About True Food Kitchen - Chicago

At True Food, we have a simple philosophy: serve seasonal, honest food that tastes really good. We’re a group of health-minded people that care about what we put in our bodies, as well as the footprint we leave on the environment. The ingredients coming in the back door are clean, mostly organic (we follow the Dirty Dozen) and never fake or artificial. Whether you're into the latest superfood salad or just want a pizza and burger, you'll find it here. Want a blended juice or a martini? We've got both. The chefs make everything from scratch, which means you'll know what's in your food and where it came from. At the end of the day, it's all about great food and great service.

I’m participating in Whole30 and this was the most sensible option. The server was more than accommodating and the food was delicious! We were very satisfied. I’ve eaten here on other occasions and have yet to be disappointed in anything. The ambiance is great, casual upscale. The open concept is wonderful and the feel of the restaurant is not stuffy or pretentious. I always recommend this place!

I expected it to be healthy but not tasty. I was wrong. The taste was incredible and it felt great to be eating healthy at the same time. The service was delightful as well.

Ordered a turkey burger which came with tomato for the sandwich. The tomato slice was the top slice which had the core in it. When I showed it to the waitress and told her to tell her chefs that this was inexcusable she took it away but didn't bring a replacement. After I was already eating, she came back and said, "oh, did you want another slice?". Hmmm, yeah, what did you thnk?? At that point, I told her no. I also had to ask for ketchup and mustard. She told me the only mustard they had was honey mustard which she brought me. It was not honey mustard, it was dijon, which was fine but she doesn't know what she is serving.
The turkey burger was bland, mushy and salty.
My husband ordered the sea bass which he said was ok but a little dry.
I would not go back to this restaurant!

This was my third time at the restaurant and the third time was not “a charm”! Food was flavorless, seemed to had been reheated and was not as good as the other two previous times. The server forgot to order our appetizer and was serving too many tables and we felt rushed. Actually the whole dinner last about 30mins!

I was really looking forward to a nice Valentine’s Day dinner with my husband, but instead what I heard from him was “Please, let’s not come back here!”

I was very disappointed! I hope this was because it was a “holiday” and they can improve the service and experience.

The food at this location was not as good as the one in Scottsdale, AZ, but the ambiance and warmth of this restaurant was just as nice. We had the ancient grain bowl with added salmon, and the cashew pad thai with added tofu. The grain bowl was very good, but the pad thai had an off flavor. The sauce was awful and the eggplant tasted burnt, although there was no sign that it had been burned. Neither bowl was served very hot. Service was good, but the waiter , Isaac, needs to be instructed not to answer every thank you with "of course." It was very annoying. The bill without tip was $43, way over priced. We won't be coming back any time soon.

Service was good, atmosphere is always great but the food is less and less impressive every time we go! Salad was so small / no chicken, and food seems like it’s made in bulk ahead of time, always comes so fast but it’s cold ! Portion sizes keep getting smaller and for 15 salads and 25 dollar bowls this shouldn’t be the case!!

Met friends for lunch, they started with cauliflower curried soup, I had the kale salad and curry dish, it was fantastic. The burger and poke looked great too. I love how much they care about real True food

I really liked the restaurant. My bowl with an egg and grains and veggies was great. My husband had something he thought was just ok. It had chicken on it and there was very very little of the chicken. It is geared to eating clean which i really enjoyed , but it is a bit expensive for the amount of food. Our server was really nice and seemed knowledgeable.

Very delicious healthy meal, I had the lasagna and loved it. Now you are not going to get a rum and Coke there but they have many tasty drinks.

It’s wonderful to have such a healthy every day dining kind of restaurant. I bring out of town guests here and come with friends for brunch or lunch regularly. It accommodates most diets with the healthy menu, from vegetarians, vegans, Whole 30, to paleo.

Good food, good service, good ambiance, great vegan options. I'm so happy I've discovered this restaurant.
It has a number of excellent vegan dishes as healthful, fresh, and tasty as what I prepare in my own kitchen. The design of the restaurant itself is successfully modern without trying too hard and is very comfortable. Thankfully not noisy but instead great for conversing with my dinner partners. Friendly staff provided good service.

fun place for 3 to meet, have breakfast (really brunch - didn't open til 10 am), sat ate, had coffee. Very pleasant wait person, let us sit for a long time - although we advised that they could ask us to vacate any time. Felt good value for the price. Interesting menu. Would definitely eat at True Food Kitchen again.

Took a friend for birthday brunch. Very lively and positive atmosphere. Our server was fantastic and upbeat. She split two entries for us so we could share. Food was fantastic and very fresh. We had the seasonal salad with chicken and the grain bowl with chicken. Complimentary dessert for birthday which was a pleasant surprise.

Hate to admit, but I was a little nervous thinking it would be way too healthy for me. Everything was awesome. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere and awesome food. There was something for everyone. It was amazing and I will definitely go back again and recommend it to others.

I have eaten at True Food several times and was really disappointed in the food and noise level this time. I ordered the chicken dish which was "gummy" and the vegetables were overcooked. It was splattered with something like the consistency of tempenade (figs) on top which was too sweet and too much. My leftovers which were supposed to be boxes to take home and were never brought to me, so I just left. My friend's experience was not any better.
With so many choices in Chicago ( and their price point), I will not be going back any time soon.

We were visiting our son for the day in Chicago. I was trying to eat healthy and choose a place that didn't mess up my diet. I was pleasantly surprised to find such wonderful tasting food that I felt fit the bill. Sure wish I could get this food in my hometown. We had the quinoa pancakes with banana slices and yogurt topping. It was delicious. The shrimp bowl with quinoa was also fabulous. The pad tai was good as well. Be sure to try the edamame dumplings.

We enjoy dining here, but there are always big gap times in serving drinks & then taking main order. Servers are very pleasant, but too many people are scurrying around delivering courses to the table, other than the person who seems to be the main server.
