We enjoyed the cozy patio and the excellent food. The menu is brief, leans mostly towards hamburgers, but we shared the smoked trout cakes and shaved brussels sprouts appetizers, which were both delicious, and then each had a smaller entree. It was a lovely dinner on a lovely evening.
We had a great experience here! They were able to seat 6 of us on their beautiful patio. I have no complaints on my meal or the appetizers. Delicious! Also a great value! And only a $10 corkage!
Such a great little neighborhood gem. Love having a restaurant with outdoor seating, walkable from our home.
My son and I were in SLC to go hiking and he found this restaurant and wanted to try it. The food was very good.
Decided to sit inside instead of outside. Turned out to be a mistake, The air conditioning had a difficult time keeping up and it was very warm. Our service was good and a little slow. We had to ask twice for our appetizer which took for than 15 minutes to get to us.
Other than two little bumps we really enjoyed our dinner and would recommenced this place to anyone visiting SLC.
We had a lovely meal and wonderful time visiting with friends. The menu is varied and interesting. The Brussels sprouts were a table favorite.
Rather disappointing. My meal was far from the price I paid. Most memorable was service and pierogis.
Our visit was Thursday 8/9 about 630pm. We sat outside, and it was pretty hot, but not uncomfortable. I
think if there were some fans installed in the trellis/gazebo structure that covered the outdoor seating it would have made it really nice and just about perfect. Just having some air moving around would have made all the difference, and probably would have kept the flies back just a bit.
Other than that, the meal was great, the selection of beer really creative, and the service from Ally exceptional. We really like this place and will absolutely be back. Just some friendly feedback from folks who get out frequently, have been around to many places outside of Salt Lake, and are very observant on things like this. We think feedback is important to an establishment that cares, and we know TreTav does.
Great place, worst service I have ever had. I am sorry to give a restaurant a bad review based on one server, but it was exceedingly bad. I have never been in a position where I questioned tipping. In the end, I did leave a tip, not overly generous. It is a great place, I will go back, but may request a different server.
The outside patio had so many flies we had to move inside. It was clear that they had no intention of doing anything about it. The server was nice and amenable, but very slow. We never had our water refilled or wine topped off.
We went to the Trestle Tavern as part of our 30th High School Reunion weekend. The outdoor dining space is so lovely and the service was attentive but not intrusive.
It is a bit hard to find as the entrance is covered with Ivy but would go back next time I am in Salt Lake.
I took my Employees of the Month out for a fun and relaxing dinner and Trestle Tavern hit the spot. The location is great, the outdoor seating was amazing and the food was outstanding. We all had a great time! I also love that they take reservations!
We've gone to this place ever since they opened a few years back, and to say it is a hit-and-miss experience is being generous.
Although reserved on OpenTable, the manager that evening tried to tell me that the new hostess overbooked when I called, and that there are no tables for us. She then corrected herself after we waited about 15 minutes. The patio where we sat was only about three-quarters occupied, and would remain so the entire time we were there, and the indoors was even less-populated, so I am wondering if the "overbooked" people were turned away, or simply didn't bother to show up. Not a good first impression, and not a good way to start the meal.
I was seated on a broken chair that I had to change out myself, because the place was obviously understaffed. They ran out of food menus, ran out of wine glasses (we were drinking out of tumblers), and the food, although usually quite good, was cooked to within an inch of its life, especially anything requiring deep-frying.
Perhaps the least impressive part was how our waiter recommended a half-magnum of hard cider to a member of our group without disclosing the price. Thirty dollars is excessive, and an unkind surprise to find on the bill. We should have done what we did last time when a different waiter (are they trained to do this?) tried to upsell us to a $48 bottle of beer after we'd had a couple glasses of wine. Good thing we asked, and will definitely do so in the future.
We like the neighborhood, and we like the ambiance, but we come to Trestle Tavern about once or twice a year to be reminded why we prefer the other places in 15th-and-15th more. This place is owned by the same folks he own Pago, but it certainly isn't run with the same care or attention to comfort or detail. They try to give the impression that they are hip and casual, but I find it to be more along the lines of bored and greedy.
We wish Betsy Burton would bring back Fresco. Never had these little issues with them.
Delicious food and great service!
Excellent food and ambiance. Knowledable server about beers and ciders. Service was a little slow.
We went to Trestle Tavern on a recent Saturday night with 2 young granddaughters and their parents, 6 of us in total. Amazingly, we made a Ressie on Open Table for that night, at the time we wanted to go, and the table was ready and perfect for us. We ordered a lamb burger, veggie burger, Philly cheese steak (I think they call this a chopped cheese), kids stew for one of the girls, regular hamburger. Everything was delicious, well-prepared and served on time. Servers were pleasant, helpful and not cloying like at some Utah places. We'd definitely go back for the casual yet upscale feel of the place. Highly recommended for well-behaved children.
Excellent food, great atmosphere, like sitting in a garden setting. Service was good, would definitely dine here again.
Hostess was awful
Service was slow with what seemed like only one server working.
There was another woman who seemed to be a server but she just stood outside chatting with a patron and not helping the one server who seemed to be struggling with his number of tables. Not a good place to navigate with kids (which we don’t normally do but for father’s day and at 5 pm figured it was worth a shot) We went early (5 pm) and they scolded our son for playing at an empty table around back while we waited the last 20 minutes for our check to come at the end of the meal.
Apps were good and the meal was unmemorable.
Would go for apps and a drink and skip the entree in the future.
I almost canceled my reservation after reading the reviews here, but Google reviews were good so went ahead. The experience wasn't bad, but not really very good.
Food was good but appetizers and main course arrived together - not sure if it was the placement of our table but the noise level was so loud I could not hear myself think let alone my wife's conversation. The door to the outside seating area closes with a loud bang and there seemed to be only 2 servers for way too many tables. Service suffered greatly especially taking into consideration the price and presentation. Had many pleasant and enjoyable dining experiences in SLC - Trestle Tavern was not one of them. Try HSL or Copper Onion and you won't be disappointed.
The food was great. Outdoor patio very pretty. The waitress knocked a glass of coke on our table and the glass shattered everywhere and two of us were covered in coke. She apologized but didn’t offer to pay for the drink or possible dry cleaning. A manager never came and apologized either. The service wasn’t great. We had to find silverware from an open table. We asked for an extra wine glass and it took a long time fir her to bring one. I understand accidents happen but at most restaurants they offer to pay for the drink or the manager comes and speaks with you.
The menu is small (which I appreciate). Fewer dishes seem to increase the quality of what is served. The patio seating is fantastic! I am not sure I would have enjoyed the meal as much indoors, which seemed crowded and certainly noisier. I suspect this is a place I will go to again BUT I will only go if I can sit outside.
Server (Georgie) was great—made good recommendations and was quick to fill glasses. Menu somewhat limited but food was delicious. Decent wine list—enjoyed the Spanish white with dinner.
As always good food and service. We have been to Trestle many times, but were disappointed with the menu options. The menu on their website had not been updated, so we were disappointed to not be able to order some of our favorite dishes. We did not enjoy the chopped salad as much as the beet or trout salads we had in the past.
The Horseradish Peiroggis dish was to die for! We also loved the Brussel Sprouts with mushrooms, but I was curious why Brussels are on the menu this time of year - not really the season. When I asked the server, he didn’t really seem to even be aware that they are not in season in late May, which made me question their commitment to a seasonal menu and local sourcing. Veggie burger was ok - pretty dry and boring. Bread options were not to my liking - only white. Lovely outdoor seating with a mix of sun and shade.
Good food, attentive staff, great wine selection, well decorated- A+
Trestle Tavern offers solid food and reasonable prices. All aspects of our meal was nicely presented and tasty. We will go back!
Got a burger and a salad, and both were very tasty and well-presented. Loved the fries. Sat indoors because the patio area was full ... the indoor atmosphere is quite pleasant and relaxing. I tried this restaurant two years ago, and really enjoyed the updated menu. The small plates looked especially interesting, which I plan to try on my next visit. My only complaint was the service was mediocre to bad--very inattentive and slow, especially at the beginning. Perhaps there were not enough servers that night? A note to management--our server had lots of tatoos on her arms (that didn't bother me), but all the nose piercings were rather unappetizing. I think I am old-fashioned about this particular trend, bu it's hard not to think about a nose ring in a bull.
Great little restaurant. Quaint and romantic. Great alcohol selection. Small menu, but I appreciated that they changed it up weekly.
We had a reservation and had to wait close to 10 minutes for the hostess to even greet us. It was clear the restaurant was understaffed, however the staff just kept using that as an excuse with customers. After we were seated, we sat there for at least 10 minutes without being greeted. We could overhear the waitress in our area being snippy with customers when they asked questions about menu items and overall was just not pleasant. Ultimately we were never greeted and left. We ended up dining next door - and so did two other groups of patrons we saw at Trestle at the same time.
We had a 7:00 reservation and when we got there there was no hostess at the front we had to wait 10 minutes for them to get a table ready. Then when we finally did get seated it took another 10 minutes to get a menu they only brought one glass of water because they ran out of clean glasses. The wait staff look dirty and disheveled. We were sitting there for over 20 minutes and nobody came to take our order. We finally got up and left and went next door to Mazza which had great service.
Nothing bad but nothing amazing either. Best thing was the beer selection.
Not the best foot forward for this group. Although the lamb burgers was great, my wife had the quinoa salad and it was very disappointing. I am sure that not much time went into planning that one. Also, the Hostess, not very excited about her job. It doesn't help that you are greeted by someone who obviously hates her job , but has to compensate for any shortfalls in her life with a multitude of face piercing. I did, as I always do, since I know the business very well, tipped my server a little more than 20% because it's a tough was to make a living and that he made a great effort to make our dinner as pleasant as he could. Also, one more note, check for freshness on your wines especially the opened bottles . The Rose' wine was very flat and oxidized . Just some helpful constructive criticisms. I want to see Trestle succeed. It would be a shame for such a great location and idea go to waste .
Saturday night and only two tables of people. Veggie burger was a bit lukewarm, and not much choice on the menu. Restaurant might do better by catering to the "farm to table" folks with really fresh greens and vegetables. Eastern European touch isn't our thing.
Once again, underwhelming. They used to have a good wine list with some interesting choices, now they have all the standard whites, Chardonnay...etc.
The service was mediocre and I had to remind the waiter to bring our bottle of wine. My lamb burger was under cooked, brown on the outside, raw in the middle. I had to send it back.
I want to love this place, because in the summer the outdoor seating is great.
ELTH has an amazing menu; why can't Trestle's menu be amazing? If the food was better, we would be on the porch at least once a week. For what they have, it's overpriced.
Also, they don't have great choices for gluten free or dairy free.
I keep trying to give them another chance, but I probably will not be going back.
Hated it. Didn’t enjoy the food. Very few options. Bad service.
Excellent food with very good service and it was an overall enjoyable experience.
We really liked the unique menu items. It’s nice to see menu items that aren’t available elsewhere!
The ambience is quaint, rustic and cozy. The food is average. I had the veggie burger and fries. My friend had the chopped salad. We both commented that we could make better versions of our lunches at home easily. I won’t go back unless I go with a group and the group chooses Trestle.
We had a good experience at Trestle but it’s not really a bar. This place is pretty small, especially in the winter, but it felt cozy and not overly crowded. The drinks are good and the food came out quickly. We live close and are happy to have a go-to place nearby.
