One of our favorite restaurants. Great food in the wine list is outstanding. The service is always terrific and it is a real treat to be able to go there. Highly recommended.

Really like the new location. French bistro with benches allowing corner romantic seating. As always amazing wines that Chris has hand picked and collected over the years. Creative menu and great service

If you live out of town it is not as easy to get to as some Boston restaurants. We found the atmosphere rather sterile, certainly not warm and welcoming. The food was very good but at the prices charged it should have been, and maybe even better. The food quality and ambiance for the same money or less at Mistral or Deuxave, with fabulous serving teams, is far better. The wine list is extensive but we didn't relate to any of the wines by the glass and therefore the creative 2oz and 4 oz pours didn't entice. With a bit of work, a memorable bottle may be found, but you will pay handsomely and some vintages are a crap shoot.

Great food comes with expensive prices. Great service from Olga. Was surprised the restaurant was not full at all. Think the ambiance and the pricy menu doesn’t make it attractive with so many choices in town. Dessert was chocolate flan! Price winner desert but understood the pastry chef is leaving soon. Wine list is super and once again if you would like to go for great food choices this is the place to be.

We were Troquet regulars at the old location just off the common and we worried that the character of the place would not survive the move. The new location, though, is great. A much nicer bar and additional new table formats (new high tops between the bar and the main dining area are completely new, and look nice.) The food remains delicious (the distinctive butter is carried over from the old location unscathed) and the wine list is spectacular, with both top notch selection by the glass (with optional tasting 'flights' of multiple 2 oz pours) and by the bottle. My wife and I were there on a date and had a great meal and a great. We will be back.

This was the 2nd time I dined at Troquet. The 1st time was on a Saturday evening and I left with great memories - the food was terrific, the wait staff was great and the energy in the room was fun. I was was disappointed with this visit. It was a week night so it was quieter. The food was good but not memorable and the wait staff was in a rush to have us leave. The meal was very expensive for a good but not great experience.

We did the 5 course chef's tasting menu for my girlfriend's birthday. My girlfriend has some difficult food allergies and they were very happy to work around them for us. The food was excellent, wine pairings were great, and the service was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this spot for a birthday, anniversary or special occasion - or if you're just in the mood for a high-quality, upscale meal.

The restaurant itself is a surprise inside. The entryway and bar are fun and you'd never know that down the hall is a large sit down restaurant. The meal itself was good but I would dare to say it was overpriced. We each got appetizers (upwards of $20 each), I got the clams & ocotpus appetizer and my husband got the tuna tartare. They were fine. For meals I got the braised halibut and my husband got the roasted suckling pig. For the price, the plates were very small. Again, the food was good but I wouldn't say outstanding. I was glad we went - it was a romantic date-night celebration. But I won't be rushing back.

The restaurant has a very very good wine list and okay pairings, not sure if our allergies affected the food pairings but it only seemed okay. Very good ambiance although sometimes bar music would leak into the dining room. Great value for the wine as well.

We really looking forward to our visit to Toquet as it was reviewed highly by Trip Adviser. We were very disappointed and the restaurant certainly did not live up to its reputation. Before we got there we were informed that they had valet parking for $18, ridiculous at a restaurant where the bill is at last $75 a person. I had the smallest martini I had ever been served and I believe it cost about $15. The directions they gave for arriving by public transportation were confusing. We were not off to a good start. The food was generally quite good but not at all worth the price. This is by no means an upscale restaurant or a place for fine dining. Even though we ate there late on a weeknight and there were few other patrons, the noise level was ridiculously loud. The exposed pipe decor is at least a decade outdated. Our server was helpful, gracious and welcoming, but she brought a second pricey bottle of sparkling water that we did not request nor want; she immediately removed it from our bill but this shouldn't happen in what is supposed to be first-rate dining. The bread was amazing - fresh, hot and delicious! Glad we indulged on that. My oysters were fresh, delicious and plump and were served with interesting sauces. My husband's octopus appetizer was not accurately described. He enjoyed it but it was a very meager portion, especially light on the octopus. He also enjoyed his lamb chops. I ordered my Peking Duck medium rare and it arrived practically raw and hard to chew. Yes I could have and probably should have asked to have it cooked some more, but by that time we just wanted to eat and leave. I did enjoy the accompaniments to the main course. Any resemblance this duck had to "Peking" certainly escaped me; it had neither the seasoning nor the presentation that fits that description.
So overall, the food was good, but overpriced for what you got and not a comfortable dining experience. We left feeling we had paid a lot and not gotten our money's worth.

We had been to Troquet a few times at their previous location. This was our first time here. It's attractive but not sure it's an improvement over being on the Commons. It was a Sunday night and it was very quiet... though apparently the restaurant was previously closed on Sundays so perhaps many aren't aware they are open on Sundays. After they offered water, they offered champagne and since we were there for a special occasion, we each chose to have a glass. It was interesting to compare our choices but note for the future - ask the price! They were good champagnes but ahem, the price was hefty. The wine list is impressive. While the wine we chose was very good, it wasn't quite what we were looking for but we still enjoyed. As we were leaving, they did ask us what we thought of the wine and when we shared this comment, they said they would make a note of it for the future. And then there was the food... it was fantastic! We can't say enough good things about the food!! We loved it all and will definitely be back!

This is one of our favorite restaurants over the past year. Great wine list with about 40 by the glass. Only downside to that was they are stored chilled and served too cold.
Dover sole and Ragu pasta were excellent.
The bread was like mini baguettes seven warm. Terrific service.

First off, this place is amazing. The food, the atmosphere, the staff! I often used their old location as a regular spot to take friends and family from out of town.

They have paired wine flights for every dish on the menu! And every dish I've had has been delicious!

But tonight has been the best experience I've ever had at Troquet. I had a wonderful discussion with the manager about how to pick vintage wines, what to look for and what to expect.

Without going into too much detail because what he did is so far above and beyond, the manager really went out of his way to make sure we had a magical evening! I can't recommend Troquet highly enough!

Overall, the dinner experience was OK.
We went for the 5-course menu option, and asked for a wine pairing. The food was very good, but the wine pairing was average at best. The wine selection was taken from the "by the glass" menu, which is not that exciting. In some cases, the wines were just disappointing.
Service was average. Our waiter had little to no personality. With these prix-fixe options, what I expect is a bit more enthusiasm from the waiter about the food description as well as the wine description (including vintage and location, reason for the selection, and noteworthy items), and both fell terribly flat.
Side note: Walking out, we noticed that the bar area looked quite lively, and the bar menu looked very interesting. This may be a spot where the bar should be tried before the main dining room.

We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary with dinner at Troquet and the evening was even better than anticipated. Service was great - attentive and helpful without being too intrusive. Extensive wine list and with the ability to purchase small pours we were able to enjoy a few different wines. The food did not disappoint - I started with the octopus and my husband the duck confit salad - both were so full of flavor and perfectly cooked. For entrees I had the sea bass and my husband the pasta with lamb ragout - just as enjoyable. For dessert we shared the chocolate soufflé with chocolate chip skillet cookie - wow. I'd go back just for this.
While I wouldn't call it a "cozy" atmosphere - we did enjoy the spaciousness and not being on top of the table next to us. The only thing missing was some background music!
I would highly recommend Troquet for a special occasion or dinner date and look forward to going back!

We came in for our anniversary last week and were incredibly happy we chose this place. Great ambiance and some of the best food I have ever had in Boston. This was truly a culinary experience; from the wide array of French cuisine on the menu, to the extensive wine list and extremely knowledgable staff, this restaurant deserves all of the praise it gets as a true hidden gem in Boston. Had a fantastic meal; everything was wonderful. My dinner companions are very knowledgeable about wine and the wine list is varied and deep. The food and presentation are beyond wonderful. I would go back for business or for a date experience. Ambiance was wonderful; atmosphere very relaxed but sophisticated; not pretentious at all. The owner came over and spoke with us and he is a great person.

Try this restaurant if you have not already. Fabulous find. Will be back.

The usual heaps of praise are not only in order but amplified every summer when owner/sommelier pulls gems from his cellar to offer at serious discounts. I'm talking 1950s-1970s Bordeaux bargains as well as aged-burgundy and a sometimes-overlooked but excellent selection of whites. Together with Chef Herbert's evolving and exquisite menu, there is no better place to eat well in Boston. Period.

Hats off to the chef and waitstaff for one of the best meals we have ever had. If "experiences" are in vogue, then this should be at the top of the gastronomic experience charts. We opted for the tasting menu, accompanies by our wiater's recommended pairings from the extensive and well-reputed wine list.

The tasting menu kicked off with a smoked salmon and caviar tartare accompanies by a two bite-size frisee salade on crisp toast. This was followed by a giant scallop topped with Maine lobster, a panko-dusted (lightly crusted) fish fillet with broccoli and white asparagus, and a lamb trio. The trio included a crunchy lamb bacon, lamb should fillets and a middle eastern inspired lamb couscous. Dessert included an airy chocolate sorbet topped with fresh berris and a goat cheescake topped with bing cherries in a savory syrup.

Our waiter and the staff were very attentive, pleasant and helpful.

Highly recommended.
