Went to Trummer’s for the first time this weekend. Food was excellent from start to finish. Service was likewise excellent. Just the right amount of attention from the dinning staff and the pacing of the courses was perfect.
Will definitely come back again.
As a bonus, enjoyed exploring Clifton for a little bit after dinner on a delightful Summer night.
We have been to Trummer's many times over the years for a meal for two to celebration with sixteen. The gap between our most recent visit and the one prior was a number of months. It was a bit of a shock to witness the tiredness of the staff, food and environment. Smiles were forced and there was little looking directly at customers by the staff. Maybe the upcoming "downtime" due to renovations planned would impact income, but the "roles of wait staff" were delivered as a show too long on the road.
The food, from a Restaurant Week menu was a bit of a shock. One meal, beef, good, the other, fish, terrible. The desserts were weakly flavored and dry. The cream topping must have been sitting out too long. The wine was overpriced for a vintage whose source had been on the vine too long during draught times.
The results of our visit were much too shocking for us to accept that this had become the new standard. Everyone has bad days and after the "rebuilding" we will again visit to see if the new attention to families and lower costs will result in the reclamation of this restaurant's former food preparation quality.
Trummer's is 5 star all the way. My husband and I went for the first time to celebrate his birthday. It happened to be restaurant week. We chose the 5 course meal. The food was superb! There nothing we did not enjoy...from the wine to the entree to the dessert. Our server was knowledgeable and personable. He knew a lot about the food, history of the restaurant and the wines. We will definitely be returning.
We went to Trummer’s on Main to celebrate an important family event, having never been there before and we’re surprised to discover that is was restaurant week. My teenagers did not enjoy their first course of pate and the thoughtful server brought them delicious cornbread to replace it. We all greatly enjoyed our second and third courses! While each course was on the smaller side, we did not leave hungry! The service was impeccable and the ambiance was quaint and pleasant. We left Trummer’s trying to find a time to come back and enjoy another meal!
Love Trummer's! Always an incredible experience, great food, and lovely atmosphere. Recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Great restaurant with great food and a staff that is always personable, friendly, and efficient.
Every detail of our birthday dinner at Trummer's was superb. The service was impeccable, the food and drink were excellent. We were there during the Restaurant Week menu and thoroughly enjoyed the 3-course meal. We held a brunch at Trummer's two years ago for my wife's birthday, and we had always intended to go back for dinner - my only regret is that we waited so long! Definitely going back...well worth the beautiful drive to Clifton!
Absolutely outstanding wait staff. Very knowledgable on wine and menu pairings. Lovely ambiance. We went for an anniversary dinner and would go again in a heartbeat. Hats off to the team at Trummer's for a fine experience.
Restaurant Week return.
Great experience was great and the food was outstanding!
My husband and I were celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary and decided to dine at Trummer’s on Main. Dinner was outstanding! We started off the evening with cocktails at the bar ( Michael, the Bartender) was awesome. I would definitely suggest your ordering the Titanic which is their signature drink. We were seated at a special private table that overlooked their elegant dining room. The presentation and quality of the food was excellent ~ I would consider us to be foodies with very sophisticated palettes and what we ordered was “spot on”. Our server, JR, was both pleasant and skilled and certainly helped create a memorable evening for us... The chef actually visited us at our table which provided us the opportunity to compliment him on his creative dishes. We even had the pleasure of meeting the owner. We highly recommend this restaurant for its ambience, delicious food and for its very warm and engaging team! We will definitely be back !!!

Didn’t realize it was Restaurant Week - our bad. Food and service were great. However, we were seated in “the back room” which was very loud and kind of shabby. We understand they are closing for a few weeks for some redecorating/freshening up. Will be back to check it out.
We go to Trummer's frequently, and try not to miss Restaurant Week. This year, after a couple Titanics in the bar, we tried the 5 course tasting menu, and it absolutely did not disappoint! Started with a deconstructed onion soup, then a seasonal tomato tart (DELICIOUS), crab and shrimp ravioli, strip steak with roast potato and roasted onion (also delicious) and concluded with a chocolate pecan tart with salted caramel and a bourbon whipped cream (PHENOMENAL). We also did the wine pairing ($42 per person) and enjoyed the selections. A little different that Nicole's usual choices, including 2 different sherries, one to start and one to finish. The chef also sent out a shrimp cocktail to start which we enjoyed. Our server Larry was a total gem; we were sad to learn that he's heading to the west coast soon. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Relaxing, enjoyable evening!
Everything exceeded expectations, from our custom menus ;) to the attentive service to the amazing dishes. I went the veggie route for the 3 course meal and was blown away by the flavor and creativity. Our server was great - available when we needed him and while very professional, was also very personable and joked with us here and there. Made great recommendations. Very much looking forward to going back.
We really enjoyed our Restaurant Week dinner at Trummer's. Service was outstanding as always. Food was excellent (much better than our experience during Restaurant Week last year). Glad to see things are back to their high standards!
We ate at Trummer's during restaurant week. The menu was still great, and the service was every bit as good as usual. I had the gnocchi. As with almost every dish I've had at Trummer's, the the flavors were layered and complex, a little innovative and surprising (in a good way), and I cleaned the plate. Trummer's is my go to restaurant for special occasions and when I want to treat myself to an exceptional meal.
Great food and great service as always! We love going here to celebrate birthdays or friends’ get-together.
Restaurant week August 2019
We went for restaurant week, which was a good deal. The restaurant is in a cute little historic village and the staff definitely seem to be attuned to people going out there for special occasions. The restaurant itself is nice enough, though the vibe felt a little bit 90s hotel-esque from the furniture to the background music. The upstairs room had small windows with venetian blinds - the view from the window side of the table was nice, but the atmosphere for the people not at the window was not that charming. Staff were very friendly and the food was good if not exceptional (and several dishes were over salted ).
I enjoy Trummers and have eaten there many times. Restaurant week was busy and the staff was working hard. The service was unfortunately slow. After being seated it took about 30 mins to get my drink. The food service was much faster. The food good not great. I do like the new chefs menu and style over the previous.
Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. Good selection of wines. Drinks were delicious. Noise level was a bit high for someone like me who is a bit older and hard of hearing. I'll be back.
Always a treat to dine at Trummers. First time we experienced their Restaurant Week menu. Great variety and plenty of gluten free options. Loved the discounted wine list! Service was excellent.
Restaurant week dinner was fabulous.
One of a few truly fine dining restaurants in the Fairfax suburbs. A smooth "smoky" Manhattan in the downstairs bar was the prelude. A handful of enticing restaurant week items were on the menu. Wines by the glass included a delicious South African pinotage, a variety not often available.
As usual, superb everything at Trummer's -- and the Restaurant Week menu made it an even better value. Love the new porch for dining outdoors in summer!
Had dinner during Restaurant Week. Everything was excellent! Will be returning often.
We were there for restaurant week. We're frequent guests, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and service as we always do! Trummer's is admittedly upper scale on price, which is worth the occasional treat out.
Trummers on Main never disappoints. I have been there twice for dinner, once for brunch and for their annual Oyster Roast. The food is always incredible and the service impeccable. It is my go to restaurant for celebrations and fun with friends.
What a great experience. Restaurant week was such a treat and loved the Tuesday Titanic night.
Will be back with family and friends (:
We were greeted by Mary who was WONDERFUL! There were two of us and we were taken to a round table that easily sat four, so it was an awkward sitting situation. The table was bare, no flowers or candles. I ordered a Jack and Coke only to be told there was no Jack Daniels...even though I saw a bottle of Gentleman's Jack on the shelf. I had to ask the waiter to go back to the bartender and explain that Gentlemen's Jack IS Jack Daniels. We ordered off the restaurant week menu. The apps were great. For dinner I ordered short ribs and polenta. The short ribs were amazing, the polenta was cold. Unfortunately, at no time, during the entire meal, did our waiter come back to ask us how our meal was. He did return to ask if we wanted another drink. As soon as we said, "No,' he turned to walk away. I had to call him back to ask if the polenta should be cold. He was clearly put off by the question and didn't know how to answer it. I asked again, and he told me it should be at room temperature, which I know it should not. We finished dinner, and received our desserts with no one asking if we wanted coffee/tea or an after-dinner drink. Very disappointing experience.
I really like the cuisine and ambiance of Trummer's on Main. The rooms are stunning; the service is attentive, and the cooking is excellent. Its location in Clifton, VA, makes it seem like a country place when it's only a 20 minute drive (or so) outside the beltway.
Perfect night for outdoor patio dining. Excellent food and service.
A bit pricey but the value is there.
One caveat: Have a snack before arriving, portions are very small.
Otherwise, great place, we'll be back.
Always a lovely experience.
I have been waiting a long time to go and try this restaurant. I was super excited when we finally decided to go out on a date and bring our teenage daughter. I was truly disappointed. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the service is excellent, however the food is mediocre and the price is astronomical for the value. We ordered the prime rib which was cold when handed to us. I ordered the house drink expecting to be blown away and was disappointed with the lackluster taste. Overall we spent $200 and walked away completely unsatisfied.
My husband and I finally went to Trummer’s for the first time. Now I’m wondering why we willingly missed out for the past 10 years. The food far surpassed anything we’ve eaten in that price point. We tried a variety of dishes and every time were blown away by the attention to detail, creative presentation and flavor profile. The staff were friendly, funny and attentive and we stayed much longer than our average dinner because we felt so relaxed and at home. Huge thank you to the staff at Trummer’s for their hospitality!
We had an outstanding experience during our visit. The food was delicious, service excellent, and ambience enjoyable. We would definitely recommend to anyone for a lovely evening.
As always, an excellent evening of food and wine, with superb service.
Trummers is a foodie's dream come to life. Excellent pairings through the mercy of the chef kicked off an amazing night.
Good food, good service. The Sunday four course dinner was delicious.
