True Food Kitchen - Bethesda
Extremely mediocre. Went here because it seemed to be pretty busy each time I passed it, but kind of regret our choice. Our server was all over the place, not bringing us our drinks, then bringing us the wrong drinks, then charging us for two wines when we only ordered one, then at the end adding another drink to each of our checks that none of us had ordered! The wine was a good portion for what I paid, and my salad was very yummy, but the overall concept seems to be prioritizing "hispterish" alternative options with a heavy emphasis on kale and root vegetables at the cost of variety - not a great amount of more traditional staples for people not eating the newer, veggie-heavy trendy diets.
I would maybe come back; would like to give this place another shot because it is a healthier alternative for a dinner out than many steakhouses or chains. But I definitely won't be in any hurry to do so.
This place has potential. It’s so nice to go to a restaurant and not have panic over not having anything to order with all my food allergies. But the service was ABHORRENT. We had to ask for WATER 4 times before our waitress remembered, the food took an hour to come out.. it took so long our waitress asked us if we wanted the dessert menu and we hadn’t received our dinner yet!! My husband’s fish tacos were cold, so I’m pretty sure it was a combo of the kitchen being slow and our waitress being forgetful.
When my food finally came out, they forgot the tofu. Which was the main part of the dish!!!!!!
If it weren’t so easy to order delish dietary friendly food, we’d NEVER go back.
We waited an hour for our food without so much as a water refill. Our waiter never checked back and they did nothing to remedy the situation.
True Food Kitchen is a fabulous restaurant. The only issue is the noise! My friend and I chose to wait for a table outside because it was almost impossible to hear one another inside the restaurant. Unfortunately, that issue means I won't go there unless the weather is good enough to sit outside. The food is amazing, and the servers are terrific!
Food was good. Server was terrible. She asked if we wanted our beer on the rocks... no kidding. After we were ALMOST finished she asked who wanted dessert but never cleared any dishes. She gave us our check before coffee was done. The waitress needs training. It was embarrassing because we were other people we hadn’t seen in more than 10 years.
Good healthy food BUT noisy and poor service (friendly server but very distracted and had to go find her a couple of times....)
True Food Kitchen is my new favorite restaurant. The downside to lunch is that you have the B team working. Our server tried but her inexperience was very evident. She must be new. She cleared our entrees but I wanted to keep eating the kale guacamole dip; she tried to take it away anyway. My companion ordered regular coffee, she brought it without cream, sweetener or spoon. Two requests for a spoon after she brought the cream. By that time it wasn’t busy or noisy.
I’ll return but probably for dinner.
Love the food and the great menu. Cauliflower polenta is to die for. Great pizza. Good wait staff. The noise level is approaching intolerable on a busy night, and when we asked for an open table in the back where it was quieter, the hostess declined to seat us there.
Food is always good. When looking at the menu, it feels a little too earthy-crunch - but I have never had anything that I didn't enjoy. They are flexible with making slight tweaks to items. The salmon is unbelievable.
Very noisy restaurant. Could not carry on conversation
Staff did their best to seat us in a quiet location, but the whole place is very loud.
Waitress was very friendly and nice. Had trouble getting ice water, had to ask several times. Eventually came, but w/o ice. finally got it right w some persistence.
You didn't have the beer I ordered, so she came up w an alternative, but that was disappointing bc it was a pretty popular brand which I expected to be well-stocked. The bill originally came w some additional
charges, but she quickly fixed it.
Food was good. Especially like the salad. Pizza was good, but I don't think the menu listed the onions that came on it.
No convenient parking, but I found a space eventually a few blocks away in a garage.
Food and service was great. Took a long time which was why I rated a 4 instead of a 5
Satisfying, nourishing, well-presented food. Great for fellowship.
Enjoyed lunch to celebrate Father’s Day
The menu has many options to choose from. I though thought the meal wasn’t freshly made. It was greasy. My egg was crunchy on my sandwich. It didn’t seem to be a meal to aid in healthy absorption. I actually had severe indigestion after eating. Just not for me. I prefer a freshly prepared meal.
Fabulous. But really really loud.
This True Foods is a true disappointment! Bizarre poor-tasting recipes and cold noisy atmosphere. While we liked our waitress, the overall service was quite poor. A server brought one of two main dishes right away and dropped the plate on the table and abruptly left without saying a word. We sat at the table wondering “where’s the appetizer and other entree”? The manager apologized but still ??? And my wife’s entree was mediocre at best. We will not be back.
Always interesting menu - always loud inside. Patio was pleasant but we got attacked by no-see-ums (midges) which distracted and detracted from our guests' experience.
Really appreciate their willingness to deal with various allergies and dietary restrictions! Good was great, as was the service.
Absolutely my favorite place to dine out. This is only my second time there, but I can see reconnecting and making plans with old friends for no other reason than to enjoy one more meal at True Food Kitchen! Incredibly refreshing cocktails, wonderful options for vegans, and a delight for omnivores too. I love the airiness of the space, the relaxed family-friendly atmosphere, the way it appeals to such a diverse cross-section of diners. The food is unfailingly fresh and it's beautiful and tasty without being over-produced. Will be back soon for sure, and look forward to eventually trying everything on the menu!
Lots of tasty vegan and vegetarian options. The menu is very creative. The edamame dumplings are delicious.
Great food and great ambiance. I love the anti inflammatory menu.
Turkey burger were delicious Once they got the orders right. Waitress was friendly but seemed really inexperienced. Manager came over to set things straight.
This is a pleasant open environment with a good choice of healthful foods.
Love everything but the noise level-wish it could be fixed
Thanks for all of the vegan options and for the clear labeling! Also, very considerate of you to bring the bowl in two serving dishes, as you knew that we would be splitting it.
Food is always really wonderful, and the zervice outstanding
I love True Food Kitchen and always default to go there due to the excellent ingredients they use and the creative menu!
It's a little noisy for my compromised hearing, but it's not thier fault...it's a concrete industrial type room that is a bit boomy and I've got hearing issues...but it's SO good, it doesn't deter me :)
I love the food, the staff is friendly, the place is active. The only cautionary note is that the sound can be loud verging on hard to hear . Still worth it though!
Food was good. Service was spotty. Bar and kitchen were “backed up,” per the server, who sweetly comp’ed us to a desert and a beer in recognition of the long delays.
Took 30 minutes to be seated. We were originally offered half of a large table up front. We had a reservation so sharing a table with strangers didn’t seem like a good way to deal with the day to be seated. I know it’s not efficient but if our experience was a concern they could have offered the whole table (8 person table in front for our 4 person reservation). My other 4x were much better. Probably will reconsider Sunday brunch reservations going forward.
Great the world's greatest restaurant. Better than the birth of my only child.
Food was excellent. Kale guacamole terrific. Edemame appetizer surprising tasty. Lasagna Bolognese was great. Wine was good. Waitresses were friendly and helpful.
The food, the service, the friendliness... all 110%
My only criticism is the sound level. (Hard to have a decent conversation)
The food was good, especially the starters. I do not think I can return. The noise level is just way too loud. I could not talk to or hear my dinner companions. Dr Weil concentrates on eating healthy foods. He should also think about what high noise levels can do to a person
We love this restaurant. Great variety of healthy and unique food and drinks. Lots of vegetarian options. Check out the Tempeh/Avocado/Lettuce/Tomato sandwich, my personal favorite. Great service and friendly bartenders. We sat outside for brunch this visit, which was enjoyable.
Just like my previous visit, I found the staff to be courteous and friendly. Food was delicious. I had the pizza w chicken sausage and a salad (can’t remember which). My friend had the Korean style bowl and it was very good also
We enjoyed our first experience in true food kitchen. The food was very good and we will certainly return
The location was a good choice for my friend who is changing her diet to clean and organic
It was delicious and lots of options for most dietary needs !
