Great menu. Trouble picking from many excellent choices.
Very professional service and appealing wine list
Excellent service. Great cocktails. The spaghetti was very tasty and the duck was outstanding.
My wife found her crabcake to be small, mostly filler and claw meat (no lump at all) and heavily seasoned with plain Old Bay. Not what a local expects, and not what you'd expect from a spot that markets itself as local.
The rest of the menu is great. We'll continue eating here, just avoid the crabcake.
Food was excellent! From drinks to dessert👍
beautiful location and incredible service! oysters, oysters, oysters. we tried raw and Rockefeller and they were off the charts! wife had the rockfish and is was superb. the monkfish was a bit over cooked, but oh well! definitely worth a visit and looks like plenty of “bar” seating.
It was lovely from start to finish. We were celebrating two birthdays and they brought glasses of bubbly for the whole table with candles on the glasses of the birthday girls. Highly recommended.
The location is difficult to find, but once you're there, it's a beautiful facility inside. Overall, our meal was just okay. The server was overly attentive at the beginning (literally coming by every 3 minutes to top off my barely sipped water glass) only to disappear when we needed the check. The food was just okay. The plating was lovely, and everything looked amazing; however, the flavor was lacking. The crispy potato side dish lacked seasoning and most of the potatoes were mealy and under-cooked. The steamed mussels were tasty, but no better than any other place. The oysters were much more mild than we're used to, which isn't a bad thing, just a taste preference. Lastly, the spaghetti and clams that everyone recommended was just okay.
We won't be back, but it was fun to try someplace new.
Always a great meal at True Chesapeake! The food is always perfect, the service is incredible and the entire ambiance it always just right.
Really very good food, service and atmosphere. A bit pricey but unique enough you won't feel bad about paying once or twice.
The space is terrific and the oysters are the best.
Amazingly smooth operation. Service was excellent, foood was incredible, and atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming
We arrived and were pleasantly greeted by a friendly hostess. She directed us to the bar while our table was being prepared and we had some cocktails. The bartender was nice and accommodating...
Once we were seated the experience shifted - the server was forgetful(forgot our second round of drinks entirely) and the food was disappointing to say the least.
Clam dip - I don’t recall getting a single clam piece
Monkfish dish was awful - dry, fishy, room temperature and mostly one big bone!
The recommended clam pasta dish - sauce was pasty and all one could taste were chives
Although, both oyster appetizer dishes were great and enjoyed by all.
Good was bland and unrestrained. Mushroom toast had zero flavor. Crab cake, which I was told was "hand picked" by Amy twice, did not have a single lump of crab in it. Total mush. Brussel Sprouts also lacked flavor. The entree portions were small and we left hungry. Amy was inattentive and lacked enthusiasm. Restaurant is pretty but I won't go back.
Drinks and appetizers were great! Main entree’s were just ok. I’m sure it depends on what you get but 3 out of 4 at our table were underwhelming but still tasty. With that said the spaghetti appetizer might just be the best thing ever.
I would recommend this place overall, great atmosphere and friendly staff go a long way.
Oysters and mussels and field greens salad were great. Crab cake and soup disappointing. Crab used in cake was lacking lump and soup had more potatoes than anything else.
Wonderful experience! Beautiful place, the food was amazing. Love this place.
Beautiful large space with great service. Food was delicious including the Oysters Rockefeller and the main entree of the Rockfish. Cocktails were superb. I'll definitely be back!
Birthday dinner. Staff started us off with bubbly. Great service throughout. Food was delicious. Candle on the dessert. Had a wonderful time. Servers top notch.
We had a fantastic dinner! It was early on a Tuesday night and we were able to have a nice relaxing meal where we felt unrushed and everything we ordered was delicious. I don't remember the name now, but the Scotch and Cynar cocktail was fantastic!! The crab cakes were good, and I would definitely order the crab dip mac and cheese again!
From cocktail to oysters to salad and homemade pasta: all created a delicious dining experience. Great service too!
This was a special brunch. A group of friends(32 years of friendship), getting together to chat and enjoy wonderful food and drinks. Our waiter, Collin, explained each dish and recommended cocktails for each persons taste. We occupied our table for almost 4 hours and not once did we feel rushed. The food, as usual, was amazing!! From the pig ears, crab cake Benedict and pumpkin bread pudding. Chef Zack Mills never disappoints!! We enjoyed bloody mary’s and specialized cocktails that were fabulous! I frequent True Chesapeake but this was my girlfriends first time. We are already planning our next trip. It’s a must go to restaurant in Baltimore!!
Truly delicious oysters and great service with a lovely ambiance. Would be nice if it were a bit more dimly lit in the evening hours
Cool place. Oysters and drinks were fantastic. Service started out fine but then really slowed as the night progressed. Main entree was good but came out slow and was cold.
Perfect spot for Valentine’s Day. We were surprised by how quiet it was, and the food, as expected, was fabulous, especially the duck.
Everything was great. Slightly overcooked monkfish but everything else was perfect.
Food and our server were fine. The front desk lady had an attitude after I ask to be seated not right next to the front door where the wind comes right in, and also there were plenty of open tables since the place is somewhat empty at the time.
Incredible. Try it! It’s worth your time. We will be back.
Everything was perfect - from the ambiance to the food. Perfect addition to the Baltimore food scene!
Very nice dining experience. Although it was hard to find, once inside we were pleasantly surprised by the rustic decor and expansive drink menu. Great cocktails and wines available. The oysters did not disappoint. We had fresh oysters, fried oysters and short rib. All were fantastic. Would definitely recommend and return. Bar manager was very friendly.
Went for first day of brunch, food very mixed and weird menu. Good chef needs to work the kinks out. Great space and potential!
Food was delicious and the restaurant is beautiful. Our server’s timing seemed a bit off and he wasn’t the most helpful with our drink questions but was still very nice and available.
Gorgeous interior! Great Oysters.
Raw oysters and appetizers took a really long time to come out. Forgotten 2nd glass of wine never showed.
Food was excellent! Birthday treat at the end was delicious!
Wonderful evening. Good was delicious, snakehead, monkfish, oyster stew and MANY MANY clams. Will definitely return.
Really nice ....staff couldn’t do enough for us food yummy
Food and ambiance were fabulous. Service was terrible. Waitress was rushed, stressed and not efficient. Drinks arrived slowly if at all. Kind of ruined the evening
Amazing all around ! Food was great , service was on point and great story behind the menu and vision of the cuisine.
My significant other has had True Chesapeake on his bucket list for quite awhile, and we finally bit the bullet and paid a visit. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and boasts a chic industrial theme. The Fish Stick appetizer and Crab Mac and Cheese side were standouts of our meal. My sweetheart almost lost it when he saw the Snakehead entrée (in a good way), but found the fish to have a strange texture on the palette and didn't finish it. Similarly, I was thrilled to order the Duck-Fat Roasted Monkfish, but found the fish to be dense, somewhat dry, and largely flavorless. The same went for the sweet potato puree that accompanied it, but the pickled mustard greens were tart and delicious. I asked for a beurre blanc or hollandaise sauce to save my fish from being a complete waste, and the server offered a weird frothy lemony butter sauce (I think the caper hollandaise that accompanies the Semolina Fried Oysters), which wasn't appetizing, unfortunately. The restaurant has a number of very neat craft cocktails, but unfortunately, I can't recall the name of my favorite - it mirrors an Old Fashioned. But there is an even better cocktail that boasts scotch as its main spirit, which I substituted for bourbon on a subsequent visit to the bar and really loved.
Chef uses imaginative combinations in preparing dishes. Monkfish prepared perfectly. Could get loud with full Sat. night crowd.
Yes,but only for the oysters. Sadly our food was just OK, We thought the mushroom toast was the best. mushy (crabcake),lukewarm(breadpudding) Beautiful space but better places to go in town...
Great place to meet friends and share a meal.
Chesapeake food prepared exquisitely, with the freshest ingredients, and simply enough that you can truly appreciate the food. If you eat oysters, be sure to try the ones from the restaurant's own farm in Southern Maryland. If it's your first, tell your server, and they will ring a bell for you. The chef is very good at customizing food for those with allergies or special diets, just ask. Bar area is fun and lively, but well designed so conversation is still easy. Dining room is more formal and quiet. Take your pick.
