I've had great food in the past at TFK but this time was a different experience. In short our food that we ordered at 7:30 still wasn't there by 9pm so we left. We had a 7:30pm reservation, we were early so they sat us at 7:15 (many many tables open). We waited over 20 minutes to meet our server, who then we ordered our drinks and food right away (A water, a can of beer, cauliflower app, a pizza and a grain bowl). We didn't get our appetizer for 45 minutes. Our server acknowledge that our food and drinks took a long time (we didnt say anything) but then tables who got there 45 minutes after us started getting food but we still hadn't gotten ours. Even the table next to us was asking if we were waiting for food it was so obvious. Finally at 9:10pm we told him we were leaving. Such a bummer since we were celebrating my partners promotion and literally never got our dinner. Our server offered for us to speak with the manager (we really just wanted some food not to complain to someone else), we waited 15 more minutes but no one came so we left.

Lots of fresh, delicious food including many vegan options. I really enjoyed the non-alcohol drink option featuring Seedlip. Our server and the manager provided great service and went above and beyond to accommodate me with some difficult food allergies. The outdoor seating ambiance is very nice (aside from loud cars passing by, which is to be expected when dining outdoors in a city). The seasonal squash pie is a must!

I was disappointed that my food contained the allergens that I requested to keep out. It took a long time before our server came back to check on us after receiving our food. Everything was cold by the time the situation was resolved. I requested that the kitchen staff be alerted to pay attention when the serving staff gives them instructions. Otherwise, people like me won't be returning.

Quality of the food seems to have gotten worse. Service is bad if you are there close to closing time as the help is busy cleaning and ignores the patrons.

Great service and food as always. We were early for our reservation but they were super awesome about accommodating us. I love that their foods are healthy and have ingredients like quinoa, veggies and fish as this is my favorite combination of food! The avocado edamame dip was amazing, and I would love to learn how to make it!

Service was very very slow. Waitstaff didn’t put in our appetizer order and brought after our meal. Asked for hot water and didn’t refill until we were paying. Asked for no dairy on salad and it and it came with cheese!

Given the poor service, we were surprised that our meals were delicious. Everything else was a mess. One of the hostesses never made eye contact and seemed annoyed that we needed help to find our table. The appetizers arrived at the same time as the entrées, despite our asking for them to be served in courses. They all arrived before our drinks did. The drinks were mediocre at best. We went a very very long time without seeing our waitress again. We tried really hard to order dessert but ultimately gave up because our waitress never returned It took us 30 minutes to get the check. And we ultimately walked the credit card into the restaurant and asked someone else for help to pay our bill.

The seasonal roasted corn soup was very good, it had hatch green chili peppers which added a spicy kick. I would definitely order it again. The tomato/watermelon salad was less successful. The watermelon was not sweet or juicy; it was mealy. Although the salad dressing was tangy and made the salad “tolerable”. According to one of my dining companions the trout was tender and very good. The other friend ordered a grain bowl with tofu that she highly recommended. I’m not a vegan or vegetarian, and I try to eat healthy, I wasn’t overly impressed. The soup saved the experience for me.

My friend has a gluten allergy, we made this known to the restaurant. The restaurant made the wrong dish gluten free. The restaurant then remade my friend’s dish who has the gluten allergy. Despite claiming to have remade her dish, my friend still had an allergic reaction to the dish. In addition, the food lacked flavor and accurate descriptions which caused several of my party to not enjoy their meals.

True Food Kitchen has been my go to restaurant. The menu provides a lot of choices for me as a pescatarian and my friends who are vegans or vegetarians. We love the healthy food and nutritious ingredients. However, my most recent experiences have not been up to par. On a visit about a month ago, my friend and I each ordered the same dish. When we spoke the next day, we discovered that each of us became ill later that night. Since we ordered the same food and ate nothing else later, it seems safe to assume it was the food that made us ill. Luckily we each recovered later the next day. Last night we decided to give TFK another chance. While her dish was fine, mine was not. It was somewhat spicy, despite my asking about this, and I did not enjoy it at all. I should have returned it but I don't like to waste food and although I found the taste unappealing and did not enjoy the meal at all, it was edible and I ate it. However, when I finished, I asked the waitress for a slice of bread to get rid of the taste that remained. (I did not tell her the food was unacceptable to me since, at that point, there was nothing to be done. She brought some bread which as cold, tasteless and practically inedible. I had one bit and that was it. When I got the bill, I saw that $1.50 was added for the bread. I wasn't happy being charged for the bread, but if it were at least edible and tasty, I might have thought "oh well." But given what I was served, it was annoying. In the past the food has been very good, so I am going to follow the "three strikes and you are out" rule. I hope my next experience is not my last at TFK, since heretofore I have considered it a neighborhood gem.

Love this place ! Reliable for consistently healthy food presented in appealing plating Delicious flavor combinations. Service is always excellent, Cora is a standout. Enjoyed the fish taco, yum!! Any excuse to dine here is worthwhile because you’re eating fresh and healthy. Also try their seasonal refreshing drinks. Creations that delight both non alcoholic and alcohol.

We were a group of Chefs and had dined at several of the TFK’s around the country. We typically enjoy our food and experience but unfortunately this visit was very disappointing. Service was slow, not very personable, food was underwhelming and to top it off several items came out cold. We were a bit embarrassed as we have recommended dining with TFK in many occasions and have always had great experiences. For a Monday evening I’m surprised things were so “OFF”

Have been to many true foods before, including this one. The host tried to seat us(2) next to a party of 20 young people despite the restaurant being empty! The broth on the edamame dumplings was lacking flavor it usually had. I had the kale salad with salmon. Salmon was cooked perfectly, but it was clearly farm raised as it was mushy inside. The dumplings also arrived cold! The bison sausages pizza was delicious.

Disappointed experience as the dish I look forward to every time appears to have been significantly downsized. (Ancient Grains Bowl). Service decorum is also no longer on point as we were treated to an employee chowing down on his dinner right in the open kitchen. Super unprofessional. Tiny gnats buzzing around the table. TF is no longer on my go-to dining list. Sad.

Creative and tasty food choices. Roasted cauliflower appetizer was amazing (with dates, dill and pistachios--who knew?). Jacob really took care of me considering my foods allergies (gluten, dairy, garlic, onion). My dining partner had a veggie burger and said it was delicious, and I had chicken breast sandwich and roasted veggies -- yum! Dessert was exceptional: chocolate chip (GF/V) cookie with coconut ice cream (V). Location is great, atmosphere is great. Can say enough good things about our experience!

From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed, respected and treated with kindness. The host was immediately attentive, as were the servers. TFK is clean and absolutely beautiful. The servers were helpful in making decisions on the menu and the food and drinks were delicious! My children all live in Chicago and this is the first place we go when Mom comes to visit.
