Trummer's on Main Ratings and Reviews
We went to Trummer's for Valentine's Day, after a recommendation from a work colleague. The food was magnificent. We opted for the prix fixe menu, which gave each of us four choices for each course. We added a plate of raw oysters (with homemade corn bread) to share. My uni/lobster parfait (served in an uni shell) literally melted in my mouth. My wife's arctic char tartar -- with sauces poured into a ring of tartar at the table -- was equally delicious. The main courses of pappardelle (hers) had alternating tastes of citrus and a cheese sauce from bite-to-bite, which made a nice contrast. My halibut was very light (I wish there had been more, when compared to the ample portion of pappardelle). For dessert, my strawberry & elderflower was served with cute meringue drops (I'd thought they were white chocolate before I dove in), and was a perfect blend of dessert and palate cleanser at the end of the meal. My wife's cheese and quince plate was a bit heavier than my desert, but there wasn't much left at the end.
We'll be back!
Misc other points:
- The wine list is a bit pricey, but don't be afraid of the house varieties which are quite good and less expensive. It's Trummer's own label.
- It is much quieter on the second floor (where we were) than on the first. The bar area (also on the first floor) looked quite lively, with an upscale crowd.
- It wasn't that busy, so the lengthy delay in getting our cocktail seemed very odd. We finally told them to forget about it after we'd finished the oysters, and went for the wine. The staff and manager were very polite about it, but getting the time to get the drink was quite interminable.
This is one of the best restaurants around -- I'm including DC restaurants. The chef is fantastic. It is in the most adorable town of Clifton. I have celebrated so many special occasions here including an upcoming wedding celebration in the private dining room. The menu changes seasonally. When these people say seasonal -- they mean it. What about a pumpkin coming out with a flame to do smores for a dessert for a fall seasonal dessert!
We enjoyed a lovely valentines lunch at Trummer’s . The food was excellent and the service was outstanding . Our server gave us knowledgeable advice on our menu options and guided us to outstanding choices . Thank you Trummer’s for 1 3/4 hours of peace and yummy food . We will come again.
We love this restaurant, our local favorite. Our only complaint was that we were seated close to a window on a very cold night, and were a bit uncomfortable. Staff moved our table away from the window which helpful tremendously. Another great meal at Trummer's!
Visited Trummer's for Winter Restaurant Week. Despite being quite busy on a Saturday night during restaurant week, the staff was attentive but not intrusive. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious. We were seated in the top floor dining room which I've never seen before, and it is warm and inviting. The restaurant week menu is quite a good deal. The salmon crudo appetizer is pictured, although this picture does not do it justice.
We have been here 5 times. I always give restaurants a few times to get it right. The first time we dined here it was amazing.. food, service, ambience... It has gone downhill more and more after each visit. The bartenders know how to make a drink, but when you order the signature/ specialty drinks, @ $14.00 each.... you feel like you've asked them to dig a ditch for you! So in the first 5 minutes ,w/tip $35.00 in... it starts bad. This has happened more than not. We have had drinks and apps at the bar and gone upstairs for the full dinners too. The food the last 3 times was so disappointing. Although, the presentation was nice.. it lacked taste, seasoning and overall, "YUM!" for lack of better words. We waited 20 minutes for our 1st drink and wished that we had ordered our wine before the specialty drink, so we could have something to drink with our food. The waiter on our last visit was good. The man that cleaned our dishes and brought the "horrible cornbread," was very attentive. ( Good bread is very important!) The host , JASON, got us a very romantic table by the fireplace and took my coat and brought it back to me and stopped at our table later, while seating others, just to see if all was good... was very memorable and professional! He should be in a better role at this "upscale" restaurant! I've been in the restaurant business for 40 years. Believe me.. I know it's tough and I'm not that hard to please!
We won't be back. Sorry, you asked for my opinion. Good luck. I wish all well. Thanks!
Went for restaurant week and definitely worth it. They even had a select group of wines on special too. More then enough food with all 3 courses but we did have a cocktail at the bar and charcuterie plate to start.
I would also recommend if you need wheelchair access as it was easy to get in and they have an elevator in the restaurant.
The occasion was my wife's birthday. I made reservations and mentioned it was her birthday. When we got to the restaurant we were seated in a semi-private alcove in a large table just off the main upper dining room. That was a very nice treat, not even requested. It was Restaurant Week so we had the three course tasting menu. One of us had the Cod, the other Chicken and both were excellent. All the food and drink was excellent. My wife received a special Happy Birthday dessert at the end of the meal. The bill was very reasonable too. Service outstanding.
Took a friend for Sunday Brunch. Our server was friendly, engaging and professional while not intrusive. The menu included several innovative entrees, as well as some really fun deserts. The location offers a quiet break from the hustle and bustle, and Clifton is the perfect location to stroll and explore unique shops after the meal. Wonderful Sunday afternoon experience.
Absolutely amazing experience. The food, service, presentation, ambiance, cocktails, wine list etc etc the list goes on. My husband and I were here for our Anniversary and we will never forget our experience and there will be more to come as we will bring our family and friends for special occasions going forward. The food was absolutely delicious and entertaining in so many ways like how beautifully it was presented, deliciousness, uniqueness, creativity, texture, etc. Each dish had a surprise factor as well. In addition, the SERVICE!!! Wonderful, knowledgeable, and friendly staff takes this experience to the next level. They paid attention to the fact that it was our Anniversary and gave us the most romantic seat in the restaurant as well and they all knew what we were celebrating that night. It is such a romantic place too and the food is to die for. I'd recommend this place to anyone and everyone.
Wonderful food, wonderful service. Expensive. We asked for a quiet table, and ours was reasonably so. However, doubtless due to heating response to freezing weather, our table was not just warm, it was hot, though the staff did its best to cool the room down. My single complaint: the chairs. They're uncomfortable. Some are wobbly, but all provide no back support as they cause one to lean back slightly.
Received a gift certificate as a wedding gift. Clifton is a bit of a hike but was pleasantly surprised by the elegant dining, good food, and very attentive service and hospitality of the restaurant staff and ownership. This combination is hard to find these days. I will patronize Trummer again and recommend it to all.
Excellent Dining experience . The tables would have looked better with table Cloths instead of placemats. Although the waiter delivered one incorrect entrée, they fixed it immediately. This might be my new favorite restaurant. The food was excellent and thePortions ample. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fine dining experience.
I went to Trummer’s as part of my 21st birthday celebration. We arrived a bit earlier than they started seating for dinner and ended up grabbing a drink at the bar. I got their signature drink, The Titanic. It was absolutely delightful with the taste of elderflower really peaking through. During dinner, the staff was very attentive and the food was wonderfully prepared - we got the truffle fries, truffle paste, and unbirthday cake. Would definitely come back!
My husband and I went here for the first time last night for their 2017 NYE celebration. It was an Alice in Wonderland themed 7 course dinner that we had been looking forward to for weeks. Unfortunately the evening was quite a disappointment. Our dinner was a $170/pp not including beverages, which is fine, but for the price we had expected a much more “fine dining” experience. Our waiter was pleasant, however the food runners who served each course were less than stellar. At one point the person who was explaining our dish, stopped abruptly and said “wow, you guys are like, staring at me!” Well, since she was explaining what we were about to eat, yes we were! The plating was inconsistent in presentation, with our dishes being vastly different in portion size, along with missing elements on either my plate or his on more than one course. As far as the food itself, very lack luster for the price. One of the courses was a lobster/monkfish concoction that my husband and I both considered inedible. An impressive feat for all the wrong reasons! At the end of the evening we felt underwhelmed and gauged! Maybe some day we’ll give it another try, but there’s certainly no rush to make those plans.
We have dined at Trummers before and have been very pleased, however last night was disappointing. For the amount of money we spent we expected better service. We had a wine paring with the meal in which 4 of 7 courses were not in sync. After the 2nd course the intervals between the 3rd to 6th course were long, lasting over 30 minutes. Then they shoved the last two courses back to back on us since it was after midnight! We attribute this to the waiter who MIA and obviously had to have a cigarette break during our meal as we could smell it on his breath. During his absence suddenly other waiters appeared (late) to pour our wine and serving us. We completed one course by the time the waiter (not our own) came with the wine . No to sound snobbish, but we do not spend this kind of money eating out on a regular occasion, and wanted to treat my 80 year old mother to a special occasion for new years. If we are paying an addition $85 on top for wine pairing of an already overpriced $170 for the meal we expect the pairing to be synced, and the intervals not an hour long between courses. We were there for over 4 hours! one couple who was seated 30 minutes after us departed 45 minutes before us eating the same meal. great concept poor execution. Last time we will patronize Trummers.
This is the 3rd time we have eaten here and I have loved my first two experiences. We were here on NYE and everything was wonderful except for the food. It was beyond terrible. We thought we would treat our out of town guests to a nice place and left feeling embarrassed. What the chef did to a lobster dish was downright criminal and should be locked up for it. I wish I could describe it, but it was really beyond description. We were ask several times about dietary restrictions, so when we said we would not eat the foie gras(mainly because we don't like liver), I was a little surprised that we were given two plates of cheese with nothing to accompany it. The cheese was fine, but for $170/person, they could have done better. At least give me a cracker. Several of the other dishes were equally as bad, but not all. Alas, all was not lost. We did appreciate the theme of the evening and all the staff in costume. Our waiter was great too! The cocktail menu, however, was disappointing . If you don't like gin, and I don't, then you were out of luck with the special cocktails. Just some advice if the owners are reading. If you have a special cocktail menu, 6 of the 7 drinks don't need to be gin, especially if the 7th has mushrooms in it. Alice didn't drink gin in my version of the book. That me being said, I don't think we will ever eat here again. Very sad affair for us.
We went for the 5:00 P.M. "Alice in Wonderland" themed New Years Eve dinner. The staff really got into the theme, complete with masks and costumes. The decorations and menu also reflected the same theme.
Everything about the evening was wonderful. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive without being overly so.
The 3 course, fixed price menu offered excellent choices for each course. We had a hard time choosing because each option sounded delicious! And they were. There wasn't one miss or "so-so" course. The beautiful plating of each dish was only exceeded by the taste!
My husband and I enjoyed our date night at Trummer's on Main. We arrived a little early and had a Scotch flight, and tried their signature drink, which was fantastic. For appetizers we had the oysters, truffle fries, and duck. All were fantastic, just a little too much food before the main course which was scallops for both of us! Ambiance was comfortable and clean. Service was perfect. We will definitely return.
