Overall ok experience. The food was good, but not as good as the hype. The service was subpar and that was the most disappointing aspect of the meal. For the price and the hype, we expected more.
Great time, loved the “s’mores” dessert. The place is beautiful. Thanks.
This place is fabulous - we’ve never had even an average dish and this trip was no exception. I wish they’d bring back the tasting menu but our appetizers (oysters and escargot), entrees (pork schnitzel and fish) and desserts (especially the s’mores) were outstanding. The sommelier recommended a fabulous wine that I will definitely buy again - ask for her advice to try something new from the extensive wine menu.
The new decor is not much different than it was before, except for the very unattractive mural on the stairwell wall. The service was delightful, friendly yet professional. The food is just fair...it's not bad but it's certainly not great. We tried a variety of dishes and none of them wowed us. I am puzzled why this place gets accolades from restaurant reviewers, and it certainly doesn't live up to the hype. There are far better places to dine, both in this price range and higher. Sorry Trummer's, I wanted to love you and the new menu, but I can't.
We were eager to try the re-vamped Trummer's and see how it compared. They still have an outstanding wine list and the same (excellent) sommelier. Signature cocktails continue to be interesting and worth the experience. We were not thrilled with the menu or the food prep. Very limited gluten free non-meat items. Brussel sprouts and Shishito peppers were greasy. Some things to work on......
Superb service and food. The wine list is extensive, and the Sommelier is very helpful. However, the offerings are a bit pricey. This is a nice special occasion restaurant. I highly recommend.
A little underwhelming. First time going after the reopening and rebranding. Not a great ambiance service was mediocre at best. With these prices it felt a little cheap having to pay for bread which you get at most lesser expensive restaurants. I already miss the old Trummers 😔
I’m hoping the bar remains the same.
We were here celebrating a new job opportunity which means relocation to another state. The food, service , and ambience was fantastic as always. This is why Trummer’s has always been a “go to”. I took my parents here a year ago and they still talk about how incredible our experience was. Thanks you Trummer’s for many memorable occasions with family and dear friends. We’ll miss you and we’ll miss Virginia.
Amazing, interesting food and helpful but not overbearing service. Will definitely be back!
We celebrated our Anniversary this year at Trummers. We had a private table with exceptional service. The entire menu from drinks, meals, desserts was on point. We enjoyed tasting Pinots from their partnership with Walt Wines in CA. The service was excellent, the Sommelier came and explained the wine tasting, our server gave us space to linger between courses but was attentive, and we were treated to a special dessert bite. We are already looking forward to coming back and recommending to our friends.
This was my first time dining at Trummers although I had been wanting to dine there for quite awhile.
Service was good. One small error when the runner bought someone else’s meal to our table.
Love the ambience. The dining room is light and airy. Tables are far enough apart that you are not on top of your neighbor. We were seated by the sliding glass door leading to the outdoor deck. Wouldn’t want that seat again because it was a chilly evening and we ended up with cold blasts everytime someone went in or out.
Food was excellent. My husband loved the pretzel roll, I thought it was overrated (because I wanted to try the cornbread😄). Husband’s prime rib was cooked to order and he enjoyed it. I had the duck meat and chorizo gumbo for a starter and it was one of the best up I have ever tasted. So creamy and smooth with plenty of meat. I also had the half spit roasted chicken which was excellent, including the sides of squash and cornbread stuffing. All beautifully prepared.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed the main street cocktail, even ordered a second one.
We ended the meal with the pumpkin cheesecake. Scrumptious! My husband rarely finishes a dessert but he was scraping the bowl.
It’s not an expensive meal but the food is well prepared, the portions are appropriate and the setting is great.
The owner was extremely nice and all of the staff was solicitous.
Service was excellent. Server & Somm friendly without excess attention. Tartar was delicious as was French onion soup. Wine list full of options and by the glass has something for everyone. My dining companion tried the Titanic cocktail and loved it. We’ll be back.
Seems like the same Trummers. Not sure how they are casual. Or maybe it is the fact that we that have gone there in the past are still behaving as if it is the same. Did not notice too much of a great difference in the food. Food was good. Service was fine. But I still don't picture this as an "I don't feel like cooking tonight, lets go to Trummers." Could be just me...
Appetizers were excellent. Main course for me was great. My wife’s steak was undercooked and delayed. They were very apologetic and took care of the problem immediately. Highly recommend going to this fine establishment..
Very slow service, exceptional food.
I had the scallops, they were delicious! The titanic martiniwasfabulous!
It seemed like seasoning was missing in a couple of entrees. Salt and pepper would have made a difference in the chicken and the prime rib also needed salt and pepper. Potatoes that came with the prime rib were not cooked through.
Service was great and so were the renovations. My meal was barely warm and tough but when I brought it to our waiter’s attention he had another meal out to me and it was great.
We will definitely give the newly renovated Trummer's another chance but did not have a great dining experience this past Friday. For the most part, the food was good. The service, however, was really awful. We were seated soon after our 7:30 reservation at an round table designed to seat 8-10 people (we were a party of 4). The table was not set, but our server came by fairly quickly and took drink orders and told us about the nightly special. 30 minutes later (!), we received our drinks. We were ready to order at this point but when we started ordering we were told that they were out of the special that two members of our party had planned to order. Typically wait staff will tell their guests when specials are running low. We went ahead and placed starter and bread course orders as we then needed more time to decide on mains. We recieved our bread course and starters prior to any silverware or plates being brough to the table. The restaurant was also offering a Pinot Noir wine flight that evening from a featured winery. All four members of our party ordered that to accompany our meal. The wine was poured (4, 3 ounce portions) shortly before the main course arrived and no explanation or overview at all was given about the wines. In all, the good food was overshadowed by the really poor service. We will try it again though!
Great food and ambiance!
We went for our 15 year anniversary. The new menu was nice, it has a lot of different options but we did miss the Mercy of the Chef. We had drinks at the bar and the Titanic is a wonderful cocktail. They also had a really lovely dry cider that I enjoyed with my meal.
The prime rib was perfect. The service was friendly and responsive.
The prices are reasonable for such great quality. We love going to Trummer's, it's always a great meal
From the moment we stepped in the door, I was impressed by the service. The bartender, hostess and waiter were phenomenal. Informative, polite, genuinely pleased to make sure you enjoyed the time with them. I am simply ecstatic about the quality of the food. True farm to table style and it showed in the taste and the presentation throughout each course was top notch. This was my first time at Trummer’s so I didn’t see it before the recent remodeling. That said, I can tell you it was casual but classy, you feel comfortable but know you are in a supremely polished restaurant. Totally recommend this for a night out in general - not just a special occasion.
Always special here and food was delicious
Always an easy choice on the fly. Good service and good food at all times. Thank you.
The remodel is absolutely beautiful! The food and service were amazing as always. If you haven't tried the Titanic cocktail, it is a must!
This was our first time visiting since before the renovations . Prior to that, this was one of our favorite restaurants . While the cocktails were still as excellent as ever , we much preferred the old menu. The flavors of food dishes in the past were always unique and very high quality . What we had tonight was mediocre and lacking in flavor . It was odd that the seafood dishes came with just a vegetable and the fish ; another side dish on the plate (i.e. a grain ) might have rounded things out . We also found the lighting to be far too bright ; it made the restaurant feel almost sterile and took away from the charming ambiance of the past . I write this with the sincere hope that the aspects of the “old “ Trummer’s that we loved will one day return. There are many restaurants we can go to for an average meal at average price . There are not many places we can go to for an exceptional dining experience, even if it means paying more for it .
Not as special as the previous version, Trummer’s on Main.
New menu was delicious and for the money, a very good value. Portions were generous and we'll priced. Look forward to many future visits. Our favorite restaurant.
Went for dinner on Thursday night to celebrate my wife's birthday. The food and service were both excellent. This was our first time here and we will definitely be back. We had the speck and fig appetizer which was good. My wife had the gnocchi which was incredible and I had the duck. We finished it off with some sort of pineapple desert that was great as well. I also highly recommend the main street cocktail. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
Food was excellent. The decor was amazing. Will be back again when I have the ability to go out without the kids!
Our first visit after the change to the "American Bistro" format gets mixed reviews. The service was attentive and our cocktails, wine and starters were fine. All four entrees were delivered on the cool side of lukewarm (two prime rib and two chicken...all from the new rotisserie). We did not send them back since the prime rib was already cooked medium, reheating it would only delay the meal and result in even more overcooked beef. Food was flavorful so it was a shame that the ball was dropped on plating and timing. The potatoes ordered as a side were very hot so we suspected all four entrees were held waiting for the delinquent potatoes to finish cooking. The menu certainly has more simply prepared dishes but the jury is still out on whether that is good or just giving up on the ten year tradition of a fine dining experience in Clifton.
I had not been back to this restaurant in over a year. The food and service used to be much better. Now the food is so so and though the staff are very nice people, the service was off. There weren't that many patrons there the night that I went, but the service was still slow and orders were confused. The food was not as tasty I remember it being. The scallops were underwhelming. The cocktails, however, are still delicious.
Disappointed that truffles fries were taken off menu. Butternut squash gnocchi was outstanding. Slow roasted prime rib cooked perfectly.
Dined here the second day after they reopened as “American Bistro.” The rebranding needs more work. We preferred the previous experience and menu. The new emphasis on “upscale casual” vs the previous fine dining experience, didn’t seem the match the offerings (more limited). With an emphasis on spit roasted rotisserie meat where most everything is al la carte - you can order prime rib for $34, which is less expensive then previous menus, but then pay additional $8 per side such as a vegetable (carrots) or a bowl of fingerling potatoes or $4 for corn bread. The food was solid but not exceptional. The ability to make wine flights and to order half glasses of wine is a nice plus. The ambiance needs more work - very bright modern style interior with an unremarkable atmosphere.
This was the grand reopening of Trummer’s as an American bistro and I kept that in mind as I assessed the situation. Unfortunately we loved the old menu and ambiance. Trummer’s was truly special. The new rotisserie dinner was disappointing, you can only have pork on Saturday and sundays . First bite of the dish was tough, the fingerling potatoes were cold and uninspired, no butter or herbs. They even charge for bread now. Bar service was at a snails pace. Others in the party did not receive the right dish and most were cold. It was not what we are used to when going there. BTW the ladies room on third floor had shades that were open. I unfortunately used that very cubicle and while waiting for the car we noticed everything could be seen in the third stall. Not the 5 star service, meal or ambiance we loved there. Eight of us were very disturbed by all of this.. Not likely to return unless major changes are implemented.
Excellent dinner. Lovely staff and beautiful space.
Went to Trummer’s for the first time this weekend. Food was excellent from start to finish. Service was likewise excellent. Just the right amount of attention from the dinning staff and the pacing of the courses was perfect.
Will definitely come back again.
As a bonus, enjoyed exploring Clifton for a little bit after dinner on a delightful Summer night.
We have been to Trummer's many times over the years for a meal for two to celebration with sixteen. The gap between our most recent visit and the one prior was a number of months. It was a bit of a shock to witness the tiredness of the staff, food and environment. Smiles were forced and there was little looking directly at customers by the staff. Maybe the upcoming "downtime" due to renovations planned would impact income, but the "roles of wait staff" were delivered as a show too long on the road.
The food, from a Restaurant Week menu was a bit of a shock. One meal, beef, good, the other, fish, terrible. The desserts were weakly flavored and dry. The cream topping must have been sitting out too long. The wine was overpriced for a vintage whose source had been on the vine too long during draught times.
The results of our visit were much too shocking for us to accept that this had become the new standard. Everyone has bad days and after the "rebuilding" we will again visit to see if the new attention to families and lower costs will result in the reclamation of this restaurant's former food preparation quality.
Trummer's is 5 star all the way. My husband and I went for the first time to celebrate his birthday. It happened to be restaurant week. We chose the 5 course meal. The food was superb! There nothing we did not enjoy...from the wine to the entree to the dessert. Our server was knowledgeable and personable. He knew a lot about the food, history of the restaurant and the wines. We will definitely be returning.
We went to Trummer’s on Main to celebrate an important family event, having never been there before and we’re surprised to discover that is was restaurant week. My teenagers did not enjoy their first course of pate and the thoughtful server brought them delicious cornbread to replace it. We all greatly enjoyed our second and third courses! While each course was on the smaller side, we did not leave hungry! The service was impeccable and the ambiance was quaint and pleasant. We left Trummer’s trying to find a time to come back and enjoy another meal!
