The food at True Food Kitchen is always delicious and beautifully prepared. ALWAYS terrific.
The service, well, it is always a little confusing and slow. Sorry guys, I've dined at TFK at least 5 times and there always seems to be a mix up or a delay or a forgotten item. Hope the resto can resolve this problem because, otherwise, it's all good.
Great but loud. Had 5 people and it was difficult to hear everyone talking.
Too loud to talk comfortably!
Food was excellent. Cocktails were the weak link and therefore 4 stars overall. Our 3 special of the day watermelon mojitos tasted like watered down lemonade over way way too much ice. To her credit the server offered to have them remade but we chose to pass.
Great food, great service. We were seated at a table very close to the door so we had people standing around us (almost on top of us) for most of our meal. Not the best location, particularly when we had a reservation.
We made reservations for a Friday evening at 7 and our table was ready. The menu was quite interesting and we each enjoyed our choices. The servers seemed a bit confused and twice brought things to us (a drink and then an appetizer) that were not ours, but our actual food came out pretty quickly and hot and was delicious. Really noisy but we would return. When we left about 9, there was a large group of people waiting. I would definitely suggest making a reservation!
I have eaten here many times and always love it. The food is awesome and the ambiance is great. I love all of the choices and how healthy and delicious they are.
This time the service left much to be desired. We ordered an appetizer and the waiter "spaced out" the order. However, he never asked and we waited almost 50 minutes for our entree to be served. We even waited 15+ minutes for a beverage (water) to be served - which we asked for twice. Three tables around us were seated after we arrived and were served and finished their entree by the time we received our entree.
The food is outstanding and skews healthy fresh ingredients. Love the ancient grains w/salmon and the chicken salad sounds so boring but is insanely good.
Good clean food with variety of options. Casual setting. A bit loud in the restaurant, making it difficult to converse at our table of six
It is a great concept and neat place. Really good food in particular the roasted cauliflower and Penang curry. Kids liked the pizza. It was REALLY hot in there. Uncomfortable.
Never disappointed with any TFK
Ancient Grains my favorite !
I like how healthy True Fooda is and my husband and I like to go to the one here in Chicago regularly .
The food was delicious, can't wait to go back and try a different food. Every person trying to be healthy should go there and fall in love.
Got there at 10 minutes early made us wait for 20 minutes ,place was empty. Horrible service but good food will most likely just be takeout from now on
I went to True Food twice - the first time I didn't have a reservation and me and a co-worker sat at the counter and had a GREAT EXPERIENCE. The service at the counter was superb and the food was fresh, good and exceeded my expectations.
For my second visit I made a reservation to take 3 of my co-workers out for a team lunch. This lunch was AWFUL and the experience was such that I would never consider going back. Here's why...
When we arrived at the hostess stand we met 2 very young girls who were trained to review reservations and seat people - that's it. They had zero interest in engaging us, or facilitating a positive experience. Our waitress was apparently trained by the same person who trained the hostesses - She could not care less what we ordered, or whether we were happy.
For my meal, I decided to repeat the same meal I had on my initial visit - Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication with the waitress and I was served something I did not order, nor could I eat due to dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, my waitress NEVER came back to check on the table. Finally, I flagged down a bus boy who was able to locate our waitress. By the time she came to table my table had already finished, and I had not eaten one bite. Our waitress could not care less -
When we left, I was going to talk to a manager but when I went to the hostess stand, it was painfully obvious that nobody cares at this restaurant. I spent $120 on lunch for 4 people and stopped to pick up a sald on my way back to work.
This place is very well designed - and the food is good, but the level of people who are working here do not deliver service for a $30/per person lunch.
I will never return - too many better options -nearby in River North.
This is my new go-to place for a quick lunch. Love it but wish they work on the dessert menu, which is very mediocre.
Love this place for the vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options - a one stop shop for those of us trying to improve our lives through better eating.
Food was good but failed to mark the opentable reservation and I was emailed that I did not attend.
Friends were in town, and we had a vegetarian, a vegan, and two omnivores. Good place for all to be taken care of. Food was really good, and atmosphere was great. Wish I had tried some of the teas and kombucha options. Recommended.
Healthy, good tasting and innovative food. A real winner!
Sadly True Food is off my list of the few places I will return to in the city. First, they made a big deal about changing my reservation to 8pm from 7.30pm yet the place had MANY empty tables. Our entrees came out while we were still enjoying our appetizers so we sent them back. When they came back, the ancient grains bowls were dried up & veggies shriveled. We asked for something fresher & the manager came to take our dishes away. A few minutes later, the bowls came back in a veteran state but lukewarm, at best. Clearly not made to order or heated properly. I can go to fast food for 1/3 the price if I want precooked food.
Chicago is filled with restaurants but True Food was one of the few I returned to several times. Not any longer...plus the place was empty when we left @9.25pm despite open table suggesting that’s the only time for a reservation?!
Menu is interesting with a lot of choices so even someone who is not vegan or vegetarian can find something. The kale guacamole was very good, though the amount of pita chips were a little skimpy. We probably could have asked for more chips. The spaghetti squash casserole with tofu was also a fairly small portion for the price. The pad Thai with cashews was somewhat spicier than I expected and this should be noted on the menu. Overall the place is very nice and we’ll return sometime to try different dishes.
Food was great! My only complaint is that the music is too loud.
I'm not on friendly terms with vegetables, but the options were varied enough (able to add a meat/seafood) and made everything we had delicious.
Use to be a favorite, last couple times the food has been sub-par. Disappointing.
Fresh and healthy food
The food was excellent and our waiter Patrick was patient and attentive.
Seems they need to work out some service issues! Long wait for a glass of wine and water. Long line to get in (luckily we had reservations) but many open tables.
Ordered a salad that was incredibly overpriced and very small. Hardly enough for one person
Nice place, very good food.
The noise lever was a bit too high.
Everything was a bit rushed. We prefer to sit and enjoy good food - slowly !
True Food Kitchen Never disappoints.
Fresh healthy ingredients.
Offers seasonal selections as well as tried and true.
I tried the Watermelon Mojito and it was light and refreshing!
Loved it! Food and service was great. Favorite spot in the city.
My friends and I really enjoyed our experience! The food was good, and the service was even better. We had a little mishap but management took care of it quickly and offered us complimentary dessert.
Incredible. The food was beyond delicious, beautiful, and artfully planned and prepared. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and positive. We loved anything about this restaurant!
Server was extremely knowledgeable about the new menu & helped recommend a great appetizer we had never tried before.
I went to True Food for dinner, as I was entertaining an out-of-town vegan. Great for him; solid for me. Loved the kale salad! Cauliflower mac was bland (to both of us). The server recommended a vegan bowl for him (which he loved) and I had the chicken sausage/spinach lasagna. My lasagna had ALOT of cream and not enough of the gooey cheesiness you get in traditional lasagna. The flavors were great and I truly enjoyed the addition of the chicken sausage...just wish it wasn't so creamy.
Good wine list and my vegan friend is looking forward to going back.
Loved the food. Conversation was difficult due to hard surfaces.
For someone with dietary restrictions who hates to bother the servers for specific requests this place was heaven!! Our server was so helpful. It’s so easy to eat clean here!
It's hard to find restaurants that offer such a tasty alternative to dairy free and gluten free but This one is awesome! Very healthy and I could choose from so many things on the menu with my dietary preferences! They get it!
True Food could be a really good restaurant for after work dinners or even a casual weekend, but it is either woefully understaffed, or there are simply no work-flow systems. All the food we tried was good, some more successful than others, as is typical; but all I really remember from the evening is that the service was painful. Our server was very nice and personable, but could not handle the number of tables that he had. The kitchen was ridiculously slow as was the bar. The manager was very apologetic and very candid in her assessment that it's hard to get good, reliable staff; but at the end of the day, that doesn't make it better. We were offered dessert on the house as a balm for having to wait probably 45 minutes for paid thai, but declined because we didn't want to wait for it. True Food could be the ideal place to grab a quick bite with a friend after work or after the gym, but it's not because there is nothing quick about it. It's a two hour meal.
