I’m vegan. Waiter forgot the request for vegan cheese. I ate an animal product for the first time in 16 years. Not happy to have that string broken by randomly careless mozzarella. Not happy.
True Food Kitchen was a great option for a girls night out dinner with a group that has varying tastes. We were all looking for healthy, fresh options that we didn't have to feel guilty about indulging in and that's exactly what we got! The brussel sprouts and kale hummus were a crowd favorite for appetizers and we would highly recommend the fresh and light cocktails!
We had a party of six food lovers with a variety of different desires; vegan, vegetarian, GF, fish lover, etc and everyone in our party was super happy. Our service was fantastic, the atmosphere modern and chic, and the food amazing. We made a reservation and actually got in right away. We will be back!
Great food, nice waiter, but tables are way too close together.
Great menu and great service!
The waitress was great and the food was amazing!
Such a good, easy, casual place to go! This place is perfect for a quick bite/drink after work. Especially if you have multiple people in your party that have specific food needs (GF, Vegan, etc.) their delicious menu has something for everybody. Get the edamame dumplings!!
I visited True Kitchen twice in the same weekend! The food is fabulous and the service was awesome. And I love that they list the calories for each dish. A must try!
Pleasant Surprise! Flavor is very hard to come by for vegetarian options. My wife is I am not. Restaurants we can share and enjoy are hard to come by. I have learned to enjoy Seitan immensely when I can find it. She will 'settle' for salads and such where there aren't other options.
Chicago has been a relatively bright spot for vegetarian dining for quite some time but it has been hurt by recent high profile closings.
All that said True Food Kitchen was really very good! She had the spaghetti squash casserole. I had the grass fed burger. One thing I enjoyed very much was the fact that she actually had more options on the menu than I did. Although this is primarily due to the fact that I am a very finicky eater. And I do not enjoy vegetables per se.
They do remain True to their mission where they use fresh 'clean' foods with a focus on anti inflammatory ingredients in a scratch kitchen. Case in point my grass fed burger, sans fries but served with sweet potato hash. Fortunately I like sweet potato fries and the hash was only a few degrees off normal for my burger tastes.
One stand out surprise is the Fig, Onion and Blue Cheese flat bread appetizer. I ordered it for my wife who loves blue cheeses. Again an area where our tastes differ Onions and Blue Cheese. However I found it to be really wonderful and consumed it without hesitation. I will be happy to order it again!
And the beet cocktail the Forbidden Root. She loved it! She likes beets and said it was like drinking beets but it was lighter and of course with a bit of a boozy kick. Overall wonderful experience, and great service! We will be back.
Awesome healthy food and very knowledgable wait staff!
We love True Food!?? The food is delicious
The food is generally ok...but they bill themselves as adaptable and knowledgeable...they are neither.
I wanted a Keto dish. I was told they can do any dish Keto. I ordered fish or steak tacos wrapped in lettuce with the sides that would be lowest in carbs...I couldn’t have been more flexible.
The dish came loaded with jicama...super high in carbs and with a side of beans—-huge carbs I asked them to try again and they gave me plain fish on lettuce.
So for $20...high prices in any place...I got a meal that was not adaptable to a fairly popular diet...
They don’t live up to their billing...and...The place is decorated like a dorm cafeteria
Excellent Food and Service. Will definitely go back.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the healthy options here at True Food. The ambience was energetic, yet zen. Our waitress was a little too in-our-faces at times and came back to check on us often (which some people like)! The wide array of choices to eat were spectacular, and YOU MUST TRY SOME OF THEIR REFRESHER DRINKS - the hangover RX is amaze balls. Looking forward to my next visit there.
Great healthy food, with a wide variety of choices.
We go to eat at True Foods every once in awhile here in River North . We like the healthy choices !
we didn't see our waiter for over 15 minutes because there was confusion with a staff cut. they made it up by comping our app. food was very good and innovative.
They were quite busy on a Friday night, so it took awhile to get seated (even with our rsvp) and then even longer to get a server to the table. Possibly a manager came over (?) and took our drink order and those came quickly. Water didn’t come until 2/3 of the way into our meal when we had the opportunity to ask for it. Our meals came quickly. I ordered the teriyaki quinoa bowl with steak added ($15 for the bowl and $7 for added protein). I’ve gotten it before and it’s been significantly better in the past. For some reason, it wasn’t very hot. And I somehow got less steak this time, maybe three small, thinly sliced pieces? So it felt overpriced for what it was. It could have been seasoned/dressed better this time, as well. We will be back because it’s close and convenient and typically delicious, but this wasn’t our best visit to True Food:)
It’s our favorite and the best restaurant. Our server was FANTASTIC!!!!
The food was clean and excellent. They were very accommodating to my allergy restrictions. Will be back and highly recommend.
True Food is one of my favorite restaurants. The appetizers were amazing and the chicken fennel sausage pizza was great. The squash pizza was not great though. Also, the grass-fed beef hamburger was very average.
That being said, TF treats food seriously and I will continue to go there.
Thank you, for this breath of fresh air in the city! This bright, lively gem is a keeper. Food was refreshing, atmosphere inviting, and staff informative! Just what someone needs to recharge and feel good about the food choices they've made!
Great ambiance. Service very is friendly, just don’t expect it to be fast. Do add meat to salads. Meat not cooked to order. Shrimp and Steak chewy because not cooked to order. Confirmed this info with a cook. Drinks are fun and tasty.
Love the ancient grain bowl. We also had the brussels sprouts appetizer. My friend had the fish tacos and commented that they were a little spicy, but did enjoy them.
We were looking forward to eating at this restaurant while in Chicago for the weekend. But it just didn’t measure up. The chicken dish was overly salty. Too many capers and olives together. The vanilla ice cream had a coconut aftertaste. Service was good. I can respect their efforts to prepare and serve food that is healthy but the flavors were just off.
We went for a birthday celebration. Large indoor space is conducive to much noise. Food was good but not over the top. Skinny margarita w/cucumber infusion was very good... great infusion of flavor. No acknowledgement of birthday 👎🏼. Just average experience.
Lovely place, recommend it .. But... I got the feeling at brunch that they were pushing you out as quick as possible.. They gave me the bill literally when I was on main and the dessert had'nt even turned up 😳
Omg, please come to Ann Arbor. Loved this place! Cool vibe, interesting food and drink options but also kid friendly
My out of town friend asked to eat here for her one meal in downtown Chicago, as she eats a lot of meat where she lives. I was happy to, to see if service had improved since I had been a couple years ago. While the service did improve and was fine, the total bill seemed really high for a small juice, a stir fry, some shared apps, and a tea! Food was tasty, but not worth the price, in my opinion.
Although I am not a Vegan, the food is great ... worth the trip (almost an hour drive) ... great location ... I would definitively go back anytime ...
Awesome, healthy food,
Nice variety of healthy food plus lots of vegetarian options
food is good, but $20 for a half a piece of chicken breast was not worth it.
Our waitress was so rude and inattentive. We were simultaneously rushed and neglected (pressure to order but no cream or spoon with coffee. Brought check immediately after finishing mains but 15 Minutes went by before she came back for credit cards). So disappointing since the food was actually delicious.
Thank you so much!!
Delicious and healthy food. Our service was outstanding. We will definitely come back here again!
We had a GREAT dinner at True Foods! Even though there was a mistake due to a dairy allergy (mistakes are very uncommon here), the staff was right on it and resolved it quickly and following this the manager was very attentive to our needs and my specific food allergy. Due to their mistake, the manager did not charge us for our meal. Although this was unnecessary, and we didn't know until we asked for the check...it made a lasting impression on the attentiveness to good service at this restaurant. Also, the food was GREAT as was the overall service. I can't wait to go back.
Amazing brunch with a lot of healthy options. Their juices are so good too!
Delicious and accommodating but a little pricey for a weeknight.
