True Food Kitchen - Palo Alto

The hostesses are rude, and there is no place to wait.
I was seated near the kitchen area, and my guests and I could not hear each other due to all the noise.
I will not go back.
This place is real hit and miss. Sometime it’s very good and sometimes really bad. Last night the we had to wait 15 minutes to get desert and it had melted. The Korean noodles had a really acrid taste to them. Either they need to clean their woks or they are adding toasted sesame oil too soon. They don’t have the right coverage model with waiting staff and therefore things take too long. It’s so popular which might be the reason it’s declining
Friendly, lively atmosphere. Many tempting choices on the menu. I am gluten sensitive so I extra appreciated the large choice of gluten free dishes. I have been quite a few times. I am comfortable bringing out of town guests, who have always enjoyed their meal.
Can be noisy. No cell or wifi available.
Really liked this place. Good food, many delicious vegan options. Wait staff was great!
I've never been a fan of the open floor/ barn-like atmosphere at True Food Kitchen because it's painfully loud in there and hard to hold a conversation without shouting. But... I accept it because the food is SO good. This time, however, I ordered something I've had at least ten times and it was chock full of onions. I hate onions and would have asked for this dish without them but I knew it didn't come with onions. I guess it does now (although they are not in the dish description). I spent my entire meal picking them out. And it feels like True Food has upped their prices. We only drank water, had one appetizer and two entrees (for lunch) and our bill (including tip) was $78. That's not something you do very often.
My favorite place to eat in Palo Alto. The food tastes great and the atmosphere is nice
One of my favorite restaurants. This is the first time we tried the pizza and it was fabulous. The crust was so light and delicious. I normally order the cauliflower as an appetizer but the pizza was also an excellent option.
The food was fantastic. The service was not great but the food made up for the poor service.
So loud (at lunch time) it was very hard to hear the waitress.
Great staff, service & managers! Nice ambiance! Especially enjoy breakfast, drinks salads, pizzas on menu! Soups are so good & yummy!
WiFi would be excellent
It was really bad from beginning to end - just terrible. This place used to be good now it’s on its way down.
I really love True Food --as a vegan, it's difficult to find places in the South Bay that make delicious vegan dishes. We went to dinner with my dad several days ago and were greeted with wonderful service and very quickly prepared delicious dishes. The only thing that I would recommend to change is the quite sour portabella mushroom soup. Thank you to True Food for a great time!
Love the quality of food and flavor!!! I feel so good after eating there!!!
True Food Kitchen is a must when in Stanford Shopping Center. Delicious food and great ambiance. It can get crowded so if possible, make a reservation ahead of time.
Delicious food and excellent service. Very noisy and a bit expensive, but it was a fun lunch.
Great service and food, wish it could be a bit quiter
It took a significant amount of time to receive a single bottle of beer after ordering. Entree meals were brought out on top of the appetizers, before we were even half way into the appetizers. Appetizer plates then sat dirty on our table with the entrees for ages. We ultimately had to flag someone down to ask them to take them away. While the food was very good, the service was extremely poor.
I think I’m shooting myself in the foot by giving 5-stars cuz wait times and noise level will probably increase if I do. But I love the concept, clean food, innovation, decor here. I’ve been extremely impressed by most (but not all) menu offerings. Im a healthy eater (usually), and I don’t feel yucky after eating here.
Our server was amazingly friendly and fun, this last time. Staff is generally notably accommodating, enthusiastic, progressive, aware (including asking about food allergies!👍🏽)
BUT THE ACOUSTICS MAKE FOR A LOUD EXPERIENCE. HARD TO HEAR CONVERSATION, esp across the table, so beware in case you have someone with hearing challenges, have someone who can’t speak loudly, or it’s important to listen carefully during your conversation. (Might be perfect option if you don’t want to hear ;-))
In Palo Alto, you can sit outside where it’s quieter and space heaters are available. But you’re basically in a (upscale) shopping mall parking lot; but it can work.
Please don’t raise prices so I can keep returning! :-D
The food and service was excellent. It was great to know that we could dine out on food sustainably farmed and healthy. The wine was also excellent and when we weren’t sure what to order, the waiter offered several tastings. The only negative was the high noise level.
Food is EXCELLENT! Prices a bit high. Loud and slow service at times.
I like almost everything on the menu. Only problem is how noisy it is.
True Food kitchen is our families go to dining out option. The menu has something for everyone. And everything on the menu is healthy, flavorful, and anti-inflammatory. None of us has ever had a bad bite here. We love this restaurant!
I’m not what happened to True Food. We went for Mother’s Day. The charred cauliflower was okay, but the sauce was bitter. The chicken satay was okay, but the peanut sauce on the side was congealed. The asparagus dish was terrible. There was a white substance under the asparagus that was flavorless and added a weird texture to the dish, but the worst part was the “pickled” strawberries. I don’t know why this dish is on the menu. The boys ordered beef burgers. I won’t repeat their comments, but suffice to say they found nothing special about the burger. My curry with shrimp was delicious. One son got the chicken wrap that he said was bland. Another also got the chicken sausage and egg sandwich that he stated was good. For dessert, I ordered the key lime mousse and chai. The chai never arrived. The key lime mouse had those same weird strawberries on top (diced this time) and I couldn’t taste lime in the dessert. Each person took one bite of the dessert and laughed. It was not good and it was not key lime. I’m not sure what happened here. In the past, I have enjoyed the dishes at True Food. Service was average. Forgetting the chai and charging us for it was unforgivable, but we just wanted to leave at that point. Not sure I’ll be back. There is a way to make delicious, clean, healthy food that will make folks want to leave their own kitchen. This wasn’t it.
Such a good menu, always hard to choose what to order! Everything yummy and healthy.
Took longer than should for food to come. They seemed to be overly busy with takeout orders. A "polenta" dish had a minimum of actual polenta. Very noisy, even though not full.
This is a vegan person’s paradise!! I had key lime pie for dessert!! And it was soooo yummy. I’ve eaten here twice now and food never disappoints. So many gluten free and vegan choices!! And they change the menu often so always have new things. It’s a little loud, but other than that, it’s perfect!!!
This healthy- fare spot is very conveniently located near Bloomingdales at Stanford Shopping Center. The food was good - very fresh, healthy, organic and generous portions. Unfortunately, the noise level in the restaurant made our family reunion lunch very difficult. We had to shout to one another across the table to be heard. Service was a bit frantic and overly- focused on upselling their drinks, specials & server favorites.
Don’t expect an intimate or cozy setting, but the food is good with many vegan- friendly options.
The food, atmosphere, and service were all great! I will definitely be back soon.
Fantastic food with thoughtfully chosen ingredients. If you can get seated outside, it’s worth waiting for because inside is so loud that it’s painful.
Signs of age are beginning to upend what was reliably excellent food here. Go to Roasted Cauliflower signature dish with dates, pistachios, fresh herbs and harissa was much more limp and greasy than crisp and incredibl, with minimal nuts dates and herbs. Where have you gone old friend?
Tried two new dishes--asparagus with arugula and lemon ricotta up next. I love the intense flavor of the lemon in the same cheese on their lasagne, but on this salad the lemon flavor was almost nonexistent. Asparagus was well roasted, arugula fresh, but the dish did not pop and sing.
Finally, chicken satay with spicy hummus. Whomever was in the kitchen tonight seemed to lack TFK's usual flair for flavors. Not enough oomph or taste to order this again either.
My companion, however, chose right and had the tofu curry dish with chicken which oozed the perfect curry balance and intensity, crispy grilled chicken and veggies. This is worth repeating.
I haven't given up on this restaurant but this visit was a major disappointment.
Went to True Food with my brother. He had a chicken dish, I had the chopped salad. Both were very good. Service was also very good.
Best food on the peninsula. Flavors I cannot duplicate at home. Pricey but the place I want to be at for my birthday and any special holiday.
Our meals in the past have been wonderful. Unfortunately, the seasonal Korean bowl was overwhelmingly salty. Love most foods, but have never had Korean food quite like this. We did bring home what wasn't eaten was even able to enjoy the pickled mushrooms when sauce wasn't so concentrated. Our only "miss" of all our meals at True Foods.
Service was horrible! Lattes arrived cold, asked politely for warmer drinks, they returned 10 minutes later with same drinks and they were still Luke warm! We asked for water which never arrived so I had to get up from the table and grab glasses and a pitcher from bus station. Dirty dishes were never cleared from our table and we had to wave down our waiter for the check after we sat waiting at least 30 + minutes after we had completed our meal. We were completely ignored.
We've eaten here many times but this was the first time we tried brunch here. It was really disappointing, the portions were exceptionally small and the prices were exceptionally high. Nothing was outstanding which when we usually come for lunch or early dinner everyone is happy. Not this time 🤔
Much too noisy with the open layout. Don’t like to shout throughout dinner
My only complaint is the fact that they had no bathrooms that night and you had to go to Bloomingdales and it closed so then you had to go halfway thru the mall to go to the bathroom. It appeared the sinks were broken so why couldn’t they just buy wipes.
Very very noisy, difficult to hear our companions—friends we had not seen in years and were trying to catch up. Service very hurried, no check back or water refill food excellent, but rest mediocre ...
We love this place for a date night or with our kids. Great for breakfast lunch and dinner. Good wine list fun cocktails fresh healthy foods and options
