The food was very good for the most part, including the edamame dumplings, grilled salmon, and chicken avocado wrap. The health shot was interesting and tasty. The seeds in the farro that came with the salmon were way too hard, almost like rocks.
Stars off for the service that night. We were at our table for 15 minutes without anyone coming over. I went up to the hostess to ask if we could get a waiter/waitress and still waited another five minutes without any service before I flagged down a passing waitress to ask if someone could take our order. They kept trying to serve us things that another table ordered and separately the folks next to us kept asking for things they ordered that never ended up coming. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating but it seemed disorganized and without the proper communication.
Very reluctant to ever return to a True Food Kitchen after our dining experience tonight. Our party of three had one of the most neglectful servers I’ve had in a long time, and there weren’t even many people in the restaurant when we arrived at 5 PM. It took 40 minutes to get appetizers after we ordered, and the worst parts were that other people who arrived after us were already eating, our server did not check in with us until we flagged him down, and he was completely unapologetic and blamed it on a “backup” in the kitchen. However, when we received the food, it was stale and lukewarm, having clearly been sitting there for some time. Our server didn’t refill glasses on the regular and although a lot of people were working there, the vibe was extremely lackadaisical.
Portions were quite small for the prices and food quality/freshness was just okay. Also, their happy hour specials are only available if sitting at the bar, which is B.S. The atmosphere is nice but since the building is mostly glass, it was quite chilly inside.
Food-wise, we got Brussels sprouts and Gorgonzola-fig flatbread as appetizers. The flavors were good but everything needed salt and the Brussels sprouts weren’t trimmed at all and had tough bases still attached - I’ve never seen that in a restaurant before! Flatbread was really tasty but it was a pathetically small 4 pieces. My husband’s burger didn’t have much flavor and my mom’s pizza was lukewarm. My ancient grains bowl was probably the highlight, but at $18 I can’t say it was worth it. We had the squash pie for dessert and although tasty, again it wasn’t a $9 dessert. There are such better places in Philly that aren’t chains, serving better-quality food, better service, at these prices. True Food is the worst of suburbia.
In all, this place is overpriced and disappointing, ESPECIALLY considering the caliber (or lack thereof) of service provided. They should be embarrassed but somehow I don’t think anyone here cares. Not recommended.
Good Morning, Thank you for letting us know about the service you have received in our restaurant on Thursday. We are taking your feedback and using it to continue our training in our store. I apologize for the way your experience happened. This is not the standard at True Food Kitchen. I am going to contact you privately as well to find out more information. Thank you for taking the time to write the review and we do hope to see you again in the future.
Great service and food
I don't go here often because most things on the menu have at least one ingredient that I don't think I'll like. This time, we shared the charred cauliflower, which mentions harissa (which is often too spicy for me) and dates (which I generally don't like). It was so good. I ate every date and didn't notice the spice! For entree, I had the lasagne bolenese, with chicken sausage. Based on the calories alone (450), I was worried that it wouldn't feel as indulgent as I prefer. Again, it was so good. I ate every drop and didn't feel like I was being "cheated" out of cheeses or anything. We were seated by the kitchen, though, and it was extremely loud. I might request a table in a more quiet area next time, if there is one.
Thank you for the review! We look forward to seeing you next time you are here!
Food was ok but overpriced. Service was absolutely terrible. Will not return.
Good Morning. First I want to apologize for the service you received. I am going to follow this up with a private message as well to get some details on your dining experience. We take pride in our service and want to make sure we are consistently improving. Again, I apologize and hope that you will try us again.
Service is always pretty slow herr
The food was phenomenal and the service was top notcg
Love the “true foods”. Delicious, reasonably priced, great service.
We LOVE this restaurant for its healthy, varied options that please everyone in the family. The staff is very kind and accommodating. On this visit, the restaurant was nearly empty - Eagles game that evening ;) While we saw plenty of servers standing about the service itself was extremely slow and there were only 2 people in our party. My meal (the delicious tacos) came out cold and wet. The server stopped by to ask how the food was before I had even had a bite and then could not be found to give actual feedback. I was surprised the meal took 1 1/2 hours for 2 people to have a cup of soup, a sandwich and tacos and a slice of pie. As I said, we really enjoy this restaurant and continue to go back. I do not want to leave a negative review but we find the quality and service to be hit or miss.
Portions were somewhat small for the price. The bowl of soup was half full.
Food as usual was very good.....service was a bit slow. We ordered the Cauliflower appetizer. Came with no pistachios, the waitress said it must of got mixed up with another order and apologized. A fix would have been a better solution. Everything else was excellent as usual.
Food was great. Great service and staff was very helpful and friendly.
Our server and service were outstanding. The food wasn’t as good as I remembered.
Great great food and fun cocktails. You won’t get healthy and unique choices like these anywhere else! Great for a group!
Loved the food and the service was great! The room was modern and very nice but the open space made for a noisy space. The cost was a bit high but considering you are eating organic and special made food that is gluten free and anti-inflammatory. I would go again and recommend to others for sure.
Food was delish, especially the butternut squash pizza. It was my birthday, so they were kind enough to offer me a complimentary dessert.
Having been there for lunch and liked it, thought we’d try it for dinner. Empty because it was New Years Day, so it was usually quiet. Dinner choices were healthy and delicious...I tried the lasagne with chicken fennel sausage and my partner had the poke bowl...everything was well seasoned, not as salty as usual in restaurants and portions were filling
Ambiance was lovely
Wait staff disinterested
I emailed them for my garlic allergy
She had no clue did not want to engage
Gave me long list of what the kitchen could not do
Then my request to check what the kitchen could prepare for me
Finally a food manger did come and chef made entree for me
It was ok prepared but by then I was a bit disappointed
Overall it’s expensive but mediocre
Used to be very nice
Love this restaurant. Amazing ingredients, innovative cocktails and the staff is fantastic!
Only thing that is a slight distraction is that these restaurants have no noise-canceling abilities and its hard to engage in a conversation at times.
On Jan. 1, I had a reservation for lunch with my daughter. Our waitress, Josie, was great and attentive. She asked how our food was...my daughter commented that the brussel sprouts appetizer was a little salty. Alexis, Assist. Mgr. came to our table and wanted to replace it but we declined and said we would eat it. She was so so pleasant and concerned.. I later spoke to Joel Stark, Manager. I reminded him that we were there last year on New Years also and he came over to our table. Again, he apologized for the saltiness of the food. The entire lunch experience was very pleasant and the atmosphere was great. It was very lively and we were treated "special" by everyone at True Food. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.
We were there on New Year’s Day. The food and the service were wonderful.
The food was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very helpful.
It was extremely noisy.
The food was cold.
Would not go back or recommend.
We were there between shifts, our app came before our drink order. Fairly disorganized
Brussel sprouts and cauliflower were excellent. I thought the cold drink was ok (coconut pineapple) but it seemed watery. I did like the tulsi tea with honey ginger and lemon. Butternut squash pie was excellent.
It was great! Can’t wait to go back
First to give you a little background. I was a regular at True Foods in the past. Stopped going for a while because the quality was slipping. Yesterday I decided to give it a try again. Three of us went for dinner.
Had to send 2 meals back once and the 3rd meal had to be sent back twice. Uncooked sweet potatoes. Couldn't even pierce it with a fork. The 3rd meal was loaded with salt. The waitress tasted it after it was sent back the 2nd time. After tasting it she continously apologized and said it was overloaded with salt and that something must have gone wrong in the kitchen. Had to switch to the Bolognese Lasagna. Not very good. That was a mistake selecting that entree. Gave up after that. Went home to eat. The couple next to us had to send their meal back because about 3 oz. of raw chicken was on their plate. Looked like it was taken out the fridge and laid on the plate without cooking it at all. Also, they had to send the pizza back because it wasn't cooked.
To make the experience even worse, the waitress was not good. Could never find her. We were seated at 7pm and did not get out of there until approximately 9:30pm. She was extremely slow and the cook was obviously not good.
True Foods has definitely changed. More than likely a reflection of the staff, including the cooks, waitresses, and waiters.
I hope True Foods find their way back to their beginnings because healthy, tasty, and well prepared quality food is a great concept.
Staff was overwhelmed. I ordered soup and specifically asked for it to not come with my dinner, but it did. They took my dinner back and waited until I was done with my soup and then my dinner came out cold. We will never go havk
The food is always good at True Foods and of a healthier nature than at many other restaurants. The service is good too. We all left feeling happy and comfortably full, not stuffed, or completely overindulged.
First time dining at True Foods and I was highly impressed! This establishment is very spacious, beautiful ambiance and the staff was great! I will definitely be back!
Your entire team was stellar in every aspect of service and delivery! Our server Ed was a pleasure and made our evening extra special!
Been here maybe once a month over the last 6-9 months. It has gone steadily downhill. Probably won't be going back.
As always true foods did not disappoint! One of our favorites. We came with our two kids (both under 5) for a Sunday lunch (they were serving their brunch menu) one of the kitchen staff brought over a huge bowl of fresh cut fruit to entertain the kids while we ordered and waited for the food. Thought this was very kind and showed us that our kids were more than welcome. Thank you!
Great food and experience. The edamame dumpling and squash soup were fantastic!
Service was great. Been there severa times and the food is just average. They need to step yo their game.
Wonderful food and servers! Way too loud though.
Let me start by saying I really like this place. The server Josephine was fantastic from a knowledge and personality standpoint. The food came out in a timely fashion and was very good. The thing that made me write this review was when the bill came. I wanted tacos and should have probably got something different so that was my first mistake. That being said I asked how many came with the order which was two. So 17 bucks for 2 steak tacos and beans, all good i guess. But I asked to order an additional one and I said I’d try the fish taco for my third. The bill came and it was an additional 10 bucks for the extra taco...pretty ridiculous. I understand an up charge but 27 bucks for three tacos and beans just left me with a bad feeling in my stomach. My point here is two fold - I will be back for sure because I really like the spot, but it’s probably easy to figure out what i won’t be getting next time.
Nice place. Food good but very small portions. Not worth it. We all left hungry. Won’t go back.
Loved this place! I was able to get everything GF even if it wasn't GF on the menu. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful and took the time to answer and questions and give recommendations. If you tell them you have an allergy they take at least 3 steps to make sure your food is correct and a manager brings out the food to confirm you got what you needed. Couldn't recommend this place more.
Had a wonderful time as usual. Food was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. Love this place. Happy Holidays.
