slow but forgivable in their first week, drinks arrived with a smile and very promptly. The food was very tasty and we had a very enjoyable lunch. We will be back
Heard great things on this pub but unfortunately on the day our starter was cold and main course. I think it's due to being busy and the turn over of people coming in. There was also empty seats in the garden however we were put into the carpark.
It would have been great to have known we were going to be sitting in a car park away from the pub and under a marquee on a beautiful sunny day. We only had our table for 1.45 minutes which again we weren’t informed about - the food was lovely but think it needs a bit of tweaking.
We booked a table in the beer garden for 6-8:30. When we got there they tried to tell us we could only be there until 7. They eventually said 8 oclock after discussing with them for ages. After this, they walked us through the beer garden and put us under a marquee in the car park. The atmosphere was awful and I am really disappointed as I feel I have been misled. We booked to be in the beer garden not in the car park. If I had known we were going to be in a dark car park I would not have booked.
Lovely drinks and nibbles in the garden. The staff were very friendly and despite being next to a busy road the garden felt secluded.
Excellent quality food and excellent portions for the price. Our entire table was shocked by how much food we get for that price. Service was outstanding. Felt very welcomed and staff were very accommodating (e.g. changing a table in the shade for a table in the sun even though was quite fully booked). Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Lovely staff, really attentive and cheery, thanks for a great night.
