We love eating at Tres, and we appreciate the service that goes above and beyond!
Great food and great service. Atmosphere is very nice as well. Good selection of vegetarian dishes.
They messed up my order and by the time they remade my entree the other 2 guests had already finished their meals. Ordered Spanish rice on the side and it was completely lacking flavor. The margarita was mostly ice.
Four of us went on a Friday night so we expected it to see more people, but quiet evening was fine for us. Waiter was not familiar with several of the Tequila brands I inquired about, but not a big deal. Here are the deal breakers: 1) We were served near-frozen guacamole, 2) Tortillas for Tacos were rubbery and tasteless, 3) Salsas, beans, rice were insipid, 4) service rushed us on. Never again.
This is not a taqueria but a nice restaurant. It’s Mexican with a twist. We arrived early and were treated like royalty. Can’t say that will be your experience but it was ours.
No one is my party of four enjoyed their entrees. It was as if the restaurant tried to get too fancy with the cuisine. I chalk it up to our tastes. The margaritas seemed off as well. It’s too bad. Other parties seemed to be enjoying their food. Must have been just us.
We loved the queso fundido which is like one of their signature plates and it’s served in a round skillet. We also tried a new dish, Chile Colorado (braised pork shoulder over polenta with colorado sauce)- it was deliciously flavorful. And we tried the caulorini which is a hybrid of cauliflower and brócoli, with a cilantro sauce, which was so tasty. We ended with the berries bread pudding served with a scoop of mocha chocolate. The portion was so measured, it was so perfect as a treat and didn’t leave us feeling stuffed, instead very satisfied.
Our server Moises was great & attentive to our needs. Since it’s our first time at Tres, our server helped us with the menu & made excellent recommendations. We enjoyed our appetizers, entrees & desserts. We’re definitely coming back to this establishment!
Overall there isn't anything special good or bad. We went there before the warriors game. Reservations desk lady was very nice and considerate. Waiter staff was very pleasant but seemed a little unorganized with different people waiting on us. Food was ok but absolutely nothing memorable except the fresh guacamole...
Taco Tuesday was a perfect dinner before seeing Santana at Chase.
The restaurant ran out of guacamole, not sure how that can happen. The wine selection was awful and dismal. Our table was in an odd place, practically right next to a table of four so we had no privacy and the other side of the table seemed to be in everyone's way because it kept being bumped by people and servers going back and forth. Our meal took forever but did get an update from the server saying our order got stuck behind a large private party which seemed to be a pretty lame excuse, we were only two people. One we got our meal, I ordered the enchiladas...it tasted horrible. I didn't even eat more than 2-3 bites and left it. Server didn't even ask if something was wrong. Awful experience from start to finish. Never going back.
Amazing place. Lots of fun!
Food was very good.. Didn’t tell us Happy Hour was only when events at the ball park were happening.. Disappointing.
All else was good.
Great food and quality
Great service and great food!
Although our server was extremely gracious, it was obvious that Tres understaffed that day, especially given that it was Closing day for the Giants. Food was tasty.
Great place for a big group family dinner, even on a weekend night. Friendly thoughtful service. Great tasting foods. Lots of options for food sensitivities.
Sooooooooooooo good. Yum. Delicious every visit. Keep coming back. Great mezcal flights too
Great food and ambiance!!
Nice place. The food is amazing.
The people are very friendly.
We had nice dîner here
I recommend it a 100%
Came back for a second time within a week. Great vegan options, food was delicious!
Spacious dining room great for relaxed conversation and lingering over chips and/or drinks. Quality dishes. Priced for the neighborhood.
Not the first time but it was a disaster;
- person came in 2 minutes w/o menus (we ordered guac so worked out)
- then showed up in 33 minutes to take order
- by 1:05 after going to Tres, we were not served
Most folks did not finish their meal and we had to box one.
The food was too pricey for Mexican food. Our waiter, Eli was the best part of our experience. He was very kind and helpful.
Tres was a pleasant meal, but we won’t be rushing back. When we arrived, the hostess was nowhere to be found. When she showed up, she was not in a good mood and not trying to hide it. As soon as we were seated, a friendly waiter offered us chips, salsa, and guacamole. But when we opened the menu, we realized that they weren’t complementary and actually cost $16 (!). The food was well-made but generally overpriced. I enjoyed the meal, but Tres gave me enough reasons to try somewhere else next time.
The chips & red, & green salsa, and the black beans were great. They serve the salsas & beans in the tiniest serving dishes -probably 4 tablespoons max -so be prepared to constantly ask for refills. Stupid, and annoying. Lots of margarita choices, but the menu explains nothing about each. We both hated our choices. Had to ask for water refills. Slow service. I had chicken tacos, and they were good, but didn’t blow my socks off. My dining companion ordered the enchiladas, and they were beautifully presented, and he did enjoy them. Honestly, probably won’t go back any time soon.
Seated promptly and server came by promptly— only to tell us he was really busy but he’d get back to us. It appeared he’d had 3 tables seated one right after the other which would not be his fault, however the only time we could ever catch him was if he was doing something at one of the other tables. We received chips, salsa and guacamole promptly but the bowl of chips was 90% crumbs that appeared to have come from the bottom of the bag. Pieces way too small to ever use for dip. And only at check time did we learn that the guacamole was $11, on top of another 7 or 8 for 1/4 cup each of 3 so-so salsas. Food arrived in reasonable time. Partner’s chile relleno was hot, my tacos al pastor were literally COLD. And so greasy I ended up just eating the few pieces of meat and leaving the greasy tortillas. Server never checked back until we asked if we wanted dessert, then promptly plopped the check down when we said no. Never removed the stack of app plates and bowl nor my greasy dinner plate. Overheard the table next door demanding something be taken off the bill because it was inedible. Honestly, this is the LAST place I’d ever think of dining again in China Basin Area and could never recommend it. What a disappointment.
Food good but service terrible. I had to call the restaurant from my table to get our check. Would’ve loved a second Margarita but never saw a single server again after our food was served.
The food was incredible! The 3 salsas were soooo good, too! I can't wait to go back and try something else!
The chef makes meatless meatballs. They’re delicious with the added sauce, garnished with pickled red onions. We also love the chille relleno dish - it’s just the right amount of chile, cheese and sauce. Also, they serve one of the best bottled seltzer waters, Topo Chico, to top off your mail with a refreshing drink. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. The staff is always friendly and attentive.
Great fish tacos. Pretty much order them every time.
We've been to Tres in the past for years. This time, the waiter who helped us was misogynistic to my girlfriends, ignoring their requests and only listening to me. He never brought any items requested by them after the initial order, after having a long conversation on the subject matter, neglected to tell the kitchen about a food allergy that one of them had, and his manager seemed rather indifferent to our concerns.
The food still tastes great. I would order food at the bar and avoid table service. Personally, I'd love to take the kitchen staff and take them to another place with better frontline staff, their food deserves better.
Guacamole - perfectly creamy and right amount of lime and salt - well done!
Enchiladas (chicken tinga) - definitely enough for two. Mole was excellent but felt like I needed a bit more to moisten the dry tortilla.
I would recommend Tres SF for the food. Food was really good. The service was very bad. The server stopped only twice at our table. We were pretty much helped by the runner. I wanted to have a great experience. I went to celebrate my birthday with my family, but the service kind of ruined it.
Nobody informed, told us that guacamole that was immediately brought to our table would cost us $11.00 - just not fair.
Our experience was somewhat limited - we came to the restaurant around 11:30AM, so it was empty, it was quiet.
Nice ambience, a great drinks menu and delicious dishes. The service is always friendly and thoughtful! Love this colorful space. Perfect for a fun date or a group.
I went for a work team lunch outing. Tres is in a short walking distance from us. When we arrived everyone was really nice. The food was delicious, I had the fish tacos which I totally recommend.
Great loacation, near the ball park. Food was excellent and the service outstanding!
We got to Tres - SF a bit earlier than our reservation, and the hostess suggested we wait in the bar. We had wonderful drinks there and finally our table was ready. Service was excellent! The mahi-mahi fish tacos are the best. The enchilada was huge and should have been spilt as there were two. Tres - SF is a great place to meet up with friends before or after a Giants game. Look forward to returning.
