About Third Coast
The dining room is awash in hues of warm browns and cool grays with modern lighting, comfortable seating and that include two private dining areas and an impressive wine display. The magnificent panoramic views of the Texas Medical Center skyline, accentuated by the current floor-to-ceiling windows in space, will now be visible not only from the dining tables but from our new, open bar design.
The ‘Modern Houstonian’ menu, under the direction of award-winning executive chef Jon Buchanan, draws on the diverse flavors of Houston’s culinary melting pot. I arrived for dinner alone after a long day of meetings at the medical center. The restaurant was empty and I ordered a drink and my dinner right away. The drink came and I spent time answering emails. 25 minutes later my BLT sandwich had not arrived in spite of two visits by the waiter saying it would only be two more minutes. I got up to walk out of the restaurant as the manager was bringing me a salad (which I had not ordered) to placate me until my dinner arrived a few minutes later.
The manager's apologies were appropriate and they took the drink and food off my bill. I tipped the waiter because it wasn't his fault that the kitchen had messed up.
I feel this restaurant has enough transient business and are one of the few real restaurants in the area, thus they do not need to provide real service to gain repeat customers.
Dinner at this restaurant added significant stress to an already long day.
Outstanding restaurant in the Houston medical center area. Food was excellent and service was very good. Only challenge was finding it - it is on the top floor and you have to park in the garage to access it. Dining room was almost empty on a Saturday evening and we literally had two full time waiters taking wonderful care of us. Would highly recommend and don't be put off by the parking and access!
Visited the restaurant for Houston Restaurant Weeks. It was our first visit and I'm not that familiar with the Medical Center so was concerned parking would be a problem but it was easy. They validated the parking. Anyway, on to the food! It was delicious and perfect. The staff was super friendly and helpful. My friend and I also enjoyed our cocktails. A wonderful evening and we would love to return.
I went for a special occasion/ friend date on 08/08/17. It was during Houston Restauarant week, the the menu was fabulous. We each got a different appetizer, entree, and desert for $35. We additionally paired it with their wine selections. It was very enjoyable, affordable, and especially perfect for anyone in the med center or museum district. I will be going back!
Hostess was awesome, professional , courteous, and pleasant, my wife had a little break from MD Anderson cancer treatment and wanted something special but concerned about the dress code. We were assured of our dress upon arrival by the lovely hostess. We will be back!
This was my second visit since the re-opening and the Menu selection was still limited however better than the selection on my first visit in February. I had the BLT which was awesome I did not like the chips. the servers were friendly and the food was severed in a reasonable time.
It was disappointing to see that the service is still rather slow (almost 2 hours for lunch), which is not exactly surprising since the management has not changed, although the space has been completely remodeled and the concept, as well as the name, is different. The food is better, but the menu is rather simple. Apparently, the offerings rotate, since they had advertised Czech and German dishes, but there were none on the menu that we saw. I had an intriguing turkey and pastrami sandwich with chopped kim chee instead of sauerkraut on very flavorful rye toast. The French fries were rather mediocre (with eyes left in). The gumbo was good. All told, we were served by 3 male wait staff who seemed somewhat awkward, although they should have had time to get used to the setup. There is a definite need for such a restaurant in the medical center for professional guests and high-end conferences (a bit expensive at $30 per guest for lunch). I wish the management/ownership would get serious about recognizing that that means faster and more efficient service.
I asked for tea and it was never brought to me. Later on I asked for a lemonade and the waiter ignored me again. I asked another guy that refilled my cup with water for a lemonade and he brought me an empty cup with lemons on top. Everybody that was with me laughed and my manager said, "you're having a hard time getting something to drink". It was embarrassing. Finally, when our waiter passed by our table and saw that we were laughing at the cup that was brought to me with lemons on top he realized that I asked for a lemonade and he "finally" brought me the lemonade.
Fabulous experience. We were warmly greeted. We were pleasantly pleased to find the tables spacious spacing and the comfortable wing chairs. Our server was wonderful. Attentive, but not intrusive. The food was delicious from the warm bread through the dessert.
I had the red snapper. It was delicious and perfectly cooked in green curry sauce. My husband chose the special filet mignon over spinach. It was also delicious.
The night was perfect.
We loved our trip to Third Coast! It was our first, and the occasion was my friend's birthday. I knew about the space and had been when it was Trebisio, so I knew the ambience would be lovely. The food lived up to the article in the Houston Chronicle and the service was impeccable. We kept yearning to hear a piano in the distance because it conveys that type of atmosphere. I hope that at some point they consider adding background music to the experience. Either way, I can't wait to return!
