Consistently named “Best Seafood Restaurant” in the Memphis Magazine and Memphis Flyer, coveted Tsunami entrées including a spice-crusted tuna with wasabi vinaigrette, beef tenderloin with smoked chile butter, and roasted seabass with black Thai rice and soy beurre blanc.
one of best meals ive had not only in Memphis but ANYWHERE
Always a treat to eat there!
Always excellent. Scarlett’s service and kindness, Ben’s great job st the bar, Ben Smith ‘s & his assistants’ culinary expertise——all make this such a valuable & unique part of Memphis .
Excellent as always. Our favorite restaurant in Memphis for many years.
Amazing food and service! Alex made our night so special. We had mussels and they were off the charts! We had scallops, beef, and a fish dish . All yummy. Such a great place.
Great food and service. Atmosphere plus. And we especially enjoyed our visit with my former student Ben Smith.
A great meal with interesting combinations
The food was amazing. The sea bass with the thai black rice was absolutely delicious. The wait staff was very kind and made wonderful recommendations!
Food and service were great but noise from staff serving table next to us was distractingly noisy-loud laughs and almost yelling exchanges.
I love this restaurant! The menu items are fantastic with enough variety to please most everyone. The service is always great and creates the feeling that you are the only one they are serving. The Sea Bass in black Thai rice is one of the best meals I’ve ever had!
Outstanding food and service. We love Tsunami for the creative dishes, attentive service and atmosphere. Excellent bartender too.
Our service was good and we enjoyed the people watching from our high top table by the window. Presentation was very nice but not much flavor. The bacon wrapped dates were very over cooked, and the date itself was jelly like and didn’t have an appealing texture. The scollops didn’t have much flavor and the calamari breading was pretty tasteless. The shrimp was well prepared and had a nice flavor. It was just off the mark, a little adjusting and I think you will have a home tun.
I took my wife to Tsunami for her birthday. We've been going there off and on for the last 17 years. I started with the mussels in red curry sauce. Along with the bread to dip in the sauce, it's to die for! We both had to get the Sea Bass on Asian Black Rice. It was served in a delicious, buttery sauce. Magnificent as always! The manager, Jeff Frisby, was there and sat to chat with us for a while. There's no one that I know of with a greater love for the restaurant business. Chef Ben came out to chat with us twice. The man is a culinary prodigy! Our service was impeccable! Scarlet when out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed, and the timing between cocktails, appetizers and the entrée could not have been better. Do yourself a favor and give this place a shot. You'll be glad you did.
This was our first time here. I went for a girls night and we were not disappointed. We were seated as soon as we arrived. The table was perfect with a great view from the window so we could people watch. The food was delicious and served very promptly. Even after we had finished our meals, had paid the check, we stayed until we had finished our drinks and not once did we feel the pressure to leave so they could prepare the table for someone else. We will be back and this time we might bring our husbands. :-)
I couldn't love this restaurant or its staff any more if I tried.
Tsunami is our favorite restaurant. We had a great meal. It was the first time our children (ages 16 and 14) had eaten there. Also, thanks to Jeff for squeezing in another 2 at the last minute.
Wonderful from start to finish. Service was wonderful. Food was fresh and delicious and different from your everyday restaurant fare.
First time visit. Wasn’t disappointed. Food was great and service was just as good.
The inside decor was poor and the food wasn’t impressive. They over charge by a lot.
Fresh and innovative food combined with professional service. Lovely evening!
Excellent food and outstanding service
Would most definitely recommend to a friend. Great food and service.
Always an amazing experience. Katie Richmond is the best server! Apps, entrees and desserts five stars. Specialty cocktails were delicious as well. Ben creates fresh and creative dishes that don’t disappoint.
Staff did a great job helping me navigate the menu and find options that were compatible with my dietary restrictions!
As usual the food was outstanding and so was our server, Scarlet. It was the perfect evening to celebrate my birthday!
My 5 year old son and I wen there for a fancy dessert date night. It was the first time he had been to a "fancy" restaurant. Candles on the tables, real napkins, beautifully presented desserts, and very nice staff made it a great experience.
My husband and I think rate the Sea Bass as the best in town! We will return.
WIthout a doubt, my favorite Memphis restaurant. I've never been disappointed at Tsunami. Dishes have just enough Asian flavor to be interesting yet not overpowering. Wine list offers a good selection of wines by the glass as well as by the bottle. Outstanding!
Great service, great food and wine recommendations!
Food was absolutely amazing. Passed by this place several times and went on eater to find recommendations for good restaurants in Memphis for a date night and this was in the top of the list. Would definitely go back again! Good drink menu for wine lovers as well
Himachi appetizer was delicious and don’t miss out on the seas bass! The beet salad was amazing. Tsunami never dissapoints plus it’s a Project Green Fork restaurant. Support Local!
We’ve been to Tsunami at least a dozen times. Most of our dinners have been with our adult children or friends so we’ve been able to at least sample most every dish they offer. Not one has disappointed!! Each app, entree and dessert are obviously prepared fresh with not only artistic talent but incredible mixes of flavors. This is one of the best restaurants in the entire Memphis area. So good we bought Chef Ben’s cookbook.
Where to start. My parents have been coming to Tsunami for a number of years, and they always rave about their first visit. My first experience years ago was top-notch, too, but ever since, things have gone downhill. Tonight was probably the last night we will frequent this restaurant. The sea bass and beef tenderloin (two orders) were overdone. I sent back my beef tenderloin, and it was perfect the second time around. However, it’s quite frustrating when the chef/owner is sitting on his computer in the dining room, allowing the subpar dining experience (or outside sitting on a bench in his chef jacket. What’s the point?). Last week, I was here on a date, and the tuna was terrible. The presentation was lackluster, first of all; the tuna was over-seasoned and room temperature; and the “cucumber salad” was something I could have made at home myself. My date’s scallops and salmon also tasted as if they had been cooked in advance. My mom looks forward to this sea bass a couple times a year, and tonight she said she was going out of town for her next birthday. If you’re going to go here, get the deviled eggs and enjoy an entree elsewhere. The service has been much better than the food, so I’m giving it three stars.
Per usual, everything was perfection!
With Jeff there it’s going to be even better.
The scallops were amazing! Great atmosphere and service.
Dog friendly outside seating. Great small plates and drinks. Katie wonderful server and always like seeing Scarlett and Jeff!
It was a very good experience, good food, and good ambience. That being said, the restaurant had the feeling of one that hasn’t quite found its identity. The food, the look, the feel all missed what felt like just one defining element that would set it apart. Keep looking because you are close but not there yet.
Loved our dinner there!! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars on all is because we were sat in the “extra” dining space to the right of the front door. It just feels like extra space. Would help if it had art in the walls. Service, food and beverages were yummy!!!
There is no better restaurant in Memphis than Tsunami. My wife is on an extremely limited diet, and Chef Ben Smith always caters to her needs, and provides an extraordinary menu items as well. Have never had a meal that was less than excellent!
