Contemporary American
True Chesapeake Oyster Company is the first Maryland oyster farm to open a restaurant, featuring oysters raised on their farm in St. Jerome’s Creek, Southern Maryland. The menu revolves around these oysters — raw, roasted, and in signature dishes like Classic Rockefeller and Semolina Fried Oysters — complemented by varied seasonal entrees and fun departures on classic cocktails. The True Chesapeake team aspires to extend the restorative practices at the farm to the spirit of this restaurant with “restorative dining” -- a dining experience featuring the farm’s bounty and sincerely crafted to restore body and soul.

Food was good, but the portion is very small for its price. And I am not a big eater.

Great restaurant! Loved what they did with the inside. Chelsea the manager couldn’t be nicer. Ken, our waiter was wonderful. And they have the best fresh baked bread. Can’t wait to go back.

Came here with another couple and enjoyed it immensely! The drinks are creative, the food is flavorful, and the service is top-notch. We had to wait a few minutes for our reservation table to be ready but it was no big deal. At dinner, we asked for an oyster shooter to be made into a full cocktail and they were happy to make it for us! Oh, and the oysters were seriously some of the best we've ever had. We enjoyed it so much we got another dozen to end our meal instead of dessert. Definitely will be back!

Reservation canceled before we arrrived (we were a bit late, but shouldn't have canceled). Told a table wasn't available, but saw one open throughout our meal. Service was good, space well designed. Food ok, Oyster's great - rest needs work on flavor profiles.

Beautiful restaurant with impeccable service! The raw oysters and crab Mac & cheese were our favorites - but every dish we had was wonderful.

The food was worth the wait. Nice presentation. More of an upscale Oyster Bar atmosphere. Portions and prices reflect the upper end. The kitchen's response to orders will improve as they have more time to learn the menu and process.

So I give this a first-week pass but the food was not as good as it needs to be in this class of restaurant and the servers, while good, were overwhelmed. So, more than once we waited an inordinate amount of time before our server came back. We were ready to order dessert but just decided to say “uncle” and just pay our check so we wouldn’t get stuck sitting again. Raw oysters from their farm were excellent. Oyster stew was a rich, thick monstrosity bearing no resemblance to a traditional oyster stew. Fried oysters were dry and the sauce was sparse. I think they sat for awhile before we got them. Short rib, which was highly recommended, was average at best. Risotto was well flavored but parts were undercooked—disappointing. Beautiful space. We will give it another chance. Here’s hoping.
