Loved the vibe and the atmosphere! Service was courtesy, cordial and welcoming
We chose both vegan pizzas options. Tomato sauce was sweet and delicious. Artichoke pizza was savoury and wholesome. Paired well with a Spanish Rioja red wine.
On our list of restaurants to visit when we return to Chicago! Five star!
We are regular loving loyal customers. The food and service are consistently fabulous. I have no idea what happened Saturday night, it was a disaster from start to finish. After we were seated no one came to our table for 20 minutes...When we finally were able to order drinks they took at least another 20 minutes to arrive. It took another 20 minutes after that for our order to be taken .....and then nothing. We wondered if we were invisible. . The food took so long someone ( not our waitress) came to apologize and told us our meal was being plated right now and yes, you guessed it, it was another 20 minutes after that til it arrived. We had to ask twice for water which took forever to come and it was never refilled the whole ( extremely long) time we were there . Such a disappointment after so many wonderful times there. By far the worst service experience from both server and kitchen I have ever known. My family is hoping it was just a bad night as we really love True Food Kitchen.
Vegan bacon was delicious.
Pleasantly surprised with our dinner at True Food Kitchen. I stumbled upon it on Open Tale’s Website and thought the menu looked good. When we arrive we were shocked to see how huge the inside was and how nice it was (can’t really tell this from the website). We had a nice little table that was NOT on top of the neighboring table. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful with recommendations. The food was delicious!! Only complaint was that they served everything quickly (not use to this in Chicago), sometimes before we were finished with the previous course. We enjoyed our rousted cauliflower appetizer, the seasonal salad was great and we had the chicken sausage and roasted fennel pizza (perfect!). We each had a tasty dessert (I had the flourless chocolate cake- just the right size and very good) and my husband had the strawberry rhubarb crumble (which was not overly sweet and very good as well). I would definitely recommend this place!! With the many enticing menu items, we will definitely be back to explore and enjoy another meat here!
Delicious as always. We are a fan of the True Food Menu, always healthy and tasty. We especicially enjoyed the appetizers, grilled cauliflower and eggplant dishes.
Food was healthy and delicious. The kale salad was a bit plain but the sea bass was outstanding, as were the drinks
This place has a large menu for vegans and those who are gluten free. It’s presentation is beautiful and the food is delicious with freshness and love in the food. Definitely worth coming back over and over
My wife and I have been to TF for over 10 years, since it first was started in AZ. We were anxious for TF to open in Chicago and since it’s establishment we’ve been to the location on Erie St several dozen times. Yet every time we go, the service disappoints. Not that the people aren’t nice, it’s just there’s never been a time where our order was 100% accurate. Forgotten ingredients here, requested items there, ordered drinks didn’t show up until we asked about them half way through our meal, etc. This sentiment also seems to pile up on the fact that’s there’s never been consistency in the food we order either. Portions are never the same, (often erring on the smaller side), taste wavers, presentation is always a mystery. We have adored Andrew Weil’s creation of TF for years and have made it a staple of our frequent dining out. However, there needs to be some noticeable changes at the Chicago location to achieve a similar feeling of those restaurants in AZ we consistently visit. Please contact me for further details if so interested.
Tried this place out for lunch on a long weekend trip to Chicago and was back the next day to do it again! Friendly servers, fast service, and (most important) great healthy fresh food and drinks! It felt great to eat there!
Really fresh food. Very accommodating for dietary restrictions.
Great service and delicious healthy food!
Was so happy to bring a visiting Celiac friend to this great, inviting space. She was thrilled with the plethora of gluten free options available on the menu, and our server was so accommodating with recommendations.
The roasted cauliflower appetizer was delicious!
Very nice menu!
Always a delicious meal. Service was a little confused (we waited for our table despite lunch reservation and many open tables...seemed strange).
One of my favorites in Chicago! Amazing for vegetarians!
Sunday Brunch 😊🌸.
Eddie always gives us great service. Actually all the waiters do. They are very accommodating even in the bustling and crowded atmosphere.
Over-the-top great service, surprisingly inexpensive, and a wide variety of delicious, healthy dishes. Every member of my family, on 5 different diets, found something here to love. We'll be back!
Service was not good. Food arrived before I could get a glass of water. The table was next to a door that kept opening to the patio and shaking the table. I’ve been to other True Food Kitchens in other cities and will not go back to this one in Chicago.
Food is pretty good and decent service.
One of my favorite places to eat if I want something healthy
Great menu, great selection, I will be back
Zoie was our server that evening and she was terrific. Everything went as hoped for a first time experience. Looking forward to coming back to this location of True Food and interested in trying others!
I like healthy food and good veggie fare, so this restaurant was appealing to me.
I ordered the cauliflower appetizer, which was a little small for $10, but the main thing is that it didn't taste like what the description was...it apparently has tahini (which I don't care for), that gave the dish a sour taste. I ate it anyway (I was REALLY hungry), and to her credit, the waitress offered to bring me something else when I told her it wasn't really doing anything for me.
As a main course, there was a special fish dish...it sounded good, and I thought it was good, but not great, and the portion was adequate but not generous. I didn't think to ask the price...and when I got the bill for just over $50, it was pretty shocking to me.
At the end of the day, I didn't leave hungry, had excellent service and OK food. With so many choices in Chicago, I don't think I'd go back again.
Love the fresh food - nice feel - casual but classy
Great menu selection! Our friends from out of town loved it too. The only thing I’d say is the waiter seemed overly anxious to get our order taken which I guess is better than bad service but we hadn’t even looked at the menu or received our drinks.
Food and drinks were fresh and delicious.. actually felt healthy after we finished our meals. Always a favorite stop....
Food choices were varied and very good. Fun Chicago restaurant with good healthy food options
Our waiter was top notch! Knowledgeable and attentive. Couldn’t have imagined a better date night.
The food was delicious!
Great casual dining. Nice vegetarian options. Good wine and drinks. Service was attentive. I will be returning!
Fantastic as always, the ancient grain bowl is a favorite
Healthy choices served in an energetic space. Many options to choose from, including something for non-vegetarians. Kale salad and chia pudding were delicious, fish tacos would've been improved by more seasoning.
Nice airy space a couple blocks off the mag mile. Everything is fresh and full of flavor. Tables are close together so you can hear everyone’s conversations but we still had a great time. Nice fresh healthy choices. Prices comparable to other healthy eats restaurants. Great alternative to pizza and hot dogs, not that there’s anything wrong with those!
I love True Food. Sometimes, they have a problem with consistency, but overall, they are very good. I go there at least three times a week and they need to give me a VIP pass.
The staff are very attentive and the service is great.
I have been to this restaurant several times. While I enjoy the food the service always leaves something to be desired. There is always confusion or it is honestly just slow. In general I am a laid back diner but I just don’t understand why I have to ask for water several times before getting it. On this last occasion I waited over 15 minutes for a beer which is in a can. On the first one the woman was not able to pour the full volume into the glass yet still took the can. The time before that we were told there would be a 30 minute wait. There were many open tables. So we went and scheduled a reservation and were seated immediately. Then after being seated we’re asked no less than four times if we had a reservation.
We wanted somewhere that did great Gluten free vegetarian food- and this didn't disappoint. A great menu to choose from- so fresh, tasty and well priced, and awesome service too.
Amazing, healthy and DELICIOUS food! Everything we ordered was beautifully done. Haven't come across a bad entree selection yet.
I like True Food Kitchen and have been a few times. However, this time I wasn't too happy because I asked the waitress about two entrees and the one she recommended was VERY spicy and she failed to mention it. I did not enjoy my dinner very much so I will now be sure to ask if a dish is spicy.
True Food Kitchen is a great place with healthy options. It was difficult to decide what to order because everything sounded so delicious. The service was also excellent - knowledgeable staff, clearing of used dishes, refilling of water, and everything came out at a perfect temperature. I would definitely go back the next time I'm in Chicago since it's so easy to book a reservation with Open Table.
Good clean meal options! Highly recommend. I suggest reservations!
