True Chesapeake Oyster Company is the first Maryland oyster farm to open a restaurant, featuring oysters raised on their farm in St. Jerome’s Creek, Southern Maryland. The menu revolves around these oysters — raw, roasted, and in signature dishes like Classic Rockefeller and Semolina Fried Oysters — complemented by varied seasonal entrees and fun departures on classic cocktails. The True Chesapeake team aspires to extend the restorative practices at the farm to the spirit of this restaurant with “restorative dining” -- a dining experience featuring the farm’s bounty and sincerely crafted to restore body and soul.
Awesome socially distanced spot for drinks and appetizers. Grateful the employees were taking temperatures and everyone was respectful of masking. Would definitely return!
New seasonal additions to menu were great. Had bow tie pasta with clams and summer veggies. Caesar Salad with oyster croutons is world class. Had new dessert - peach galette with brown sugar bourbon ice cream. Wow.
Our first dine-in since lockdown. I'm glad we picked True Chesapeake Oyster. They took great care of customers' health, including checking the temperature at the door, hand sanitizer on the table (that smells like fresh lavender), and properly distanced tables. Food was phenomenal. The steamed shrimps just screamed freshness and the softshell crabs with fried scallions were such delightful combination. Adding them to my list of favorite restaurants in Baltimore.
Oysters were fantastic -- as were the entrees. Chef Zach and his team are knocking it out of the park -- and the staff is very sensitive to public health concerns and made us feel safe and well cared for -- a great experience overall.
Love everything about this place. The oysters were delicious. I have never had a bad oyster there. The food is super good. Servers etc are super attentive and nice!
Delectable local oysters and other seafood favorites. Killer bourbon Old-Fashioned. Amazing burger too! Owner's really care about your patronage. Ample parking, outdoor dining option, and they are following all C-19 protocol. Just an awesome place.
This was our second post-Corona virus visit, but our first with guests. We had a good time, although the outdoor tables are too small to maintain social distancing when eating, drinking or chatting. That said, all the other appropriate precautions were in place and we felt reasonably comfortable being there. The menu is limited but delicious, and anyway, we came for the oysters. There were only two varieties listed on the menu but we asked and then ordered a third that was not listed. Very satisfactory. The outdoor dining area is pleasant on a hot summer evening and the drinks were good. We will come again.
Came for anniversary celebration and had a great time at the restaurant.
True Chesapeake is definitely doing its part to keep patrons and employees safe. We ate on the patio and it was perfect even in the 90 degree heat. Our food was great. Crab cake, salad, fried soft shell, oysters Rockefeller, asparagus, and cocktails. All thoughtfully prepared and presented.
Amazing meal as always !
Excellent covid compliance. Would go again! Felt v safe
Awesome! Would highly recommend. Did a great job of making us feel COVID safe
This restaurant had it all together! Great seafood - very fresh! They raise their own oysters which allows them to bring them to their patrons a good price for one of the best values.
This was our first foray out since the COVID-19 shutdown began. We ate outdoors where the tables were well-spaced, although there is no way that four people seated together can remains six feet apartment; table is too small. Hostess left her post frequently to spray disinfectant, so a few people wandered past her stand without checking n and getting temperatures checked. Most people wore masks until seated. The menu was smaller than before the shutdown, but the food was well prepared. I asked our waiter not to pour our wine for us, since each time he did so we were not socially distanced. Nevertheless, others came by to pour water, check on our meal, etc. Funny how much this matters right now. We will go back, but not for a while.
Awesome staff and the food was awesome
The food is delicious and the new patio is perfect for outdoor dining. Perfect Friday night.
If you want to begin eating out again, this is a great way to start. Felt as safe as is possible. Sat outside, wore masks in, staff all had gloves and masks. The oysters were OUT of THIS WORLD! We'll be back.
Crab cake was one of the best I've ever had. Excellent patio dining, and their infection control procedures were very well done and much appreciated.
They were super accommodating and the food was amazing, as always.
Great birthday dinner.
We sat outside because of COVID and it was perfect. The food was amazing and fresh. The cocktails were classic but unique. I cannot wait to go back.
Had a lovely physically distanced outdoor cocktail and appetizer. Beautiful setting, friendly staff, delicious drinks and food.
Great wine and food. It was just what we needed. :)
Beautiful outdoor deck - service impeccable. Even tho menu was limited there was enough variety for all 4 of us. Plan to return soon!
Great safety protocols for outdoor seating during COVID. They take everyone’s temperature upon entering, tables are spaced 8 ft apart, and they’re consistently cleaning with wipes.
Their second night open after being closed due to the cronavirus and dealing with the new serving rules. Our experience was excellent. We look forward to many more meals at this restaurant.
Excellent outdoor seating. Felt very safe with COVID precautions. Great food, lots of drinks to pick from. Will definitely be going back!
Great menu. Trouble picking from many excellent choices.
Very professional service and appealing wine list
Excellent service. Great cocktails. The spaghetti was very tasty and the duck was outstanding.
My wife found her crabcake to be small, mostly filler and claw meat (no lump at all) and heavily seasoned with plain Old Bay. Not what a local expects, and not what you'd expect from a spot that markets itself as local.
The rest of the menu is great. We'll continue eating here, just avoid the crabcake.
Food was excellent! From drinks to dessert👍
beautiful location and incredible service! oysters, oysters, oysters. we tried raw and Rockefeller and they were off the charts! wife had the rockfish and is was superb. the monkfish was a bit over cooked, but oh well! definitely worth a visit and looks like plenty of “bar” seating.
It was lovely from start to finish. We were celebrating two birthdays and they brought glasses of bubbly for the whole table with candles on the glasses of the birthday girls. Highly recommended.
The location is difficult to find, but once you're there, it's a beautiful facility inside. Overall, our meal was just okay. The server was overly attentive at the beginning (literally coming by every 3 minutes to top off my barely sipped water glass) only to disappear when we needed the check. The food was just okay. The plating was lovely, and everything looked amazing; however, the flavor was lacking. The crispy potato side dish lacked seasoning and most of the potatoes were mealy and under-cooked. The steamed mussels were tasty, but no better than any other place. The oysters were much more mild than we're used to, which isn't a bad thing, just a taste preference. Lastly, the spaghetti and clams that everyone recommended was just okay.
We won't be back, but it was fun to try someplace new.
Always a great meal at True Chesapeake! The food is always perfect, the service is incredible and the entire ambiance it always just right.
Really very good food, service and atmosphere. A bit pricey but unique enough you won't feel bad about paying once or twice.
The space is terrific and the oysters are the best.
Amazingly smooth operation. Service was excellent, foood was incredible, and atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming
We arrived and were pleasantly greeted by a friendly hostess. She directed us to the bar while our table was being prepared and we had some cocktails. The bartender was nice and accommodating...
Once we were seated the experience shifted - the server was forgetful(forgot our second round of drinks entirely) and the food was disappointing to say the least.
Clam dip - I don’t recall getting a single clam piece
Monkfish dish was awful - dry, fishy, room temperature and mostly one big bone!
The recommended clam pasta dish - sauce was pasty and all one could taste were chives
Although, both oyster appetizer dishes were great and enjoyed by all.
Good was bland and unrestrained. Mushroom toast had zero flavor. Crab cake, which I was told was "hand picked" by Amy twice, did not have a single lump of crab in it. Total mush. Brussel Sprouts also lacked flavor. The entree portions were small and we left hungry. Amy was inattentive and lacked enthusiasm. Restaurant is pretty but I won't go back.
