About True Food Kitchen - Chicago

At True Food, we have a simple philosophy: serve seasonal, honest food that tastes really good. We’re a group of health-minded people that care about what we put in our bodies, as well as the footprint we leave on the environment. The ingredients coming in the back door are clean, mostly organic (we follow the Dirty Dozen) and never fake or artificial. Whether you're into the latest superfood salad or just want a pizza and burger, you'll find it here. Want a blended juice or a martini? We've got both. The chefs make everything from scratch, which means you'll know what's in your food and where it came from. At the end of the day, it's all about great food and great service.

Really good food. We drove 2.5 hours to eat here. For dessert we had the butternut squash pie. It was amazing! We also had the flour less chocolate cake, and it was good. The squash pie would have been enough.

Loved this place. Great ambiance and amazing food. Very friendly to veggie, vegan, & gluten free. We had to wait a lot for our server but service was generally very good.

Wonderful food and lovely atmosphere, great service.
Their portion sizes have noticeably shrunk, verified by the wait staff. Too bad. The food is great, though.

Love this healthy but delicious restaurant. You don't feel guilty after eating here, but you still had fun and really good food. Good drinks too - Favorties include all of the vegetable dishes and the seasonal salad, the ancient grains bowl, sea bass and the ginger margarita (I have them leave out any added simple syrup).

My first experience at True Food and it was wonderful! The roasted cauliflower side was so yummy and fresh. My favorite was the baked spaghetti squash dish. And the Adaptogenic tea with ginger and lemon was the best tea! Just a wonderful choice all around

I first went to True Food in San Diego over Thanksgiving. It had just opened so I allowed for that. It took us way too long to be seated and there were tons of tables available. The food came cold. The selection is difficult and expensive. Definitely wasn't appealing to the younger people with us. The noise level was high. Given it was brand new I was eager to try it again in Chicago. Unfortunately, the experience was pretty comparable. I won't dine there again.

The restaurant is HUGE. Contemporary, light and bright, with sunny yellow metal chairs. Tables are nicely spaced for conversation. Our waiter was prompt and efficient. We enjoyed our beverages - one seasonal cocktail (Orchard Bourbon Sour) and one non-alcoholic - Sparkling Antioxidant Tea, as well as our meals. Plenty of vegetarian options. Casual, convenient and quick for lunch.

The food was good but when it came to service, things fell apart. Unfortunately, one of our parties meals was not brought out with the others. The wait staff indicated they would be right back with the dish. After several minutes, it became apparent that the order had not been placed and that the kitchen was cooking the dish. The staff never acknowledged the mistake or offered up any apology. That was disappointing.

I absolutely LOVE the restaurant. I frequented their California locations while living there, and was extremely excited when they opened in Chicago. I always suggest it. The quality of food and service are some of the best in Chicago.

Good creative organic choices. The organic wines are the best I’ve ever had. Great, casual and economical option but n a city filled with culinary delights.

This is the 5th time I have been to this location and I am disappointed every single time. Service always takes forever and food takes even longer. This time I waited almost 60 minutes for a burger and when it came out it and the fries weren't even hot.

Schoenes Lokal mit „gesunder“ und saisonaler Kueche mit hohem Gemueseanteil. Unkompliziert und sehr nettes Personal. Angenehme Abwechslung zu den vielen Steakhaeusern in Chicago. Gut besucht!

One big complaint. The hostess was just plain rude -- rufusing to seat us at any reqested table -- instead insisting we sit in a noisy corner. There was no need since the restaurant was half full the entire time we were there. We won't be coming back and from the half full weekend night, it looked like a number of others must feel the same way.

Our meals came out well past our neighbor's who were seated a good 10 minutes after us.
Our server was lovely but clearly overworked. Always nice to served at the same time. I got my meal, five minutes later, my two pals were served their food. Not exactly professional.

I get it that the meals are customized but should one be ready before the others, there are headlamps at the ready.

Keep trying. Food was delicious. Fun place.

I was told by locals that you can't find a foodie and healthy restaurant in Chicago so this was a big surprise. Why there are so many steakhouses left in Chicago is a mystery, why pay that much for badly prepared (was at the Palm the night before, horrible) and exorbitantly priced meat?

A creative spin on the usual dishes. Everything was excellent. We had a huge group with kids (yes they have a great kids menu), seniors etc and everyone loved their dishes. Their mocktails and cocktails were great. So many delicious options I can't wait to go back and try more. Fresh tasting and healthy without sacrificing flavor.

The food was good. Unfortunately, the service was terrible.

The host that was at the door stood with her back to the incoming guests and didn't even turn around to see who came in. Another staff member (I think waiter), had to tell her that I was standing there before she turned around. She wasn't even polite enough to say, "hello!"

We put in our half our order with our waitress and asked her to come back so we could put in the rest, but it took a her while to come back. The food was good and we wanted to order more, but our waitress never came back to check on us. We finally were able to waive another waitress down and we asked about one of the ingredients on a dish. That waitress said she would ask the chef and come back. She must have passed by me 8 times and never came back to our table. I tried waiving her down but she just kept walking past us. Another waiter then saw us waiving and we put in our order with him. This must be like 20-25 mins later. After our food came the second time, our original waitress finally showed up and I told her that we waited to order for a long time and that it took several waiters/waitresses to get a question answered and a dish ordered. She simply said sorry. Didn't try to make it up us or anything. I was there for my friends birthday and it was very upsetting that the service was so bad.

After finishing our meal. Our waitress was no where to be found. I waived some random staff member down for the check. After getting the check and signing it and getting ready to leave, our waitress finally appeared! With the check! I told her that I already signed and paid. She looked surprised.

I really wish the service matched the quality of the food.

A great locally sourced meal, good wine list and staff was accommodating. We did have to wait awhile at the end of the night for the check as they will cleaning and closing up for the night. Otherwise it was a nice place for vegans and non vegans to dine together.
